Just wondering what you are making of it so far!

Casting on the whole is very good, a few things have been changed but have been thinking of what is to come.

Not looking forward to seeing Viserys (even though he deserves it, the arrogant twat!)

Or worse what Theon does when he loses Rickon and Bran!!

My favourite portayal is definitely Peter Drinklage's Tyrion Lannister, he is fab!!

I think they'll cast her as described. GRRM was firm about it, apparently. One of the runners for it is [http://i2.listal.com/image/1288985/500full.jpg Calamity Jane from Deadwood]

KaraStarbuckThrace · 02/06/2011 07:05

Calamity Jane from Deadwood

You need 2 square brackets for links.

I've always thought Miranda Hart would be a good choice for Brienne...

SummerRain · 02/06/2011 09:43

I was worried they'd turn Brienne into a swarthy but attractive amazonian type too so glad to hear they'll be sticking to George's description.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 02/06/2011 11:11

Hmm someone suggested Katee Sackoff!

Now she is fantastic in BSG, but she is way too pretty to be Brienne.

OP posts:
SummerRain · 02/06/2011 11:52

I doubt the best actor in the world could call her an 'ugly wench' and keep a straight face Grin

It's exactly what I was afraid of though, american tv is terrified of ugly women, look at 'ugly betty' ffs.... hardly the most unpleasant looking woman is she?

KaraStarbuckThrace · 02/06/2011 14:10

Actually I have been reconsidering, they could give her a make up job!
Like Emma Thompson in Nanny McPhee!

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 02/06/2011 14:15

She also needs to be bigger than and stronger than the average man.

We're looking for a 6-foot rugby-playing girl here (or maybe water polo).

KaraStarbuckThrace · 02/06/2011 14:17

Yeah I did consider that... but Tom Cruise did manage to pull off the Vampire Lestat in interview of the vampire, despite not being much taller than Peter Drinklage. Grin

That was what was wrong with the last episode, no Tyrion!!

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 02/06/2011 14:24

Height wasn't a crucial part of Lestat's character though, was it?

Brienne needs to be mistakeable for a fully-grown quite-large man when in armour. (not as big as the Hound but bigger than little Loras)

CatPower · 02/06/2011 14:25

Hey, I'm 5'11" and "bulky", maybe I should audition? I could handle being imprisoned with Jaime Lannister for a bit... Wink

KaraStarbuckThrace · 02/06/2011 14:27

It was in the book, it was one of the things that got him chosen to be Magnus's heir as he was uncommonly tall for the era he lived in, and he was taller than Louis. Less so in the book though.

I reckon they'll get some unknown actress to play Brienne.

OP posts:
TrillianAstra · 02/06/2011 14:29

Ah but which book? If it was book 2 or later you know that book 1 (and the film) was all Louis's lies, so maybe Louis lied and said that Lestat was shorter than he really was. Wink

SummerRain · 02/06/2011 14:56

Louis didn't lie..... he just saw events from a different perspective. He wasn't turned properly because Lestat didn't really know what he was doing so he never really became the strong, powerful killer that the other vampires were, even centuries later he was weaker than the weakest of them, that weakness affected his perception of the world he had been forced to enter, and of his maker.

I wasn't keen on the movie, it didn't do the books justice at all.... I blame shortarse Tom Cruise

TrillianAstra · 02/06/2011 15:24

Lestat said he lied...

because Anne Rice wanted to write a sequel and realised that Louis was too mopey.

SummerRain · 02/06/2011 16:44

Grin he was an incredibly miserable and whiny vampire.

SummerRain · 02/06/2011 16:49

Christ some of the suggestions for Brienne on the net are terrible!

People are so used to Hollywoood ugly these days they think any woman who's tall with a squarish jaw is suited to the part.

She's supposed to be mannish, with buck teeth, scraggy hair, no breasts and the size of a well built man!

KaraStarbuckThrace · 02/06/2011 18:30

Yep Louis was a wuss Grin

Maybe they should just cast Eddie Izzard....

OP posts:
FoofffyShmoofffer · 02/06/2011 19:37

Does NOBODY feel like they are watching Eddie Izzard when Tyrion Lannister/Peter Dinklage is speaking?? I frequently forget who I'm watching.

Incidentally, I LOVE this series. Haven't read the books and only started watching for DH really but it's really excellent.

FoofffyShmoofffer · 02/06/2011 19:40

Balls.

I appear to have x posted somewhere.

Ephiny · 03/06/2011 13:26

"The books should come with a mental health warning... if fragile of disposition, do not attempt to read these books!"

Yes - I read book 3 last year when I was ill in bed for a week. Don't know what I was thinking, as I really could have done with some light, cheering reading, instead I got death, destruction and misery :( There was an awful bit where he led us to believe Arya had been killed, would never have forgiven him for that if it had been true!

Ephiny · 03/06/2011 13:30

Have read many suggestions for Brienne's casting - the most interesting was a discussion of whether she could actually be played by a man, as it would be easier than finding a suitably ugly and masculine actress! I hope they don't make her too pretty as that would completely change the character. I love Katee Sackhoff and she was great in BSG which was obviously a non-girly role, but it would be a real struggle to make her look anything approaching ugly.

TrillianAstra · 03/06/2011 14:49

She's just not big enough.

SummerRain · 03/06/2011 18:49

Brienne is a tough one. Even in the books she's not a particularly heartwarming character, although she grows on you after a while, and I really do fear that the casting directors may decide that she needs to be made more likable... which in hollywood means pretty unfortunately.

CaurnieBred · 05/06/2011 16:45

Do none of you watch Glee? I know she is too old but Dot-Marie Jones who plays Shannon Beiste would have fit the Brienne bill.

Have just downloaded book 4; can't wait.
