Just started watching it - seems really good already. Fred West (actor) is very good at making me feel very uncomfortable.

Christ, festi, no, no, no!

I don't know, mygoldfishisevil - I suppose they have to. She looks like she's got the worst job in the world.

I did appropriat training yonks ago and I cant remember to much about the confidance thing, I think we were adviced to not discuss anything with the person other than to either advocate for them during interview ie, breaks etc, say if you felt they didnt understand, seek medical assesments or advocate solicitor etc. I wish I had remembered. I guess all she could do was to step down as AP and inform the police.

was rose the driving force then, I dont remember too much was pretty young at the time.

I remember a friend of my brothers dad apparently worked with him on building sites down south.

It's compelling viewing. Dominic West has been made up to look uncannily like him, but also the way he sets his own features to look like him is very very clever IYKWIM. Great acting all round.

I know their children really hated Rose. She raped her sons. She's hardly human, in my opinion.

I remember reading a story ages ago by a girl who had a 'narrow escape' from the Wests. She claimed that Rose was was worse than Fred, and that Fred let her go, and that he was scared of Rose. (Incredibly in-a-nutshell version)

MrsSnoops · 04/09/2011 21:54

Rose worked as a prostitute and her Father was a client.

Seriously fucked up all round really. So much damage to so mane people and so many generations.

ImperialBlether · 04/09/2011 21:54

Oh god, it's so vile that he's telling her things, knowing she can't tell anyone.

Apparently both Rose and Fred were victims of incest, and were brought up to believe that it was commonplace.

It's uncanny really that two such evil people could end up together.

Feel so sad for the victims families, as well as the West children Sad.

I think he was barely literate.

I know Martin Amis believes his cousin was picked up by him and maybe Rose when she was waiting at a bus stop. Fred claimed that Martin Amis's cousin fancied him. His cousin was a bright, articulate, artistic girl and Fred West was a barely literate, smelly man. He was outraged that Fred should claim this, but accepted he (Fred) couldn't really remember one murder from another. I don't think he was ever tried for the cousin's death, it was just that Fred admitted giving her a lift and she was never seen again.

I think it goes to show, though, that evil people are made, generally, they are not born that way.

I also read that Fred's dad indulged in and encouraged bestiality, as well as incest, and apparently told Fred that he should do whatever he wants, as long as he doesn't get caught.

I think that with this sort of parenting, it's no wonder he turned out the way he did....

I wish, then, that parents could be charged when they've brought them up like that.

"That poor woman isn't allowed to repeat anything he's told her"

stupid question but if this is the case then doesn't this mean the whole Drama is made-up? Or was she allowed to 'tell' after he killed himself?

Report
festi · 04/09/2011 22:07

Imperial I have proffessionaly come across so many families where incest and DV is common place, mostly people who have very very poor outcomes in education etc and know no difference and continues through out generation after generation.

Report
DuelingFanjo · 04/09/2011 22:08

Rose West was 15 years old when she met Fred West, in many ways she was a victim too.

ImperialBlether · 04/09/2011 22:10

I don't know, Fanjo. I suppose once he's dead she could talk, but I'm not sure.

Festi, I can hardly imagine people living like that. I know intellectually it happens, but I've never come across it myself. It must take a lot out of you, doing your job.

DuellingFanjo - she was allowed to tell after the trial had taken place. The whole thing seriously messed her up - she had a stroke in the courtroom.

I know if it was me, there is no way I would have kept all that to myself - I would have been telling the police everything - it would be for the greater good.

I would imagine if she is no loner acting as AP in any capacity she can tell her story once the trial is over. Most APs are volunteers aswell, so i dont even imagine she was being paid.

And there wasn't even Mumsnet for her! Poor, poor woman. What a lot of stress she's under.

MrsCooper, she had a stroke in the courtroom? Oh god how awful.

I wouldn't have been able to keep it to myself either, but then there's probably a risk of the case being dropped if it's not all done by the book.

(Not sure how it could be dropped if bodies are found though.)
