I've just seen a segment from the new series on The Culture Show, Brix and Lund are the only characters reprising their roles and there are less episodes than the first series, but according to Sofie Grabol it's on a higher level and more in depth! Cannot wait until next month!!!

OP posts:
redroof · 12/12/2011 20:51

Wouldn't SF be similar to the SAS, LePrune ? That is how I saw it, but am probably wrong!

I'm flummoxed at this point; maybe this is what Sveistrup et al were intending!
Raben was so certain Strange was 'Perk' when he first saw him.
Does anyone else believe Raben's story about the atrocities? Dragsholm supposedly had evidence of 'an officer'. I'm with Raben on this.

I'll be bitterly disappointed if this Holst was behind the killings, though I guess I'm expecting this series to have parallels with the first. (We were introduced to the killer at the beginning, and he remained in the limelight throughout)

DH has suspected Strange from the beginning. I guess Strange could be guilty...

I love Buch. I loved the drunken side, although it took me a while to realise he was actually speaking drunken English with a Danish accent!!
I loved the moment he rushed into the gents, peered underneath the door and carried out a conversation with Krabbe's undies. Brilliant!

swanker · 12/12/2011 21:28

I too like Buch! I have expected (from the first episode) for him to solve the case, as his character set-up was all about his analytical mind, and his tenacious personality...

Thanks for the info LePrune (pruni???) - I am wondering why Special Forces refuse to give any info out to the army or the police, and how (whether?) they can get away with it?

insicknessandinhealth · 13/12/2011 19:50

Sorry been lurking on this thread for a bit. I am loving this series! What I find amusing is the fact that any killer might somewhere have an actual photo of the group of people he is gradually murdering with crosses through their faces. I know it's a common murder plot device but isn't it a bit obvious to do that?! I wonder if real killers do this? I must say I have a very similar feeling to the first series in that I sort of follow what is going on but also have that slight feeling of it all going over my head a bit and needing to watch it all again on a box set to properly get my head around all the clues and links. There is something strange about Raben's father-in-law, but he seems less suspicious now that he has started his own investigations.

MavisGrind · 13/12/2011 21:59

Just caught up on the last two episodes and wish to contribute in an irrelevant way (again)

Anyone else, for a split second, when Buch was speaking English, think "Feck I've been watching this for so long, it's actually making sense to me now..?"

Just me then? Thought so..

aloiseb · 13/12/2011 23:19

welllllllll..... maybe not just you Mavis.....Xmas Blush..love Buch and his bouncing ball and his chocolate habit.

Re the rest of the plot.....Let it be noted that I am now totally confused. As redroof pointed out, it it would be odd for Raben to have set the explosives to kill Thomsen and then to shout at her not to get in the boat - but on the other hand, if he hadn't set them, how did he know anything was wrong with the boat anyway?

Maybe he's being manipulated by somebody in the shadows. I suspect FIL whatever his name is. He is evidently up to something - at the very least, splitting Louise from Raben and encouraging her to get it on with Sogaard. Yet Raben and They are certainly in cahoots at one level or another - witness the ballroom scene. [writes on whiteboard portentously]

I don't think it's Strange- no reason!

I also wonder whether somebody manipulated the ex Minister for Justice into his suicide. Properly, that ought to be a Special Branch (MI5-ish) thing to do...i can just see Harry Pearce justifying it. A genuine and successful politician wouldn't have enough of a conscience actually to top himself just from guilty knowledge...must to be more to it - ie murder /manipulation.

Did Raben escape again? (I wasn't well and was dozing a bit in the last episode.) I think I remember they were going to send him back to the crazy house for his own safety, but everybody else leaving for Afghanistan distracted me a bit. Think my family may have to fight me off the sofa next Saturday though. Xmas Grin

WowOoo · 14/12/2011 12:02

aloisb.......Let it be noted you are certainly not confused. Good summary of events and theories there.

If it is Strange, or anything to do with him I will eat a slug. I am convinced he's a good guy. Or have I been taken in by his charms?
Convinced Jens is mostly a good guy too.

Jens Raben sussed that there were explosives on the boat because he noticed that the cupboard where the explosives were was open. Or did I imagine that? It only clicked for him just before it was too late.

Lovely dh has deleted the episodes after drunkenly waffling throughout. He was getting his own back on me for asking to pause it for me to recap the previous week. Damn, don't want it to end.

redroof · 14/12/2011 15:05

"Jens Raben sussed that there were explosives on the boat because he noticed that the cupboard where the explosives were was open. Or did I imagine that?"
You didn't imagine that, WowOoo
aloiseb Raben being back in his hospital room was one of the final snippets at the end where the theme music starts. I do love those little scenes at the end....little things!

AmanitaMuscaria · 14/12/2011 17:42

Oooh I've only just found this thread and have read the whole thing! I was looking for company in which to swoon over the Strange/Lund almost kiss moment.

I'm such a dope - it hadn't occurred to me that Strange might be guilty of anything until the moment Raben calls him Perk. Then I come on here and find that you've all been suspicious of him from the start. Xmas Blush

I've really enjoyed the moments between Strange and Lund as you see the attraction develop. She's so hapless in her relationships with people that I'm really rooting for her to find someone as dysfunctional as she is! I went all weak at the knees (well I am ovulating...) when he almost kisses her, and then it really made me laugh when he pulled back and leaves her looking so surprised. Xmas Grin

I haven't got a clue whodunnit; I thought the FIL was up to his neck in it, but that seems increasingly unlikely now. Sogaard seems very sinister and dubious, and Bilal, as others have said, is always around, looking somewhat suspicious. Raben is appearing increasingly unhinged now - I'd much rather it was him that did it than Strange. I want Strange to be the good guy (incidentally, I took the 'I won't let it happen again' comment to mean he'd protect her), and I WANT MORE ROMANCE!

AmanitaMuscaria · 14/12/2011 17:43

Oh, and I've got a bit of a crush on Brix, too... Xmas Blush

shelinka · 14/12/2011 20:25

I'm sure that it's Strange. Evidence:

  1. He was in the army, in Afghanistan and he didn't mention it, when it is obviously relevant to the case.
  2. He has the tattoo.
  3. The killer didn't shoot Lund when he had the chance. He's a serial killer, but suddenly he spares the life of the policewoman who's determined to track him down? Only Strange has a reason to spare her life.
  4. He's never around when a body is discovered (having recently fled the scene).
  5. In Sweden, Lund questioned Thomsen alone, giving Strange time to rig the booby traps and stick all those logs in the middle of the road. When the t

when the three of them were in the car and were forced to stop because of the logs, Lund got out to investigate as he knew she would. Strange got out on the pretence of helping, but actually allowing Thomsen to escape and fall into his trap.

I think Strange is Perk and he killed the family in Afganist

moragbellingham · 14/12/2011 20:30

I don't think I'll be able to read anymore of this thread until after Saturday night's final episodes.
I'm blissfully confused and happy/want to keep it that way as I want to be startled and think "OOhhhhh, well I never" right up until the end.

No, no, no to Soogard, yes to Strange thoughGrin

shelinka · 14/12/2011 20:36

Sorry computer problems!
I think he killed the family in Afghanistan under orders from the Special Forces (hence the cover up) and is being helped by them now to continue the cover up. Note he was relocated to Brix' team, not hired/chosen by Brix.

shelinka · 14/12/2011 20:42

Oh, and Jens Peter Raben isn't mad, "they" just want him to think he is. He was kept in the institution for two years, and continually denied his freedom as it suits "them."

JPR correctly identified Perk, (who then tried to kill him whilst pretending to defend Lund).

redroof · 14/12/2011 21:20

I agree with your theories, Shelinka though didn't Raben tell Thomsen he set up the road block himself to allow her escape?

AmanitaMuscaria · 14/12/2011 21:27

No no no no no shelinka!

redroof · 14/12/2011 21:33

Guess who has declined an invite of free wining and dining on Sat evening?!
Xmas Blush

teejwood · 14/12/2011 23:15

hello all
no time to post and not much more to think due to rl

mavis you are not alone - like redroof and alouise i also sat there for a while before realising he was speaking english Xmas Grin

amanita welcome to the thread - at least you'll know where we are for the last eps and TKIII!

well strangely (arf) i can't seem to make a call this time around. my shortlist is now officially strange and sogaard - but i think hoodie guy is bilal, he's maybe following the killer or following the trail to see what is happening, maybe because he is scared that his own life is in danger. maybe he was the missing link - the person who fessed up to anne re the identity of perk?

he didn't kill lund - simply - because he is not the killer; he pointed the gun at her head to send her the message "don't follow me".

teejwood · 14/12/2011 23:16

btw - redroof just right too - vv inconsiderate of people not to realise the last eps of TKII are on and try and arrange social events Xmas Wink

teejwood · 14/12/2011 23:45

ok how's about this:

perhaps strange was perk

a) but sogaard didn't believe jens & his team
so when anne came sniffing around again it seemed like jens' team had broken the honour code sogaard holds so dear. they were pushing a (to him) false line (effectively accusing him of ignoring a call for help from a member of the danish army, in addition to the killing of the afghani family) that would only bring dishonour to the danish army and bring sogaard's time in charge of the camp, acting up while jarnvig was away - into disrepute. sogaard is punishing them all for this in his own special way - we know he has a sadstic streak.

bilal knows there was a call for help that was ignored. he suspects sogaard of the killings, he suspects he accessed the records on team aegir, he took the explosives etc, so has been following him to the crime scenes - but it is bilal rather than sogaard who nearly gets caught each time.

or b) alternatively - bilal knows that strange is perk. he looked so worried when strange and lund were checking out myg's dorm room/locker because he recognised strange. he is tracking strange where possible to see whether the trail will lead back to himself - the person who told anne the identity of perk in the first place? after all, strange has interrogated most of his victims to find out who knew what, who can lead the police to him - and then killed them. he didn't need to kill thomsen but couldn't take the chance of leaving her alive - it would be unfinished business in closing down jens' team and any risk of his Afghanistan exploits being exposed. so bilal is following the trail like lund and buch and is nearly getting caught as a suspected killer in the process.

i just can't see why such a meticulous killer would come back to the scene of the crime and risk getting caught not once but twice.

also - i keep wondering why the gap between anne being killed and myg being killed? then we have a flurry of deaths. the use of the same dog tags would indicate the same killer. maybe the killer was forced to act against anne because she was meeting with monberg. then he had to act against myg before myg left for afghanistan - and at that point there is a trickle down effect where he needs to bump the rest off before they figure out what has gone on.

see, i can't decide which one is more likely Xmas Confused

diddl · 15/12/2011 10:10

So if Strange is Perk-why was he back in Afghan under a false name?

Black Ops or something had gone wrong in his own life & he fancied killing a family?

I think that it is him-the fact that Special forces say he wasn´t there could be because they are covering or he was there as Perk.

How did he find out that the lawyer was looking into the case again?

teejwood · 15/12/2011 11:05

see - i've been thinking about this. what if perk was misheard because the real perk's death was playing on their minds? what if it was actually ulrich (strange)?

i had wondered if bilal was perk - but if jens thinks it's strange then bilal is possibly the wrong skin tone (to put it bluntly) to be perk and that reference was a red herring

teejwood · 15/12/2011 11:42

also i trust nothing coming from the army re special forces deployments!

FuntimeEggnogSplatteredWincies · 15/12/2011 17:45

I think that the brother has been crossing out the faces as he follows the case from the papers and is keeping track. He already has an interest in the case and getting a photo from his brother's things would be easy. I wonder if he's investigating for himself.

I can't believe that I thought Jens was a bit cute at the start. I'm not keen on the beardy fugitive look at all [shallow emoticon] Xmas Hmm.

AmanitaMuscaria · 15/12/2011 17:50

Lalalalalalala! Won't listen - it can't be Strange, it just bloody CAN'T! Xmas Sad

I am now watching every episode from the beginning to watch all the Strange-Lund bits again to try to pick up more of the subtleties of the plot. I can justify this because
a) I have a stinking cold and am feeling thoroughly rotten so need to lie on the sofa and concentrate on something.
b) I am hormonal so will allow myself to indulge my sad crushes on Strange, Lund and Brix feel a bit obsessive about something that takes my mind off what a shit week it's been.
c) DH is out on his work Xmas do, allowing me to watch wall to wall TKII all evening.

In episode 1, when Bilal comes to try to tell Louise's dad something while he's having his dinner (and gets rebuffed), he mentions something to do with a corporal, doesn't he? Could that be Myg Poulson?

I love the dynamic between uptight anal Plough, and ball-bouncing renegade Buch. Plough's such a fusspot.
