I'm so excited, the new series starts next week Grin. Link

Paul does say 'I don't like it!' quite alot. If he came round here and said that about something I'd baked for him, there's every possibility he'd end up wearing it.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 18/09/2012 21:41

Did we get a glimpse of Brendan's boyfriend at the beginning?

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 18/09/2012 21:51

The mystery man with the dog?

Bilbobagginstummy · 18/09/2012 21:52

I was laughing so much at the bit where Cathryn was bewailing the bits on her dough: "but I can't feed Paul & Mary green carpet!!". Classic. Best line of the series (so far).

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 18/09/2012 21:58

Yes!

Mary was properly flirting with him as well!

dementedma · 18/09/2012 22:01

DS thinks Mary fancies Brendan. DB tweeted that Brendan is the queen of puddings!

jammic · 18/09/2012 22:12

I feel disappointed. What an anti-climax!

LetUsPrey · 18/09/2012 23:48

Phew! James lives to bake another day. He really needs to pull his finger out, or is that John - boom boom, and get some brilliant bakes in. I can't cope with seeing his little face all teary and upset. Although that would present an opportunity to comfort him I suppose ...

Don't mind that Brendan got star baker. I think he deserved it.

I thought Mary and Paul were going to start duelling with rolling pins at one point!

southerlygale · 18/09/2012 23:57

Phew that was a close one for James. He had his lucky jumper on and survived though.

WingDefence · 19/09/2012 10:23

Talking of James, here is his blog and a lovely behind-the-scenes article about those jumpers!

There's another thread on here about whether Cathryn is a MNer and someone has linked to a lot of the current contestants' blogs.

Orenishii · 19/09/2012 18:26

I thought Cathryn really showed another side of herself this week, and it wasn't hugely pleasant! The first bake - the suet puddings I think? - Paul didn't like hers and she said very petulantly and incredulously: you don't like these either?!

Then she gave him daggers, with her head down and eyes up, so it kind of made her look a bit weird, all the while that Mary was talking to her! Re-watch it, check it out! It might have been just filmed/edited weirdly but it really made the whole disingenuous "Oh I'm just no good - oh I am good? Yay!" schtick appear very false.

expatinscotland · 19/09/2012 18:27

Cathryn's a smug, simpering mare. Her little modesty act is getting old.

WipsGlitter · 19/09/2012 20:00

I find her really annoying plus shes all false modesty, but she doesn't need to be as she's not that good.

I luffs Brendan, he looks genuinely happy to be named star baker.

LetUsPrey · 19/09/2012 20:56

Just been having a look at James's blog and the GBBO drinking game. Don't think I'll be trying that on a week night. I'd be gone by about 15 minutes inGrin

I've just followed him on Twitter but have stepped away from the blog and Twitter because I've actually had a little drink tonight and don't want to make a complete muppet of myself and tweet him something stupidBlush

Thought the "evils" that Cathryn shot Paul were hilarious!

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 19/09/2012 21:52

If it was the Great British EvilEyes Off, they could have just sent everyone else home last night. I was scared

LetUsPrey · 19/09/2012 22:20

Apologies if someone's already linked to this, but actual hyperventilating and crying with laughter, and I'm only two paragraphs in on the blog for the first episode

MinnieBar · 19/09/2012 23:30

Oh now I'll definitely be going 'sta-sta-sta-star baker' to the tune of Boney M next week?

TwoIfBySea · 19/09/2012 23:49

LetUsPrey that is absolutely genius, I am going to giggle for days over the sentence about "Sarah-Jane's diseased beef curtain" but of course they mean her beef wellington from last show, what else?

BartletForTeamGB · 20/09/2012 14:19

Letuspray, thank you so much for that!

LetUsPrey · 20/09/2012 19:35

All credit is due to the poster who linked to it last year for the blogs Monk Seal does for Strictly Come Dancing, but you're welcomeGrin

expatinscotland · 20/09/2012 20:33

I can't believe so many people have fallen for Cathryn's scared-mouse-feel-sorry-for-me-false-modesty-BS-act.

She is the most irritating voice in the world and is fake as plastic.

GreenEggsAndNichts · 20/09/2012 20:45

expat that is precisely how I feel about her. Incredibly fake, lots of obvious lip biting ohmygosh I'm so worried about my perfect-looking cake not being perfect.

You can tell she actually thinks she's done a decent job because when they do say oh actually, this isn't very nice, she immediately looks defensive. Not resigned, because she was expecting it, but surprised, defensive and a bit irritated.

And this week, when she finally had a proper reason to worry (dumping the pastry on the floor) we didn't see a single lip bite. She had a fairly calm face, with a bit of genuine worry behind it.

Yes I'm overthinking this but I don't care. Grin I don't get the love for her. I only even slightly changed my mind about her this week with her response to Sarah Jane's wittering on about how she was going to blame her for the pastry mishap.

expatinscotland · 20/09/2012 20:49

She's full of it and that little girl voice is beyond annoying.

Really like Danny, and John, though he was pretty foolish to put his hand into a Magimix.

James, too.

hiviolet · 21/09/2012 11:15

I'm actually warming to Cathryn, although the "little me" thing still grates.

Orenishii · 21/09/2012 11:46

I'm warming to her now she's let the perfect mask slip and there's potentially an Evil Cathryn underneath Grin
