Am going to try to watch, but DS was in Intensive Care there last year, so I may find it too close to home. What a place.

I'm watching. Ds was 7 weeks prem and very poorly for a while (very healthy now though). Can't imagine anything worse than what these families have to go through.

WithACherryOnTop · 08/05/2012 21:08

I'm watching too, though I didn't know it was on until a few minutes ago. I watched the first series and was amazed by the children, parents and staff. It was difficult viewing, but I'm glad I watched it,if only to get to 'know' the children. I still think about them at times.

I hope your ds is better now,Minx.

frankie76 · 08/05/2012 21:12

It's sad and amazing at the same time already!

FriskyMare · 08/05/2012 21:15

I can remember watching Childrens Hospital years ago when dd was a baby, wondering how on earth those parents coped. DD was then diagnosed with leukaemia and we became those parents. Brings back some awful memories but we were lucky.

VikingVagine · 08/05/2012 21:15

It must be awful for the parents. Not knowing why the tumor was caused must make you question everything you've ever done with your child.

WithACherryOnTop · 08/05/2012 21:16

I can't imagine getting that news. Horrific doesn't begin to cover it.

difficultpickle · 08/05/2012 21:18

Awful but I wonder what the alternative treatment would be for her. Seems to be such an aggressive tumour that there isn't much choice of treatment. Sad

VikingVagine · 08/05/2012 21:19

Oh god what an awful situation to be in, I'm tearing up watching this. Sad

FeathersMcGraw · 08/05/2012 21:24

They have a rock and hard place situation. Horrible decision to have to make, hope she is one of the lucky ones :(

difficultpickle · 08/05/2012 21:31

I suppose that is doctor-speak for no chance of recovery for that little girl. So sad.

VikingVagine · 08/05/2012 21:33

Sad Sad Sad

thestringcheesemassacre · 08/05/2012 21:34

oh fuck, this is so sad.

difficultpickle · 08/05/2012 21:35

It's so hard to watch but I can't imagine being faced with the decisions those poor parents have to make.

WithACherryOnTop · 08/05/2012 21:38

I feel for the doctors too. They looked sickened by the news, not that their pain is a tenth of the parents, but giving that news to the parents must be so difficult.

It's so bloody unfair, for Lula, who's barely started her life, and her parents who have to lose their incredible little girl. Cruel is too weak a word.

And having to put one's child through such awful, destructive treatment, even with the hope of a cure,no one should have to do that, but so many people do.

FeathersMcGraw · 08/05/2012 21:38

She is being so brave...

sairygamp · 08/05/2012 21:39

taping it to watch at ten :( Don't know if I can ...also lots of hospital history.

WithACherryOnTop · 08/05/2012 21:43

I'm dreading the end of this, when the screen usually goes black,on programmes such as this.Sad

difficultpickle · 08/05/2012 21:50

He's spot on.

Meglet · 08/05/2012 21:55

I'm usually hard as nails but it's hard to watch, but I will.

Sad
olivo · 08/05/2012 21:56

Am sobbing my way through this...... Off to give my Dds a special hug

Luna has a website.

Last treatment update was on Feb 26th.
'Luna and her family have been talking to Dr's in the US who have agreed that it is unsafe to put her back onto the Anteneoplaston therapy because her tumour is so close to her brain stem and the treatment causes the tumour to swell before it breaks down. They have however asked to put her on a treatment called Gene Targeted Therapy. Basically they take a sample of tumour and in a lab test it's genetics and test which drugs will work. They then give those drugs to Luna. We are very excited to be offered another drug because we knew that the Anteneoplaston's would kill her if we continued on them but we are desperate to cure her. The Gene Targeted Therapy is having great success in adults. We pray it will do the same for Luna. We now need to continue to fundraise so we can start this treatment and carry on with it. Sounds impossible but we can't give up hope. Any fundraising ideas please email us via the web site.'

This wasn't easy watching for us, but it's so important for people to see the incredible work that goes on at Gt Ormond St. Everyone, from the cleaners and catering staff to the top neurosurgeons, are the most lovely, caring people imaginable. The level of expertise is second to none.

And yes, DS is fine, thank you. He had a ruptured brain aneurysm last January, was in Int Care and then the neurolgy unit for a while. Full recovery, will be under GOS for a long time with scans and check ups.

wannaBe · 08/05/2012 22:17

was there any on-screen update at the end?

Lots of links on twitter which basically say that Burzynski is a quack out to take advantage of desperate parents. Sad

SharpObject · 08/05/2012 22:19

I've missed it Sad

Do you know if it will be repeated or on now as a + one for sky please?
