Bring your notebooks, your whiteboards, your clipboards, your pens, your tape measures and your waterways maps to solve the problem of what happened to Nanna Birk Larsen.

poor meyer :( I also hope he's miraculously not dead or something along those lines

I missed a chunk of episodes in the middle. How did the passport get into the new house? Or do we not know that

(I fell asleep in Waking the Dead AGAIN grrr)

Blackduck · 21/03/2011 08:08

Lula - yep, I noticed that...and did wonder. Surely if the injuries had been consistant with an accident the autopsy would have indicated that?

Passport - we have no idea how it got there. Left by Nanna, left by accident by the killer - we don't know.....

If it's Vagn he's a bloody good liar!

Blackduck · 21/03/2011 08:11

Have to say I loved Lund trying to do empathy bit with Meyer's wife and it being clear she had not internalised his kids names/ages! Loved the bit 'X is the oldest then?' No shit, Sherlock, you know Y is the youngest and Z is in the middle so, x must be the oldest........

MinnieBar · 21/03/2011 09:19

I really hope the final episode and reveal isn't a disappointment ? not only because the quality has been so high to date, but I hope all the loose ends get tied up (eg who cut Lund's light) and that the identity of the killer 'makes sense' IYSWIM. I hope there have been clues throughout that the viewer has been able to get, and not that at the end we'll be going 'huh? But how? But who? but when? huh?'

Margles · 21/03/2011 10:00

She had only known Meyer for a couple of weeks, and was totally obsessed with her work, so I think she can be excused not knowing Meyer's kids names.

What I don't think she can be excused is going into the building on her own again and thus helping to endanger Meyer.

Fivecentsplease · 21/03/2011 10:02

We are being led up the garden path with Brix, don't you think, as we get clear shots of his leather gloves, evil/wierd face with dead Meyer in the background......He's still police chief in Series 2 after all!

We should know by now that the most likely suspect at the close is going to be a red herring. (feel the same about the passport being found on the audibly (ball boucing) cement floor)

Like the idea that Mette was an accident, though that doesn't fit with Bengt's ideas... I also like Lunds thought that she was the first, a crime of passion, that started him off on his serial killing...

Given the quality so far, I think we could tot up all of the bits that have been purposefully unexplained, rather than the elements which we have been pointed to as unexplained.....Am I making sense in a Donald Rumsfelt kinda way? The known unknowns, and the unknown knowns!!

To start the list: Who is the link between City Hall and Police
Who could have known they would look for Mettes old stuff, and have known where it was stored?
Where was Morten that weekend?
Is Rie working with Dessau - is she a plant?

Stokey38 · 21/03/2011 10:07

I am convinced it's Morten as he is the only one who has not been pulled in as a suspect and he would have had access to the car when Troels was at the cottage passed out.I think that Leon kidnapped her and Morten raped and killed her but not sure why except that he is weird. Poor Meyer, although as soon as he started talking about his kids I thought his time was up!

Fivecentsplease · 21/03/2011 10:32

Stokey I think I'm with you....though haven't ruled out Troels/Rie yet as being involved...If Troels left that flat sometime just before 11, and Leon picked her up from city hall at 10.45, then she must have passed him/Leon must have seen him. There was also the other woman hanging around, looking for Troels....and she saw the shorter man with curly hair at the window.

Whoever it was would have to be scary enough to have threatened Leon, and scared him enough to leave the country......and have links to the police know the investigations.

cathbath · 21/03/2011 10:58

Just joining the thread as I've caught up with the latest episodes on iPlayer. I don't think I've ever been so obsessed with a programme! Feeling kind of depressed and even tearful after the last episode (loved Meyer).

At times, Troels reminds me of Patrick McGoohan in The Prisoner (the shots of him flinging doors wide open etc). Rie is like some kind of Shakespearean villain plotting in the background - totally manipulative.

Fivecents, think that's a great idea to look at the unknowns. We don't know much about Rie's father except that he is very powerful.

Also Morten. I keep thinking about Troels's wife and how Morten mentioned her when they were talking in the bar (that he had sat there next to Troels after she died). It was also said that she died suddenly. I know she had cancer, but could there have been more to it? As with the ambiguity around Vagn's mother's death. And also Meyer seemed to be recovering but then died suddenly...

The loyalty between Morten and Troels is in parallel with Vagn and Theis - perhaps each are bound together by some guilt from the past? It seems Morten would do anything for Troels. Also like Vagn, Morten doesn't seem to have much in his life - but Troels (until his wife died) had everything going for him. It feels like Troels is at the centre of everything although I don't believe he's actually guilty...

Blackduck · 21/03/2011 11:01

Margles - I think the kids bit was deliberate on the part of the writers. It is all part of Lunds 'non-empathy'....In a way Meyers knew more about her than she knew about him....

Anyone think it's Vagn and he went back and finished Meyer off (he has had medical training after all)

Fivecentsplease · 21/03/2011 11:13

Perhaps Morten is the foil for Vagn - in that he's the 3rd party the relationships but where as vagn appears seedy, but he's loyal and is having a stab at loving his adoptive 'family', whereas Morten appears weedy/harmless but is actually sinister.

Something that is really bugging me - the car seen at troels summer cottage - it just didn't fit, that a car was seen there over the weekend: If Troels had really tried the suicide, and not cleared up in any way, the car would not have been there long.

Perhaps Troels is protecting Morten? Perhaps it was Morten who tried suicide? Morten knows about the summer cottage, after all...

Fivecentsplease · 21/03/2011 11:45

In at least 2 wallanders (and one Moomin) those summer cottages have had an outdoor underground store room....perhaps we'll find where she was kept with evidence of the killer (though of course it will be a red herring in ep. 19)

teej · 21/03/2011 12:21

mmmm - do love catching up with the thread - always gives me something else to think about!

what if the biblical theme is judas?

Fivecentsplease · 21/03/2011 12:25

Judas as Morten betraying Troels. Or Vagn betraying Thies? They are the 2 disciples, don't you think......

Stokey38 · 21/03/2011 12:27

And I have always had the theory that Nanna was killed in the house that Theis bought. Something to do with the damp that was never detected and her being in water. I am a wedding next Saturday and would probably rather be at home watching The Killing!!

Habbibu · 21/03/2011 12:43

Can I please ask that the people who know stuff about series 2 treat it as a spoiler? It's giving some stuff away that I'd rather not know atm. Thanks.

teej · 21/03/2011 13:10

exactly five! but i think we have betrayals in both threads of the story....
for the political thread - morten or rie to have betrayed troels in his attempts to be elected mayor
and for the killing - vagn betraying theis' trust in him!

btw - love you getting the Moomin's into this thread - that stinky has always been very dodgy

rofl stokey i hope the wedding isn't your own! it looks like your instincts were good re theis' house being a likely venue for where nanna was held Smile

btw lula yy that comment from vagn about being grassed up was added onto my mounting "mrcreepy did it" evidence pile with some satisfaction Grin

like blackduck i think re mette it was no accident - she was murdered. now if we think about it - lund thinks this is a crime of passion and was the killer's first murder.

leon we know has a chequered private life in the past but it seems he has managed to evolve a more sophisticated way of dealing with it - ie getting divorced a few times! so i doubt he would kill out of unrequited love iykwim.

i think during his various divorces etc he was down on his luck and needed cash/a job and vagn helped him out by persuading theis to take him on. so that's the way in which he "owes them"

Libra · 21/03/2011 13:22

Please don't start telling me that those summer houses have a cellar!

We are off to one in ten days' time! It has been loaned to us through MIL and is somewhere just outside Copenhagen. When Leon was being spotted all over the place at train stations, DH said 'That's the station you will need to use to get to the summer house' (Note he will be staying in Copenhagen for a conference for most of the week).

AIBU to realise that I will not actually sleep in this sinister summer house, loaned to us by unnamed people, arranged by MIL, who has city hall connections?

Am packing light bulbs.

teej · 21/03/2011 13:25

cathbath i love the way this series has certain themes echoing all the way through, both from a plot perpective and in the cinematography (eg the wonderful red theme)

aw proles, mum and everyone else in mouring for meyer {{hugs}}

fox another theory re the passport - if the killer is vagn - he placed it there as a trophy so nanna would be "with him" in the basement . otherwise i'm betting nanna shoved it there as a clue or it just fell out when she was dragged into the basement and wasn't picked up...

trickquestion · 21/03/2011 13:27

Just caught up last night, in mourning for Meyer here too, although when people on telly say that they'll pick up medicine for their ill child on the way home it usually means something bad is going to happen to them Sad

I think it is Brix, has to be someone who is powerful enough to terrify Leon and he has links to the investigation and the new house and probably to City Hall and who knows what else.

teej · 21/03/2011 13:28

and still think morten would chase after troels rather than nanna iykwim Grin
did you SEE the way he preened himself in that mirror?!

teej · 21/03/2011 13:30

someone who had been questioned about the investigation would also have an idea of where the team was at...
