I am counting down to Sunday where they show Harry looking over the edge of the building at a nasty car crash below and Lucas legging it down the stairwell

Only 48 hours to go.

Nonsense indeed!

aloiseb · 01/10/2011 00:29

Smallprint, I am loving the idea of a Miranda style singalong finale with all the ghosts! (maybe the first time I woudl watch Comic relief.....)

In the article in last week's RT they did say the plot was a Greek tragedy. So that means the woman's got to be Ruth, doesn't it? - getting revenge for her lost husband and son. Women are always the dodgiest characters in Greek plots. Also she did tell Tariq to go home. Also he was trying to phone Harry to tell him, when he realised they were on to him....

BTW I didn't think Connie used her bra wire to kill Ben - whoever has a flexible bra wire? Confused. I thought it was a piece of cheese wire which she was keeping handy down her bra in case of rumblement.

Also BTW: Why can't I remember Ruth's son's death? I remember her having to watch her husband being shot but maybe my mind has blanked out the other as being just too horrific?

cornishpasty · 01/10/2011 06:03

You're right about Ruth's son not being killed. IIRC he wasn't her real son, just step son so I think he went back to whatever country they lived in, to live with his Dad's family.

notnowImreading · 01/10/2011 10:12

Has anyone noticed how much more beautiful Ruth is looking now than when she started (have been watching early series box sets where, I have to say, she looks pretty rough). How dies that happen? She's nearly ten years older and looks both younger and prettier. Gives me hope for the future Grin

thestringcheeseincident · 01/10/2011 13:21

do you think Ruth has had a visit to the botox fairy? She looks very smooth skinned.
I don't think I will like it if Ruth is the baddie. That will leave Harry with no-one. Boo.

BerylStreep · 01/10/2011 13:37

Ruth's step-son wasn't killed, but she was angry with Harry because he took a decision where he could have protected the boy, but didn't. Can't remember the ins & outs.

But faithful, reliable Ruth? If she's the baddie I will have lost faith in all humanity. Shock

thestringcheeseincident · 01/10/2011 20:40

Beryl - I like your drama. Lost all faith in humanity. Grin

33goingon64 · 02/10/2011 20:00

Very impressed by Dilys' memory of all the deaths. Sad thing is I remember them all. My general feeling about Spooks is that it could have been written by students of TV drama: it's implausible, wooden, repetitive... And I bloody love it. Something about it makes me feel safe so I don't mind all the stuff I would hate if it were American cops. It's so flipping British.

Also very unimpressed with new bouncy hair woman. I looooooooved Ros more than any other TV character (except costume drama characters). Just loved the fact that her gender wasn't ever made into an issue - she didn't have a home life (that we saw or heard about), she was 100% dedicated to the job, had an acid tongue, a mean high kick and a great line in leather jackets.

Was also fond of Tarik - the dimple in the chin, the cheeky smile and the big brown eyes. Sigh.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 02/10/2011 22:16

It's implausible, wooden, repetitive... And I bloody love it.

I second that emotion!

NewChoos · 03/10/2011 08:57

Brilliant episode last night. Although if I was the sister of the anarchist, I would have known there was no way Dimitri was really interested in me.

Was the home sec trying to woo Ruth personally as well as professionally?!

PassTheTwiglets · 03/10/2011 09:58

I thought the Home Sec (LOVING him this series, btw!) was flirting with Ruth, yes. Interesting!

I'd like to discuss one final, important matter. With regard to the inherent juxtaposition of the aesthetic lightness of hope against the bleak, often crepuscular narrative... just how hot was Dimitri looking last night?

NewChoos · 03/10/2011 11:10

I'm normally fairly neutral about Dimitri but did think he looked rather nice last night.

diddl · 03/10/2011 11:24

Writings not up to much though.

That guy gave Dimitri a hug & he didn´t think to check that something had been planted on him?

Panzee · 03/10/2011 12:44

He does seem to be the Worst Spy Ever. :o

PassTheTwiglets · 03/10/2011 13:15

NewChoos, yes, Dimitri normally pales in comparison to Lovely Lucas but there was something about him last night!! I think it was the suit and nice tie - and his silly not-quite-a-moustache had gone.

BerylStreep · 03/10/2011 16:40

Hmm - yes, Dimitri was looking like a hottie last night, but I second Worst Spy Ever. Who gives updates on the phone like that? e.g., in the crowded pub 'Control, this is what's happening ...'

Someone needs to remind him of telephone protocol - e.g. 'Yes Auntie Doris, I'd love some John Dory for dinner'. Anyone could have heard him! Shock. Although I suppose someone has to explain the story-line to the viewers.

Have been thinking about the Greek tragedy angle. Was it Perseus who killed his father (or was it Grandfather?) without even knowing who he was? Perhaps Sacha will kill Harry?

Will go and wiki Perseus.

BerylStreep · 03/10/2011 16:51

Yep, as I thought, Perseus accidentally killed his grandfather, with either a quoit or a discus.

Folks, you read it here first!

PassTheTwiglets · 03/10/2011 17:00

Also, since when did they start using the word "Control" I never heard this before now (did I miss it?) It makes them sound like the spies that Fry & Laurie used to do...

thestringcheeseincident · 04/10/2011 10:54

Well I've caught up and I did think Dimitri totally bought the sexy back. Although stupid for not realising he'd be bugged.
I thought it was a bit anti-climatic being the CIA who were behind the hits.
Ummm.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 04/10/2011 14:45

I thought he really put the Dim into Dimitri. Would an MI5 operative really call the office from a mobile phone? In a bar? And not spot that he'd been bugged?

TheSmallPrint · 04/10/2011 14:58

Well I think Dimitri was highly convincing as an Estate Agent and I third the Worst Spy Ever award. 'Control, the baddie has told me he isn't a baddie and so I believe him. He says some other baddies did it and he's going to tell them off for us so we can all go home now.'

I also immediately thought the hugging thing was planting something on him.

Can I ALSO so say, I think you'll notice I was right up there ^ when I said it was the american who organised the nicking of Very Important Suitcase.

Biscuitsandtea · 04/10/2011 17:00

Smallprint - we said that about Dimitry too - why on earth would the fact that the baddie had a terminal illness prevent him from being a suicide bomber? HmmConfused

He needs a serious performance review after this assignment......

Biscuitsandtea · 04/10/2011 17:02

Having said that, if I ended up on a blind / internet date with him I might think I'd won the jackpot based on last night! Never ever really given him a second look before but Mmmmmm....

Maybe just because he was in the shadow of Sir Lucas of North before........

33goingon64 · 04/10/2011 17:26

My favourite scene was with the blue van and the men in radiation suits... The van door opens, we see there is nothing inside. Bouncy hair woman says 'the van is empty. There is no bomb'. No shit Sherlock!

Biscuitsandtea · 04/10/2011 17:28
Grin

I imagine she is paid for her keen sense of observation....
