Am going to try to watch, but DS was in Intensive Care there last year, so I may find it too close to home. What a place.

did the baby die?

So very sad about Sebastian, to have come through the surgery but then be taken by infection. Sad

I loved the surgeons, the Irish one who operated on the baby saying "well, to be honest we can't be thinking about the lifestyles of the relatives fifteen years down the line." spot on.

notyummy · 16/05/2012 13:34

Absolutely amazing. So sad, but so inspirational. In awe of the skills of the medical teams and wishing strength to all the children and their families.

thestringcheesemassacre · 16/05/2012 13:44

Yes wannabe the poor baby died.
Awful.

ripsishere · 17/05/2012 13:03

I watched it and was grizzling at a lot of it. DD came downstairs and asked me why I was crying.
She sat and watched it. Apart from the bloody abdominal surgery she said she'd quite like to be a paediatrician.
It is a phenomenal place, I've a friend who did an anaesthetic rotation there. he found it frustrating in as much as yes, it's a fantastic hospital, there are other very good children's hospitals that don't get a look in.

Watched first time this week. Humbling and fascinating. We know of someone who works there, another who was a neonatal intensive care nurse and a relative's baby had life-saving surgery there, and am in awe of them all.

DS1 and I are doing Race For the Kids in June, a fundraiser for GOSH. (They saved his life last year.) Would anyone be interested in chucking a fiver at us? I could put my fundraising page link on here. Or is that a bit off? I don't want to be pushy. But GOSH is such a fantastic cause.

Well, I'm putting the link anyway - anybody watching the programme can see what a fantastic place it is, and those of us whose precious children have been saved there - enough said. www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fmy.raceforthekids.co.uk%2FpersonalPage.aspx%3FSID%3D357377%26langPref%3Den-CA&h=oAQEfEGw1

Just to point out that amazing care goes on across the country in other Children's Units too.

peggyblackett · 17/05/2012 22:49

Very true rip and londonchick. My dd1 was seen at Birmingham Children's Hospital by several wonderful paediatricians who were leaders in their field. Places like BCH often get overlooked sadly in terms of their profile, fundraising etc. GOSH is wonderful though, I was a patient there over 30 years ago and dd1 has also been an outpatient there. We are very lucky to have so many good regional paediatric centres in this country.

Is anyone else going to watch it? It's on in ten minutes, and tonight it's about heart transplants.

sailorsgal · 22/05/2012 21:05

I'm watching for as long as I can before it upsets me too much.

BebeAurelie · 22/05/2012 21:07

I'm watching it now, this is the first one I've seen. I think I'll be crying soon Sad

WithACherryOnTop · 22/05/2012 21:13

It's certainly not an easy programme to watch,but it's fascinating,and uplifting when there's a good outcome.Unfortunately there's often a sad one too.

BebeAurelie · 22/05/2012 21:21

The little girl called Holly looks just like my DD, similar age too. Its just breaking my heart Sad

zookeeper · 22/05/2012 21:29

this is very moving.

crashdoll · 22/05/2012 21:31

I felt my heart break a little hearing Sol asking what is more imporant cancer or a heart transplant.

sailorsgal · 22/05/2012 21:31

They are all so incredibly brave.

Moln · 22/05/2012 21:31

Oh my life this is very sad

Sol is such a brave boy

zookeeper · 22/05/2012 21:35

does this end sadly?

Sirzy · 22/05/2012 21:39

I hope watching this makes some more people sign up to the organ donor register.

So sad to watch.

WithACherryOnTop · 22/05/2012 21:41

Wonderful to hear about Holly. I hope she continues to do well.

Unfortunately I suspect there won't be a happy ending for everyone, but I hope I'm wrong.

BebeAurelie · 22/05/2012 21:43

Spolier alert seehere

sailorsgal · 22/05/2012 21:49
