Just started watching it - seems really good already. Fred West (actor) is very good at making me feel very uncomfortable.

Just finished watching the second part. I am a bit confused about why J.Leach continued to see Fred. When she tried to commit suicide I wondered if it was because she wasn't important any more.
Bloody good drama, and, as someone else said, even the actress playing Rose was chiling.

I hope Rose West is never released.
She's the scariest real life person I've ever seen. Even just looking at the actress playing her gave me the creeps.

If it reflects what really happened, I wonder how she could put her own family through it. Appears her eldest son was unfairly burdened with keeping the family going.

Her later contact with West came across as bonkers - a bit like those women who fall in love with 'lifers' or men on death row

I thought this drama was brilliant, I love Emily Watson anyway, but really it was very gripping. I cried like a baby when they showed the real victims at the end. I have read loads of books about the West's and they both had upbringings which included incest and bestiality.

It is a fascinating case, the arguments about too soon are valid too. I had never heard about the cult/barn/brother thing that really did send shivers down my spine. I so hope it isn't true (but fear it is).

Dominic West played a good part.

I am finding this very difficult to watch.

Yes it is acted very well but it seems so...I can't think of the word, but too soon to dramatise such a hideous story when the family of the West still live and work in Gloucester, and have to live with all these memories.

The acting is brilliant, but it is very unsavoury imo.

But I do remember the reporting of the case at the time and it was very much geared towards Rose being the mastermind and him being her lapdog.

x post lovecorrie, I wonder if it is because her was vulnerable and rose was orchestarting him in a way, or because this programe is just from the POV of janet.

lovecorrie · 11/09/2011 21:36

I'm enjoying it, but I really do find him too 'likeable', iykwim. It's all a bit odd.

I take it janet was involved in the making of the program, it is obviouse that her reflection of him is being depicted in a very biased manner.

There definitely was somewhat of a comedy element to the interviews in last weeks episode.

Why is she helping him fgs? I heard that she (Janet) was also of fairly low intelligence. She was no way qualified to have those kind of conversations with him! It's absurd!

Fab fact - the lady copper was the "the wa'er in Majorca don't taste like wha' i' ough'a" advert actress from a long time ago.

She also kept in touch with him in prison right up until his death.
Perhaps it was some sort of morbid fascination or she was trying to find out why he did the things he did?
Who knows. Maybe we will find out on Sunday.

I dont feel that sorry for janet, I did at some points in the drama, however, I do feel that she chose to remain involved and she could have walked away as she did not have any proffessional otr moral obligation not to, she was adviced to in some ways wither line manager and the polices attempts to pull her out. Not sure why she didnt.

I watched this on ITV player last night - my goodness Dominic West was superb in the role. Very chilling indeed.

I feel so sorry for Janet she's in such a hard place :(

I read somewhere she couldn't look at Dominic on set as he was so like FW and it gave her shivers whenever she was near him.

Just googled it, several other papers reported it too. I don't normally think corporal punishment is a good thong but for them I would make an exception!

i would hate to even consider that scarlett.
