What a pile of absolute crap

Have just switched it off, bored

OP posts:

I think she just had an attitude, she remnded me of an old Russian flatmate I had. Stunning looking but as selfish as hell with no people skills. Thought nothing of getting up at 4am to dye her hair shocking pink, as well as the walls, carpet and bath. She was never in a hurry to go anywhere and would just shrug her shoulders if you confronted her about anything. That young was was definately up all night partying. I don't think the agency can be blamed for everything though, you have to be responsible for yourself at some point. Carol looks like she may have indulged in her youth.

sharbie · 24/03/2011 13:42

i would have like to see more of them all dolled up at their party

expatinscotland · 24/03/2011 13:45

That's the point, they're supposed to look weird. Why? Because when photographed a) they don't even look like what they look like IRL b) the more unforgettable the face, the better.

They're mutants, anyhow. Extraordinarily tall and gawky with legs longer than torso so the clothes drape on them better. They're clothes horses, that's the job.

grumpypants · 24/03/2011 13:48

Um I think that is a slightly harsh description! Ages ago a model came to stay while going off to castings near us (abroad) and she was totally different looking - other species but absolutely stunning.

expatinscotland · 24/03/2011 13:50

Harsh? My own daughter's been approached by several big agencies. She's built like a giraffe and looks very different IRL compared to how she turns out in a photograph.

It's how it is. No agency of any prestige will take anyone on if they're under 5ft., 8in, anyhow and many want 5ft., 9in or above.

expatinscotland · 24/03/2011 13:53

Most people, women especially, are not 5ft., 10in with 45 in. long legs. It's rare, that's why it's sought after if you have the right proportions and photograph a certain way.

But as Darya's example shows, a good, professional attitude and no partying goes a long way.

Compare her to the girl last week, the English blond girl. Total difference in attitude.

Darya is stunning, however.

sharbie · 24/03/2011 13:57

she's not on their books anymore it would seem

grumpypants · 24/03/2011 13:57

I think I was trying to say that they may look otherwordly but are generally stunning - what are you deciding about your dd? Mine was with an agency when younger but I driopped it very quickly after turning up to catings where the girls were all curled and glossed. Very reluctant to consider it again now she would be nearly 'adult modelling'

grumpypants · 24/03/2011 13:58

'dropped' 'castings'

expatinscotland · 24/03/2011 14:01

She was hard work, sharbie. Probably why the Paris agency wasn't going to represent her. You have to take responsibility for yourself as in any job. She was rather immature, which is too bad because it can be an opportunity IF you have the right head on your shoulders, IYKWIM.

kittya · 24/03/2011 14:19

What if she wanted to give it a go though? I love Naomi

slug · 24/03/2011 14:24

I caught this yesterday. Did anyone else sit there wondering why the boss was allowed to smoke in the workplace?? Isn't that illegal?

kittya · 24/03/2011 14:56

She doesn't generally tbf

Highlander · 24/03/2011 16:20

I thought the agency was appallingly neglectful toward the young models.

anonacfr · 24/03/2011 16:35

I was hoping Darya was going to tell them to eff off quite frankly.

They make all their money off those teenagers, that's their job. They complained about her attitude and Aidan yelled at her in public in a shocking way. What do they expect when they have these teenage girls flying all over the world and expected to look after themselves and traipse around big cities alone?

Last night they had a girl who barely spoke any English nearly assaulted by a group of pissed blokes.
In the first episode they had a 16 year old flown to New York alone. First comment poor girl got was that she had to watch her weight. And they were surprised that she quit? Their reaction was annoyance that they'd 'invested so much time and effort' in her.
Nice.

anonacfr · 24/03/2011 16:36

Oh and by the way Leomie who's so lovely and loves being a model so much didn't seem to love it that much in yesterday's episode.
She was exhausted, had barely slept and was upset that she was missing so much college time. Bless.

grumpypants · 24/03/2011 16:37

i can't bear the smug 'for the camera' acting - Aidan making sure his bollocking could be seen and heard/ Eeyore like one sobbing on cue etc etc

expatinscotland · 24/03/2011 17:09

No one's putting a gun to these girls' heads and forcing them to be models. All of them are over 16 and able to do what they please.

southeastastra · 24/03/2011 17:18

love this programme, the models can make loads of money if they want to - could set them up for life! doubt the agency makes as much

southeastastra · 24/03/2011 17:19

i especially liked the moaning russian

kittya · 24/03/2011 17:22

I took myself off backpacking at 17. You soon grow up.

DesperateHousewife20 · 24/03/2011 17:28

That dreadful women with her whiney voice irritates me so much. The one who sits next to Carol and was on the phone to Coco.

expatinscotland · 24/03/2011 17:33

I have a feeling Darya will land on her feet agency or no agency.

anonacfr · 24/03/2011 17:50

They're teenagers whose only serious money prospects derive from their looks. They have 3/4 years lifespan as working models, they sometimes don't speak the language and have no idea what they're getting into.
You hear shocking stories about how those girls are treated. Yes, some can make loads of money but ultimately they also make money for their agency.

Would you really send your 16 year old by herself to New York, staying alone in a hotel and traipsing around the city visiting random casting agents? I wouldn't. And at least that girl was English and could understand the language. Coco (Japanese model) couldn't understand a thing and her agent (one with the cap) couldn't understand her either- and still she was sent by herself to random appointments.
I do find that odd.

NonnoMum · 24/03/2011 18:14

Does this programme just exist in order to create Harry Hill moments?
