Bring your notebooks, your whiteboards, your clipboards, your pens, your tape measures and your waterways maps to solve the problem of what happened to Nanna Birk Larsen.

OP posts:

I'll be very disappointed if it is Brix. or Vagn. Both have seemed so shifty from the start that they are too obvious.

The passport could be a recent plant by the killer to draw attention to the house. OR Nanna shoved it there.

lula i like your theory re Mette being an accident. And that being the event which pulled Theis, Morten and Vagn together.

And funny the mention of The Usual Suspects. I've always thought the Nanna's killer was Verbal Kent iyswim. And the scene where Meyer is shot by glove man is straight out of The Usual Suspects. Did anyone read anything in Meyer's face? A look of recognition or 'what the hell, it can't be you' kind of thing?

The biblical thing is a red herring too I think! Just about every theme know to man is covered in the bible.

jammietart · 21/03/2011 13:41

Libra I could not visit Copenhagen right now! You are very brave! I had the worst nightmares again last night.

teej · 21/03/2011 13:47

jammie that was me rambling on about usual suspects and that is exactly what i thoughtGrin

jammietart · 21/03/2011 13:56

teej i was shouting 'say his name' to Meyer (through my TV obviously) when glove man was pointing the gun at him. But obv that wasn't going to happen! But could you read anything in his expression?

I said way back that Morten reminds me of Verbal but really Vagn is the more likely character. But my money is still on Morten. I nearly puked when he eyed himself up in the mirror last night.

I'm really unhappy that Meyer is dead.

Libra · 21/03/2011 13:57

Am torn between it being Theis or Troels. Think it has to be one of them since they are the king-pin in the two menage a trois.

Look - are we sure that it is Nanna that we see running around the woods?

I have a horrible feeling that not all the ends are going to be tied up and that some things will just be left hanging - like the passport. There will just be a silent shot of the family happily moving into their new house and then a last shot of the boiler in the cellar.

Have to go to Copenhagen because it is a great gathering of the clans for MIL's 90th birthday. No excuses allowed. Hence the being put up in a cousin's summer house miles from the nearest bar police station.

jammietart · 21/03/2011 14:07

Libra Actually I've always wanted to go to Copenhagen. And maybe I will again by Sunday morning!

I have wondered if its someone else being chased at the beginning. It struck me a few episodes back that I really wouldn't know enough about Nanna to recognise her. But i can't recall now why I thought that was relevant or would make a material difference. What's your thinking?

wigwam1973 · 21/03/2011 14:10

Can I rejoin? Like Atswim I realised I was getting too addicted to this thread so had to have a break. Has taken me ages to catch up.

Finally watched both episodes on iplayer last night. Can't stop thinking about it, and feel really sad about Meyer Sad. Feel guilty now about the comment I made about his ears sticking out. Sad Sad

I too, think it's too obvious that Brix was involved with his death. I think Brix is a major red herring, even though he does give me the creeps. Reminds me of a Danish Frankenstein. Always stands very stiffly and never seems to move very much.

I'm with Teej on the Vagn theory. I think last night was all about putting the suspicion back on Leon (and making us feel sorry for Vagn), but I actually think Vagn is pretty canny, and a pathological liar. He's very good at coming up with plausible lies i.e. about the cancelled job on Saturday. I think Leon was telling the truth about that. What was it Leon said from the car 'you don't know the half of it'. Wonder what he was referring to?

My DH agrees with Lula about Mette being killed in an accident (being knocked over by removal truck) and Vagn helping Leon to cover it up. Therefore, Leon under Vagn's thumb. I think Leon phoned Vagn to tell him he'd had Nanna in his cab and had dropped her at the flat, and Vagn came looking for her. Agree he is racist and couldn't bear the fact that Nanna was going off with Amir. I think Meyer's summary in that interview with Vagn was pretty spot on actually.

Still don't understand why company flat was left empty i.e. crime scene for so long. Surely if it was a company apartment, it would have been cleaned fairly frequently. Did the same person who cancelled the loo cancel the cleaner for fear the crime scene would be discovered too early?

Ree (I keep calling her Bree) very suspicious. She was wearing lots of red last night (and I wouldn't wonder red underwear). Where was Morten when she and Troel's were having it off on the desk?

Phew.

Libra · 21/03/2011 14:11

I wouldn't want to give it the title of 'thinking'. It was more that we know that she was really badly injured and raped and then tied up for so long. I wondered whether she would be able to a) escape from her captor/s after hours tied up and b) run for so long.
So I wondered if it was definitely her and if the hunt definitely happened just before she went in the car boot.

cathbath · 21/03/2011 14:29

A few episodes back Troels was pictured for a second in a kind of crucifixion pose, when flinging the double doors wide open (which struck me at the time as being like The Prisoner - but perhaps is the biblical theme).

I think Vagn is guilty in some way (he just looks so haunted) but not of killing Nanna. Perhaps he was involved in the events which led to her death. We also know he is racist and we have the theme of the Role Models / Rama, and Nana's boyfriend.

I've just thought - perhaps whoever finished Meyer off wasn't Nanna's killer - as when Holck killed Olav? (Sorry, this may have been mentioned before.) Multiple killers and multiple cover-ups...? In fact I can't help thinking that almost everyone in the story is guilty of some part in what happened, or in trying to cover it up!

KnitterNotTwitter · 21/03/2011 14:49

I'm back and have finally caught up!!

Someone asked about cellars for Troels summer house... I'm sure I remember that it had one and the only traces on the floor of it were fish blood..

I had guessed that Theis/PErnille's new house was going to be where she was held... Wonder how Lund will get out of the internal investigation thing and discover the passport...

Sad for Meyer and his family - very unexpected... but think that Vagn went to the hospital and pulled the plug...

wigwam1973 · 21/03/2011 14:58

Oh, and one last thing. I thought acting was superb in last episode. Especially Sofie Grabol's grief when hearing news of Meyer's demise. And expression on her face as she was driven off to be questioned.

Can't see how Vagn can have pulled the plug with Meyer's wife being there with him, unless he put on scrubs and pretended to be a doctor. But that's been done before, hasn't it? Would expect these writers to come up with something a bit different.....

JudithMarie · 21/03/2011 15:13

Thank you to everyone for the speculation and theories. Almost as fascinating as the programme!

As I understand it, we are either looking for a 'mastermind' who knows the workings of City Hall, the police, the school, Birk Larsen's new house, the hospital and the public prosecutor's office. Or, we are looking for incidents which connect people - trip to Latvia, ('boys going out for a ..' didn't Holck say something about that?) an accidental drowning, disputed paternity, dirty doings in the party flat, financial corruption, racism, favours being called in. In other words they're all rotten and somehow Nanna fell into the middle of it. Maybe, as someone suggested, she was passed from one to another to her death. Yes, but!! Who did it? Sorry, don't know Blush

cathbath · 21/03/2011 15:23

Wigwam am liking your theory (sorry, cross-posted about the Vagn racist thing). Judith, it does seem like almost everyone is rotten and corrupt rather than there being a criminal mastermind behind it all...

I am amazed by the subtlety of the acting. I have spent so long strongly disliking a character (eg Vagn and Rie), and then in the space of an episode suddenly find myself feeling sorry for them. (Though with Rie it didn't last long!)

Blackduck · 21/03/2011 15:25

With Teej and putting my moneyon Vagn.
Don't think Mette was an accident as autopsy would have thrown that up.
Nana'a death is a way of showing that corruption exists at all levels as everyone who is implicated sees their life and career come under the spotlight. We are all fallible, but some more so than others.

I think Vagn is racist and had a thing for Nana and saw Nana as breaking up the happy family - how could she do that? Either Leon told Vagn where she was (deliberately or in passing), or she called Vagn in order to get a lift to the station (aware she was running out of time). Once he had knocked her around there was no way back.

The crime set ripples going in a pond spreading further and further out, but the solution is closer to home....

Blackduck · 21/03/2011 15:41

Knitter - you are right about the fish blood on the floor in Troels' cottage....

Fivecentsplease · 21/03/2011 15:42

Found a crumb of evidence against Morten maybe - he says he checked the mailing that went out of the office, and found that Rie had posted a package the night the tape was given to Lund. But wasn't the tape hand delivered? So is he trying to smear Rie ....also being helpful chasing the loo cancellation - the act of a guilty party not wishing anyone else to speak to the plumber?

Could the faffing with the tie, snipping the lable etc be akin (visually anyway) to the kiss of Judas?

And the look in the mirror afterwards.... - he mimics Troels... Now I have motive for him, which is jealously over his lack of success relationship wise!....he went to the flat, found Nanna, was overcome with jealous rage, and.....Bingo!

Fivecentsplease · 21/03/2011 15:44

Also, the person in last weeks episode had just killed someone: Morten seemed more creepy that usual, whereas Vagn seemed as limp as ever.....

Margles · 21/03/2011 15:56

Couldn't they (Troel's staff) find out who cancelled the new loo? Was it by phone - could they find out whether it was a man or a woman who placed the call?

teej · 21/03/2011 15:56
teej · 21/03/2011 16:01

can i just applaud five for a mo? that stuff morten said about the package has been bothering me but i couldn't put my finger on it. of course - why would rie bother posting something that was delivered by hand by someone who then runs away?
morten for troels' judas, then? and he really did send that tip off email?

jammietart · 21/03/2011 16:01

We should have a list for next week. Your top three suspects in order of suspicion.

teej · 21/03/2011 16:03

margles the loo business is very fishy with both rie and morten saying the firm is saying slightly different things. would confirm one or t'other is a bad 'un.

jammietart · 21/03/2011 16:06

five that look in the mirror was creepy. And I think that you are right that episode 18 seemed to throw more light on Morten's behaviour than before. But the whole 'who sent the package' city hall behaviour was odd. Was it Bremmer who suggested in a threatening way that the envelope was the same as Troels used in his office? I mean wtf? It would be difficult to trace an A4 envelope with any degree of certainty wouldn't it?

teej · 21/03/2011 16:17

jammie he was mightily pleased with himself when he was looking in that mirror....

not convinced that morten is capable of killing nanna though - as i've said before i think he is a "confirmed bachelor"....

muminlondon · 21/03/2011 16:31

Am enjoying cathbath's parallel between Troels and Patrick McGoohan or even Jesus ...

Still feeling very sad about Meyer though have stopped blaming Lund for it.
