Mad Men: how much does Megan know?

So, last episode showed that Don has told her about being married to Anna, so has he told her the rest? About actually being Dick Whitman? I suspect not, but surely he knows it's only a matter of time before Betty decides to drop the bombshell... What do other MM fans think?

Poor Joan. I felt so sorry for her. I felt Lane made it too hard for her to say no to. He didn't want the company finances looked at to pay her the ?50k (which she would not have said yes to anyway) and told her to go for partnership to secure her and Kevin's future. And then she went home and her mother was bugging her and she was frustrated. I think she saw it as a way to secure her future but what a tough choice for her. I think there will be consequences for her in the firm.

gorblimey · 31/05/2012 10:25

I think this series of Mad Men has completely lost the plot. Terrible, no character development and I AM SICK OF MEGAN

Bored now.

Nancy66 · 31/05/2012 10:30

gorblimey - do you think so? I'm really enjoying it.

I think the development of Megan and their marriage is interesting - he thought he was marrying some Pollyanna figure and she's turning into a feisty, independent handful.

gorblimey · 31/05/2012 10:31

I think it is really crap. NONE of the characters have developed at all. Joan would NEVER have done that and they would never have asked her to.

Who gave up their shares so that Joan could have her 5%?

Megan is just a plot device to show what an old hasbeen Don Draper is now.

Cabbageflowers · 31/05/2012 11:36

Yes, I agree with whoever said it was the best episode so far. But I have been a little disappointed in some of the earlier episodes, compared to earlier series.

I think only Joan would have considered such a proposal. I did wonder how the five percent shares were given to Joan without Don being made aware..

YouGoonie · 31/05/2012 12:06

I think this was the best episode of the series and I have enjoyed the episodes but got to agree I've been a bit underwhelmed with the series so far.
I really don't like Megan and her strange mouth and want more Betty and definitely more Roger.
I can't decide if it's because they've moved on so far timewise from previous series that I'm underwhelmed.
Also when did Peggy start dressing so manly?

YouGoonie · 31/05/2012 12:11

Ooh just thought Maybe Joan will come out on top in the end. Don's turning into a hasbeen, Bert Cooper can't have long left, Lane is stealing, Pete has surely got to have some comeuppance for being a bit creepy and Roger has his heart problems.
When they end the whole series in 2011 or whenever, Joan will 80 odd and maybe really successful/rich?

BrightnessFalls · 31/05/2012 19:39

I only think its got a couple of seasons left in it.

CeliaFate · 01/06/2012 14:34

I think that episode showed just how well crafted the whole series is. A slow burner. Joan was made to believe that all the partners were in agreement to her sleeping with the Jag man, Pete left out the part where Bert said she didn't have to do it and Don was vehemently against it.
How poignant was it when we saw the scene again when Don went to Joan's apartment? Sad
Very surprised at Roger not asking her about it, but his role in the firm has been down played while slimy Pete is on the up.

I thought the end scene between Don and Peggy was lovely - the lingering kiss on her hand spoke volumes.

JosephineCD · 01/06/2012 14:46

I looked up how much the $50,000 that Joan was offered would be worth in today's money, about $350,000. I can't say I wouldn't have been tempted tbh, particualary as a single mother in those times. The bloke was a creep though.

JosephineCD · 01/06/2012 14:48

Oh and Peggy has gone from earning less than $1800 a year in the first episode to now earning $19,000 a year, in 7 years of story time. Pretty good going I'd say. Wonder how much she was earning at SCDP?

BrightnessFalls · 01/06/2012 19:35

Jon Hamm is on Graham Norton tonight Smile

TheNightWatch · 02/06/2012 01:43

I really want Betty back. It was a good episode but not the best. I would've thought silver fox would've had more to say on the subject. I will miss Peggy and I don't think Joan's ride is going to be straight forward.

Pitmountainpony · 04/06/2012 06:51

The girl who plays the little girl was at a cast evenig I went to out here ( i am in the US)and she was the most self possessed 12 year old I have ever heard speak.....utterly bright and endearing.
It was really interesting how much all the writing team research the history if each year the series is set......so I guess the Jewish angle must be pertinent to the year it is set.
I love the way all the characters have developed this season.......like poor laine and the power shift for don with a woman he is truly in love with.
The women represent such different types of women from that age just before feminism affected what became possible for women.

Pitmountainpony · 04/06/2012 06:55

Brightness. The creator did indeed say they plan to do 2 more seasons. Apparently 7 seasons is the magic number for a hit show....the writer..Weiner also wrote lots of the sopranoes.....7 seasons on that one too.
Outing myself as a madmen geek here. I do love it.

MrsBovary · 04/06/2012 22:19

I want Betty to return too, again only brief appearance in yesterday's episode.

Poor Laine indeed.

Last night's episode was particularly poignant one. Will wait to see what others thought.

SootySweepandSue · 06/06/2012 07:49

Don't normally post in tv, but just had to say I am in awe of Mad Men. Last 2 episodes have been bloody brilliant! Only thing on tv for me. Any recommendations on shows just as good?

YouGoonie · 06/06/2012 11:04

Last night's episode was so sad. What's up with Don though just generally? He's acting a bit strange Confused
Sooty- I haven't seen it myself but lots of people are banging on about Breaking Bad being as good as Mad Men.

Nancy66 · 06/06/2012 11:29

Last night's was superb as well.
Unfortunately I already knew what happened to Lane beause the episode aired in America a couple of days earlier and it was all over the internet

SootySweepandSue · 06/06/2012 12:17

I might look into Breaking Bad but I wasn't sure before as it was about mad scientists or something?! But at least that might be escapist...

Hanleyhigh · 06/06/2012 12:55

Fantastic episode.

Why was Don so unforgiving?

The acting is just phenomenal, all round.

Nancy66 · 06/06/2012 12:58

So unforgiving re. Lane ? I don't think he was - he told him that if he resigned he would keep the theft quiet.

SootySweepandSue · 06/06/2012 17:10

I seriously think I am in love with Don Draper. The character not the actor. I have decided my bump is a boy he will be a DonGrin. I am not normally affected by tv shows this way...

There is a good blog/site about it called Huffington Post with lots of musings on this and recent episodes. So gutted only 1 show left (and a whole summer of dire tv...).

TheNightWatch · 06/06/2012 17:54

Does anyone miss him being bad, though?

YouGoonie · 06/06/2012 17:58

I loved him bad. Roger is my favourite now.
