I was gobsmacked at the cutlery. How can they not have knives and forks? Dd2 is ony 3 but she wouldn't be able to eat if they didn't give her her 'pife, pork and poon' and all the various other implements she needs to be able to eat properly Hmm

sethstarkaddersmum · 21/09/2010 10:25

Aww @ pife, pork and poon. My ds1 used to insist it was 'an ife'.
(this has just reminded me of the memorable Saturdary breakfast-time when I was roused from my newspaper-reading trance by a funny tickling sensation on my back and dd going 'Mummy, ds1's buttering your fleece!')

I think Jamie was overly ambitious with the deep fryer family.

All those fresh herbs and salads...too much too soon.

If he would just have substituted chips for baked potatoes or home made mash, allowed a few frozen peas or plain carrots it would have had more of a chance.

If they would have eaten a plate of mash, some chops, and ANY veg it would already be an improvement wouldn`t it?

I bet you the deep fat fryer will be dug up soon.

Do any American Mumsnetters know if this series has been shown in the States? If so what has the general reaction by the media and parents?

I agree he went too hard core on "the family" and should have maybe got them making pizza with fresh ingredients etc to start off with.

nickstermum · 21/09/2010 12:49

Yes he won an emmy for it! apparently

Algebra18MinusPiEquals16 · 21/09/2010 16:07

It's on C4 so it might be on 4OD, Riven. Yesterday, but I'm not sure what time. We caught the end of it on plus 1.

ShinyAndNew · 21/09/2010 16:28

Just watched now. Shock about the knives & forks incident - could not believe the attitude they had about having to provide cutlery!

And when they took the family to the hospital - that little girl is 4. Four! Sad Angry I really hope the parents pull themselves together and help those kids.

I do think that Jamie does go a bit over the top with the food that he choses to cook the children at the school, although the fajitas looked good. If children are used to eating junk food then it is better to give them plainer foods to try. eg not tomato focaccia, but crusty brown bread, not a whole mixed salad, but cut up carrots, cucumber etc that they can chose from. Also what about trying chicken drumsticks, proper potato wedges, jacket potato with grated cheese, plain pasta as a side dish etc, which I am sure more children woudl be willing to try.
