fed up with the "omg a teen will stab me dramatics"
on monday dd had to have an operation(sn)
her 17yr old brother came to visit her with his friend(a girl) they stayed an hour and made her day.
he has another friend, who if you saw in the street would look scarey(mohican and all in black) yet whenever he comes to the house he comes in to show dd his hair, even though he knows she will lol

My dd's friends (mostly 16/17) were round last week and they said that they really liked coming to my house because they got real home-cooked food.

Funny, I don't remember them saying that when they were 8 and they looked horrified at getting green veg on their plates!

dh quit his job due to bully boy tactivs at work.

ds2(16) heard that he had got the aprenticeship he went for - not apprenticeship wages however - but substantially more.

so dh, ds and i were in teh car and i was talking to dh about where we stand financially.

ds pipes up " Mum, you can use my wages if you need them....as long as you don't spend it on dresses"

On the tube with an elderly friend - no seats, really packed, no eye contact from those seated near us. 2 teenage boys called to us and said if we could get to their seats we were welcome to sit down. People nearer gave us their seats instead but I thanked the boys for the thought.

I love being a mother to a teen. DD is 13 and spending time with her is such a joy, she is so funny.

DD (14) is wonderful with DS (5), plays endlessly with him, takes him out with her and her friends, saved a little girl from being run over in the summer holidays etc.

Both DD and DS (15) are funny, intelligent, loyal, loving, broadminded, caring etc.

I love teenagers, They are such good fun

I have an almost 12-yr-old going on 15. He says he is a goth. He has just started at secondary school and has met the nicest bunch of emo-gothy types in yrs 9 and 10 who have taken him under their wing, because all the Yr 7 boys were into football and had shaved heads
They encouraged him to join the lunchtime art club and showed him an ace youth club night which they have snuck him into where they all practice skateboard moves and talk about music.

i worked with hard core inner city kids, mostly young offenders. when i was very obviously pregnant, the kindness and respect they showed was really lovely and quite old fashioned...they always insisted they find me a seat and always told eachother off for swearing..."don't swear, shes a mum, for fucks sake!"

i love teens...i work with them day and night...not sure i'll be so understanding of my own though! ds is nearly 9 going on 15...a real "kevin"!

My sons (15 and 18) are caring and communicative. I wasn't feeling well on Sunday afternoon and the older one came in and asked me if I wanted one of his special pots of tea! He has also on a few occasions stood up for younger boys at school who are getting picked on by bigger ones.

They give me more and more pleasure as they are growing up. I can discuss anything with them from eastenders to whether god exists. I am not looking forward to when they flee the nest.

my dd swinging her 2 yr old sister around in the kitchen earlier. She's now washing 2yr old and 4 yr sisters in the bath whilst Ifanny about on MN an busy.

DD spent hours (on her last evening before leaving for Uni) giving DS pointers on "How to write an A* essay for English Lit Coursework".
(She had not read the book so could not actually write it for him before anyone shouts "cheating")

DD also prefers working at the Teen playclubs to the younger ones, as they are naughty but funny!

DS offers up "a cup of tea or anything else" every night - and at 14 he still insists on snuggling up for a cuddle on the sofa every night before bed

I have never had any real trouble with mine. The occassional hormonal remarks from DD and terrible bedrooms etc, but no trouble.

I love my kids

I meet some lovely teenager at the community cafe I work out of one day a week. Both explelled from school but one wants to be a counceller for teenagers so they dont end up like her, the other in catering and he is brill with the kids that come in.
TBH Im rarely scarced of the teenagers here

I am driving DD1 (15) to an event tomorrow which is at least a two and a half hour drive each way and I'm looking forward to the journey because we'll have a great chance to catch up in peace. I have a lot more fun with my DDs as they get older. DD2 is slightly more challenging as she is more prone to the moods and door slamming, but in between those she's still lovely.

This is such a lovely thread. I am a secondary teacher and by far the majority of my students are like this which is why I LOVE my job (and its not a great school). The horrors really are few and far between.

ds1 18is upstairs with dh playing consul games i can hear them laughing and chatting ds2 is in his room next to ds2 16(sn) is in his room listening to music he had just had huge plate of pasta bolegnaise and a yoghurt to which he emptied in a small packet of Milky Bar buttons and is a very happy boy they are both brilliant!!! and i love them so so much

My teen and ex teens are really nice too.

We have had our moments certainly but on the whole are lovely and good company. Poor DS2 (nearly 14) is stuck at home with just me and DH but we have a good laugh about it and I think he secretly enjoys being 'only child'.

I feel the secret to a good relationship with teens is not to worry about tidying bedrooms......

My eldest(almost 13)has just ushered his bro(9)to watch a film'because Dad's gone out,and Mum needs time to chillax too'and made me a cup of tea before he put a film on.Can hear them chattering and chuckling away.

I help out with scouts sometimes and love it,the characters and the banter between the patrols make it great fun.

Often have 4 teens here and we have some great conversations..when they do talk and not grunt lol!They love coming to see youngest-read as play with the lego and cars.

I have met lots of lovely teens, I love this thread.

DS (12 so not quite a teen but nearly) was writing his cards last Christmas and I noticed him getting a 50p out of his wallet and putting it in one card... I asked him what that was for, and he said "one of the kids in my class, his parents are getting divorced and he keeps crying in school

Still brings a lump to my throat.

The other week, got home from a long day at work, DH had very bad flu and was fast asleep on the sofa. DS made my dinner (very accomplished cheese omelette and toast).

Love him.

I love this thread I hated been stereotyped when I was a bit younger just because I was a teen! I love working with teens too, such great fun! I remember PGLing it last year and having the 'indies' come in during the summer hols and my last week in october, such good fun with the 13-16's

13 year old ds (who does his best to avoid being seen with me in public)still sits on my lap (and dh's)and enjoys a cuddle when there is no chance that anybody else might see

Oh neonladybird your son sounds lovely! My DS1 is 12 too and being rather teenage at times with the eye-rolling etc. But he is also (and more often) completely lovely and so interesting. I love it when he is genuinely funny and I get glimpses of what he might be like as a man.

Love the title on discussions of the day - Teenage Fanclub is my favourite band; sorely underrated and unappreciated IMVHO!
