I still need to talk about it.

OP posts:
Georgimama · 09/11/2011 15:09

Yes I expected that food to be poisoned tbh. The camera lingered on the tray Thomas brought him - didn't Mary say I wouldn't eat that if I were you. I think she was only half joking.

Fiderer · 09/11/2011 15:50

I didn't get that re Mary and the food.

I did wonder why Thomas left it out of reach of Carson where the poor soul couldn't reach it. Is that PA behaviour in the modern parlance?
"See I brought you food but you'll fall over trying to get to it"

www.metro.co.uk/tv/881062-nigel-havers-to-star-in-downton-abbey-christmas-special

Havers is I reckon going to snare Edith.

Curious that Lady Sybil is still being put forward in this article as potentially available. Must be uno typo.

GO EDITH, though. I will be shouting with delight if she gets sorted once and for all.

NorfolkNChance · 09/11/2011 17:57

Edith needs a good seeing to and Havers is the man to do it I reckon

CheerfulYank · 09/11/2011 18:23

Ooooo! I love the idea of Edith getting some action.

sabrinathemiddleagedwitch · 09/11/2011 18:29

I'll eat my hat if Pickle isn't dead by Christmas.

Bossybritches22 · 09/11/2011 18:30

If you watch Mathews face in that scene with Violet & The Chair he is clearly struggling to keep a straight face, the mouth is twitching at the corners!!

SoupDragon · 09/11/2011 18:31

Maybe Pickles gets in a pickle leaving Sybil cast aside.

CheerfulYank · 09/11/2011 19:02

NO Sabrina ! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

sabrinathemiddleagedwitch · 09/11/2011 19:10

Don't worry CheerfulYank he will die doing something noble and worthy and all the naysayers who thought their love doomed will sob over the corpse and say how they misjudged him. It will be a very pretty scene. Sybil can then go on to marry a handsome young heir who admires her spirit and she can use her cash to do worthy deeds and discover a cure for something, diphtheria possibly.

CheerfulYank · 09/11/2011 20:42

No no no! He's going to live well into his 90's and he and Sybil will be devoted to each other until his last breath.

And he will become a famous journalist and she will be a wonderful nurse and I won't hear otherwise.

33goingon64 · 09/11/2011 21:19

Favourite part of series 2: Mary, when asked by Sir R if she is still in love with Matthew, said 'do you think I would be interested in someone who spurned me for someone else?'. Great line.

Bates and Anna sex scene - the duvet was all squashed down between them. After bonking, surely you cuddle up, you don't pat down the duvet between you just in case you accidentally touch?

fruitstick · 09/11/2011 21:26

I predict it's all going to get a bit Mitford sisters.

One married the Duke of Devonshire
One ran off to American to become a Communist (actually she ended up the best one)
One married a fascist (Oswald Mosely)
and one went to Germany to hang out with Hitler.
and Nancy, of course.

I'm hoping Edith is going to turn out to be Duchess of Devonshire, not a Nazi Grin

Georgimama · 09/11/2011 21:29

Yes, DH said this a few weeks ago. Sybil is clearly going to be a Commie, Sir R is likely to support the blackshirts when they turn up.

I've met the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire. She admired DS and was generally lovely.

fruitstick · 09/11/2011 21:38

Georgimama, I bow down before you. Envy

Georgimama · 09/11/2011 21:41

It was at church. If I say she was at said service with the Prince of Wales, you won't believe me, but it's true. I took DS out to feed him as he was getting mithery (this is about four years ago) and at the end of the service I was still sat in the church porch, just finished BFing. PoW and Duchess came out first (no doubt congregation had stood respectfully while they filed out first) and she stopped for a coo. Charlie Boy I had met before so I wasn't impressed, oh no.

MarthasHarbour · 09/11/2011 22:11

georgimama Shock you are truly a DA character, was the Dowager Duchess as fabulous as Maggie Smith?

Cryptic question that only fans of this other show will get. Does anyone else think 'Claude Seabrook the corrupt Home Secretary' when they think of Julian Fellowes?

Oh and Pickles has to live to 1921 - wasnt that when the original IRA formed?

CheerfulYank · 09/11/2011 23:28

I love ol' Picks, I really do. He is just angry at the status quo, and that's understandable in my book.

diddl · 10/11/2011 09:11

There you all are!!

So- will Sir R & Mary be married before the Christmas special-or in it?

Thought that Nigel Havers was in it as an interest for Rosamund?

Perhaps (hopefully) series 3 will move away from M&M.

Afterall, shouldn´t he be back working as a lawyer & she living elsewhere with Sir R?

Perhaps it will be focussed on Edith looking for the burned man & is he or isn´t he?

ppeatfruit · 10/11/2011 09:33

Hi again Cheerful Smile I agree about Picks. Did anyone think that Anna was dressed in a housekeeper's uniform (not prisoner's) still waiting outside D.A. for her Bates?

Animation · 10/11/2011 09:43

"Afterall, shouldn´t he be back working as a lawyer & she living elsewhere with Sir R?"

Yes - I don't understand why Matthew has been living at Downton all this time with his mum. Didn't they have their own place?

diddl · 10/11/2011 10:31

Think that in series 1 he said he was a partner(?) in a firm in Ripon & that w/ends would be enough for him to "learn the ropes".

Maybe he changed his mind & is happy to be a "kept man" until he takes over?Grin

NorfolkNChance · 10/11/2011 10:35

I think he's had a peek at Lord 6's medical records (no doubt left lying around by Clarkson) and is hoping the cholesterol will kill off 6 so he can become Earl.

Animation · 10/11/2011 10:40

"Maybe he changed his mind & is happy to be a "kept man" until he takes over?"

Who has to die then for him to take over - is it Cora and/or his Lordship?

I mean they're not exactly old are (40s/50s) - if they were to die of natual causes. He could have a long wait!!

diddl · 10/11/2011 10:49

Just Lord G has to die for him to take over.

I think maybe in series one he did seem to visit rather than live there.

For this season he´s either been away at war or in DA hospital, I guess.

I assume he would want to keep working rather than be supported by Lord G.

If Lord G has the longevity of his mother, Matthew won´t take over until retirement age!
