Oi! I was on the other part 4 thread Angry

I don't think Anna is a proper ladies' maid as she does all 3 daughters. I think she is working her way up to it.

MarthasHarbour · 08/11/2011 13:05

where did Lavinia get her nightie from eh? twas lovely in a doylie crochet kind of vintage way

ratherbeinnorfolk · 08/11/2011 13:20

When I asked DH which character off DA he'd be....

Goes: "Lavinina." Shock

I go: I know you said she's fanciable. But I asked WHO YOU'D LIKE TO BE. Carson? Branson? Lord Fatty Bum Bum.

He: "Lavinia."

I'm freakin' out ladies, I'm freaking out.

sabrinathemiddleagedwitch · 08/11/2011 14:16

O'Brian is a proper ladies maid but Anna is a housemaid who does for the daughters. If Mary was going to a houseparty then she would probably take Anna as a ladies maid and she would wear a black frock and be called Smith but when Anna is at downton she still has to do housemaidy stuff like fires and waiting on table whereas O'Brian just potters about with her button box.

lovingthecoast · 08/11/2011 14:36

Was Vera/Catherine of Aregon the dark haired singer from the Commitments?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 08/11/2011 14:39

Finally got to the end of it. Hugely disappointing finale. I will watch the Xmas special with my fingers crossed that Isobel know it all dies.

crazyspaniel · 08/11/2011 14:52

Lady Mary and Surrichard will be married by the Christmas episode, won't they? Assuming that the Christmas episode is, in fact, set on Christmas day.

LadyHarrietDeSpook · 08/11/2011 15:19

I actually think that Matthew did really love LAV. And realised he'd fucked it up by having a spot of cold feet. They probably were well suited.

Then again it was Love At First Sight with Mary. SO maybe I'm wrong.

LadyHarrietDeSpook · 08/11/2011 15:29

The box set is on its way to me.

I think everyone should say their favourite moment from the series. I think mine might be when Fatty Bum Bum in full flight: Come everyone, come and see Matthew's willie is back in action.

Fiderer · 08/11/2011 15:51

LadyHarriet - did your dh give any reasons for wanting to be Lavinia? Does he hanker after a lovely doily crotchet vintage nightie? That's sort his Christmas present at least.

Favourite part - must think. I saw a lot on mumble online all at once so without the necessary DA analysis and mulling and musing here.

Cannot decide about M & M & did he love Lavinia. Am quite pleased about that because I shall have a lot of fun watching it all again.

HermanMumster · 08/11/2011 16:00

Lady Harriet, maybe it's because she'd dead and has therefore ESCAPED.

LadyHarrietDeSpook · 08/11/2011 17:49

what an ace idea, a doily nightie.

It wasn't even sodding ME he said he wanted to see in it. Shock Shock

What if DH and I fancy the same bloke?

he's also obsessed by Patmore although I THINK NOT sexually.

Fiderer · 08/11/2011 17:55

Patmore's possibly a soft, comfy, scented with cake/homemade soup/freshly- baked bread safely aproned in the warmth of the Servants' Hall obsession.

ThePsychicSatsuma · 08/11/2011 20:02

my fave line, any one of Mary's withering put downs to poor old Edith.

most of Violet's lines too. Don't be downhearted; it's so middle class

We can make something of him...he's political...a writer, I can hitch him to the

OP posts:
ThePsychicSatsuma · 08/11/2011 20:03

ThePsychicSatsuma · 08/11/2011 20:06

You've all moved!

Yes, Anna sometimes wears the same patterned dress as the other housemaids, whereas O'Brien (does she have a first name btw?) is always in black.

Animation · 08/11/2011 21:01

Yes, why does O'Brien have to be called by her surname - even Cora says that. Anna always gets called Anna.

Bossybritches22 · 08/11/2011 21:20

All of the Dowagers one-liners are my favs.

Here are some

? Cora: "I hope I don't hear sounds of a disagreement."
Lady Grantham: "Is that what they call discussion in New York?"

After Pamuks untimely demise .....

? "Last night! He looked so well. Of course it would happen to a foreigner. No Englishman would dream of dying in someone else's house."

? "One can't go to pieces at the death of every foreigner. We'd all be in a constant state of collapse whenever we opened a newspaper."

Cora: "I hate to go behind Robert's back."
Lady Grantham: "That is a scruple no successful wife can afford

re Mary's future

Cora: "I might send her over to visit my aunt. She could get to know New York."
Lady Grantham: "Oh, I don't think things are quite that desperate."
