I've just seen a segment from the new series on The Culture Show, Brix and Lund are the only characters reprising their roles and there are less episodes than the first series, but according to Sofie Grabol it's on a higher level and more in depth! Cannot wait until next month!!!

Fun I'm not a fan of the beard either, although there was something appealing about him to start with. I'm all for the brooding brunettes this month. Xmas Wink

AmanitaMuscaria · 15/12/2011 18:13

Ok some random musings as I'm watching again, and looking more at the screen and less at the subtitles/ am free to keep rewinding. In E2 when Strange/Lund interview Jarnvig/Sogaard for the first time, there's a looooong and significant look between Strange and Sogaard.

Bilal does indeed look well shifty (which was obvious on first viewing too) when they start poking around Poulson's stuff. Not particularly at Strange though, imo.

AmanitaMuscaria · 15/12/2011 19:21

Jens says to Louise very significantly before he breaks out "I have messed up, so I have to put it right". What had he messed up??

About the gap between the first and second killings - it can't be that long, doesn't each episode correspond to a day in the investigation? Anne's murder happened on the night of day zero. We are coming up to day nine, and there have been five murders (possibly six if Monberg was pushed), that's not much of a gap between any of them.

I think Strange stole Perk's I.D. to carry out his mission. The PM and/or the Defence Minister are in on it too, which is how Strange knew it was time to murder Anne; he was sent on another mission, but this time in Denmark. Sorry Amanita Xmas Smile

teejwood · 15/12/2011 19:31

funtime jens will be fine when he has a shave and a shower
they should make sure we see that part of the plot, when everything is resolved and he gets cleaned up
Xmas Wink

shelinka · 15/12/2011 19:32

Jens says to Louise very significantly before he breaks out "I have messed up, so I have to put it right". What had he messed up??

He held the girl in the house, assuming that Perk wouldn't kill her, but he did.

teejwood · 15/12/2011 19:38

also - wtf is up with all the mirrors? i just went onto iplayer to figure out why i thought there was a 10 day gap between the first and second killings and there was that frame of Ruth, her face mirrored on the glass of the interrogation room. but it's not just there - it's a recurring theme throughout this series - eg jens having the conversation with jarnvig in the mirror of the ballroom.

are they saying that any of us could be this evil, if we were to hold a mirror up to ourselves when the chips are down? Xmas Confused

teejwood · 15/12/2011 19:45

aha - that's it! in ep 1, when strange is driving over to get lund for the first time, there is a report on the car radio that the memorial park killing was 10 days ago

teejwood · 15/12/2011 19:46

amanita don't worry about it - as you can see i come in here and ramble on to myself all the time. i do it for the sake of DP's sanity
Xmas Grin

teejwood · 15/12/2011 19:48

shelinka it's not just afghanistan, though, is it - terrible though that is? he also went loopy and held a nurse (louise?) hostage. so he has a lot of amends to make.

shelinka · 15/12/2011 19:55

Ten days is quite a long gap. At what point was the video of the first murder released? Wasn't the PM really anxious to get the anti-terror bill passed at this time? Maybe they thought that just one murder would do the job.

Mirrors often symbolise "the truth" in literature. Don't know what that means re. Ruth, but in Jens and Jarnvig's case I guess it means that they are both looking for/speaking the truth?

shelinka · 15/12/2011 19:57

teejwood you're right, I forgot about the nurse, I was thinking only of what he did/knew about in Afghanistan.

teejwood · 15/12/2011 20:01

yy shelinka - completely agree re the mirror motif - but the funny thing is, it's being used all the time, the whole way through the series. so now i feel like i have to watch the whole thing again to try and figure out the clues from the mirrors!

shelinka · 15/12/2011 20:13

A good enough reason to watch it again! I'm watching it on Iplayer (with a proxy server, I'm not in the UK) and the episodes get deleted automatically after six days :(

Also, I have to wait until Sunday to see it, I can only download it early on Sunday am.

crunchbag · 15/12/2011 20:52

I agree with it being Strange. He could have been on an undercover mission and went mad or awol and that is why the army/ministry is covering their tracks. They would lose support for their presence is Afghanistan otherwise.

So when he came rushing over to see Lund after the attack it wasn't out of concern but to make sure she hadn't recognised him, chilling twist.

Bilal has to be involved somehow too. Maybe he informed the high army guy that Raben's FIL was digging for information and helping Raben get away.

AmanitaMuscaria · 15/12/2011 21:03

Yes it was definitely 10 days between the murder and Lund being summoned - it was because they couldn't hold him any longer and didn't have enough to charge him.

I didn't take Jens' comment to be regarding what happened in Afganistan, rather something since.

These two points mean that I feel justified in discounting everything shelinka says on the subject of Strange's guilt. Xmas Hmm Xmas Grin

Actually the more I watch it the less sure I am about Strange, and also, bizarrely, the sweeter Sogaard seems. Xmas Hmm Xmas Shock

I was comforted upthread by other people loving the sound of Troels, and wanting to say it randomly - DP and I still love to say 'Troels' whenever anything Danish comes up, and also random Danish words or phrases that sound unexpectedly English; 'canna coom in?' when they want to come in, for instance. In this series we both fell about at a couple of (wildly inappropriate) points; when Jens walks into the church for the first time and the priest is subtitled as saying 'come back tomorrow' when he actually says 'coom-agin-i-morn', and particularly when Thomsen says 'fooked-oop dansk officir'. Xmas Blush For some reason we've been saying that and giggling for days since. Xmas Hmm

shelinka · 15/12/2011 21:06

Amanita, if it's not Strange, I'll eat my jumper!

AmanitaMuscaria · 15/12/2011 22:05
AmanitaMuscaria · 15/12/2011 22:32

Oh bloody hell, it's ever so sweet when Strange roars up and demands to know where Lund is after her brush with death, but then there's a loooooong pause outside the door where she's being debriefed... could it be that he's composing himself and hoping she didn't recognise that it was him she was chasing?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

wildstrawberryplace · 15/12/2011 23:24

or maybe Strange is involved somehow, undercover for Special Ops or whatever therefore explaining his absences and various other things, but not a killer. Thus he would still be conflicted with Lund because he's gone on about being honest and talking about stuff, but can't himself be on the level?

The thing about Strange is unlike the killer in TK1, who was creepy or odd or unlikeable from the start, I find myself really warming to him. I'll be gutted if it is him.

AmanitaMuscaria · 15/12/2011 23:36

*cemetery, even.

I know wild, but is that just to make it all the more devastating when we're betrayed by his guilt?

Xmas Grin I think I've overdosed on TKII. I feel more than slightly deranged now.

I've watched up to the bit when Strange-Lund had their 'moment' (I've watched all the political bits on X2 fast forward so I can re-read the subtitles but skim it, and scrutinise all the army/police bits for clues), and then the next scene when Sogaard comes in for questioning, Strange and Sogaard exchange another loooooooong look. There's definitely something going on there, which has to be connected to Strange's military stuff, surely? Xmas Sad

I realise that means I've watched six and a half hours (some of it on ff) of TKII today. Can I claim some sort of medal? Xmas Blush Xmas Grin

shelinka · 16/12/2011 05:50

I know wild, but is that just to make it all the more devastating when we're betrayed by his guilt?

Exactly!

peggyblackett · 16/12/2011 06:33

I am glad that I have mentally prepared myself for it being Strange - its going to be devastating for Lund .

redroof · 16/12/2011 08:27

I also noticed the long stares between Strange/Sogaard.
Also, when the dope smoker was being interviewed, did anyone think Strange (evily?) laughed inappropriately at Sogaard's supposed "punishments"? (Fire cracker, was it?)

teej I'd also wondered about the great use of mirrors and their possible significance. ( Tak Shelinka )

Right, tomorrow's the night :) My final answer is Strange (sorry AM and fellow Strange-lovers!)
