Is that it Hmm

maryjane71 · 03/03/2011 21:57

Phew

Grabaspoon · 03/03/2011 21:58

Well that wasn't worth the other 3 episodes :( Really disapointed :(

YouMakeMeWannaLaLa · 03/03/2011 22:00

Very disappointing! I was really looking forward to that; a major anti-climax!

mumatron · 03/03/2011 22:00

so the ghost of alice hung around for 43 years so that she could expose an affair that had no bearing on any of the people in 2010?

she wasn't even murdered.

what utter crap

JobCarHouseNoBaby · 03/03/2011 22:00

Hmm

Bit of an anticlimax if you ask me. Certainly didn't warrant 5 episodes. Could have been done in 3.

MercyMe · 03/03/2011 22:01

Can't believe that's it. What a disappointing ending, they could have done it in 2 episodes.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 03/03/2011 22:01

Yes, DH and I both sobbing. So sad.

Fetlock · 03/03/2011 22:02

what a bloody disappointment, all dressed up and went bloody nowhere

lovecorrie · 03/03/2011 22:02

Mm, bit irritating that more wasn't made of Olive and Mark's baby - could have been some sort of relationship or connection with the 60's lot.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/03/2011 22:02

Shame.

melezka · 03/03/2011 22:02

Well the biggest shock in that was that Ruth didn't give her MIL a great bug smoochy hug when she left Hmm

FooffyShmoofffer · 03/03/2011 22:02

Really bland ending. Shame.

runnyhabbit · 03/03/2011 22:03

Think we predicted rather too wellSad shame they couldn't think of a real twist.

Thought all the goodbye scenes were good

maryjane71 · 03/03/2011 22:03

I'm just amazed I managed to watch a whole series and actually understood it!

Nevereatyellowsnow · 03/03/2011 22:09

I loved this series but the ending was really disappointing. I was starting to think that Olive's mum had gone to the woods and murdered Alice and thrown her body in the lake, that would have been a much better twist!

frecklyspeckly · 03/03/2011 22:12

I did think the bit with the washing machine good but we did kind of guess the ending collectively! (although in the end we had thrown so many theories up one of them had to be correct)

OracleInaCoracle · 03/03/2011 22:13

bit disappointed with the actual death bit, but it was well acted, well scripted and had us all guessing/gripped for 4 weeks. alice was suitably creepy and the ending had me in floods. that poor girl must have been so lonely and scared.

YouMakeMeWannaLaLa · 03/03/2011 22:15

Quite annoyed actually! All that tension, brilliant build up and leads that went nowhere.

I was sure the vicar, Brian (the 'lover'), the deceased lovechild and Alice's intricate knowledge of Marchland's plumbing system might all actually have had some bearing on the outcome. Turns out they were all pointless.

I did really enjoy the first 4 episodes. I'm glad it had a definative ending but it was a huge anti-climax Sad

daisymaybe · 03/03/2011 22:30

What I kind of like about that ending is it's all believable, based on things that happen regularly to families. Apart from the small ghost child, obviously.

What I don't like about that ending is that it's bloody boring because of the above reasons.

detachandtrustyourself · 03/03/2011 22:33

I agree with lissielou, and it was believable.

OracleInaCoracle · 03/03/2011 22:35

i think it would have worked better as a 5 hour show. as it was we built the suspense ourselves iykwim.

i would have liked alice to stay with baby alice though, just to keep an eye on her.

detachandtrustyourself · 03/03/2011 22:43

xposts with daisymaybe.

There was a satisfactory proper ending because Ruth found out what really happened. She needed that to let go. So sad that she had to wait that long. So sad she lost Alice. Olive was able to tell Ruth (she wasn't allowed to as a child), so she could feel better.

RustyRainbow · 03/03/2011 22:45

I thought maybe Ruth had gone mad at the end and older deader Alice would end up saving baby Alice from her (own mum) iyswim.

I did have to laugh at ASKOR
ASK O. R.
ASK Olive Runcie

As if you would??? How stupid do they think the average viewer is? Grin I suppose it did help 2011 mum find out where they were.

60s MIL may have been a cowbag and made the wrong decision in the end to keep it a secret but you get the impression she had a really shitty life in the end...

I liked the twist that 60s Ruth stayed with her husband - maybe only coming back now after he had died.

But the ultimate question for me is...

If Alice was such a good girl (helped to save Amy's brother etc.) why did she kill the kitten??? And do the scary overflowing bath with doll thing (i know she steamed the bath late to write askor but why do it before?)

Eleison · 03/03/2011 22:49

Yes, the green ink over-explanation was very funny. I thought she was also going to write "You know, the deaf one that lives up the road and was about the same age as Alice Number One and had sex with Alice Two's Dad though I didn't know about that."
