Son has ordered something suspicious by post

He’s 18. It’s disguised as choc squares and obviously it’s an illegal substance. He’s away atm. I had gut feel from recent conversations and from the shape and feel of package and opened it. I don’t usually open other people’s post of course but this is my son’s welfare, also my money and my home address. I’m trying to work out best approach to deal with this. Any advice? It’s the first time he’s done this.

Some people on here are off their rockers. Drug gangs coming to your house?! What absolute tosh. The vast majority of drugs these days are delivered unwittingly by royal mail!
Op you can buy magic mushroom chocolate online quite easily, no dark Web required.

MeridianB · 17/02/2023 21:20

OP just a thought but if he used his or your credit/debit card or shared bank details online to buy this, you might want to check accounts.

Chocolatefreak · 17/02/2023 21:21

It sounds like CBD chocolate, which is completely legal.

BadNomad · 17/02/2023 21:22

The irony of caring about privacy now..

Elderflower14 · 17/02/2023 21:24

Wouldn't it be hilarious if he had actually bought a "normal" bar of chocolate for his Mum!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣

3WildOnes · 17/02/2023 21:25

It sounds like it is completely legal then. I have mushroom coffee that I buy online and is also completel legal. Sounds like you need to apologise to him!

BadNomad · 17/02/2023 21:25

Maybe he did buy it for her. Maybe he was planning to secretly microdose her to chill out.

This is nt something to make light of

this is potentially life changing for the whole family

I hope for your sake he "gets away with it" OP, but that doesnt change the fact he has put his whole family in danger without any care on consideration

Does he have any sort of SEND? asking because this is more usual in younger teens, by 18 most have more sense

Huh??!!!

MissMaple82 · 17/02/2023 21:32

Mumsnetters are f###ing batshit!

MissMaple82 · 17/02/2023 21:35

SpangledShambles · 17/02/2023 20:58

Because he is at school and the only money he has is from his allowance from me.

So it's his money!!

What? OP gives it to him, it's her bloody money. If I gave money to someone and they spent it on a load of bollocks they'd not get another penny.

I think you should stop watching Top Boy.

never heard of topboy, but it sounds like some sort of fiction, and I am talking about real life

Cocobutt · 17/02/2023 21:45

He’s been talking about the ‘benefits’ of micro dosing endlessly recently.

I’d ask him what the benefits are and be genuinely interested.

Then find ways that he can get these benefits elsewhere eg exercising, eating certain foods etc.

ok, so I will explain that to my year 10 tutee when I next see him, the whole situation is a load of tosh, and it didnt happen

o wait, I cant, sorry

I dont see him any more

cos his family have had to leave the area for their own protection, after he was stabbed in the thigh as a "warning" that they were not being compliant enough

So that is a whole family leaving jobs and schools and having their lives turned upside down by a totally imaginary situation, was it?

Sux2buthen · 17/02/2023 22:25

I rarely actually laugh on here but too boy and monosodium glutamate made me audibly chuckle

No one is saying it's imaginary. They are saying that sort of stuff simply doesn't happen from ordering edibles online. Which is clearly what has happened here.

Grin this thread literally is Mumsnet gold with the obligatory disgusted of Tunbridge Wells posts

GoldDuster · 17/02/2023 23:42

You can live around them in your house, or you can move out

Well this would save him having to order it online 🤣

@Nimbostratus100 never in the history of Etsy had anyone had a gang of drug dealers move into their house and take over their life because they bought some mushroom chocolate.

Not saying that these things don't happen, but OP can sleep peacefully in her bed safe in that knowledge that she's not going to come downstairs to a gang operation round her kitchen table and Sarah Lancashire peering through her window.

Kerfuffler · 17/02/2023 23:53

My mate's cousin ordered some CBD oil from what they thought was a reputable company; they've since had their home swamped by Holland and Barret workers and iswd as storage for crates of evening primrose oil capsules and sossmix. They could live around it all for the most part but apparently it's a nightmare getting chance to use the bathroom of a morning.

anon9492059495 · 17/02/2023 23:55

You have nothing to worry about with edibles relating to magic mushrooms. They are milder than consuming mushrooms directly, and they don't cause harm.

Microdosing is being trialled to treat a lot of issues such as depression and anxiety. If he intends to microdose it sounds like he is doing this for wellness benefits, not to get high and see the bushes waving at him :-)

Name changed - don't want to out myself for the knowledge!

Well I guess the coroner didn't get the memo or misread the report

Good job employers don’t have that view….. pocket money/allowance is their money surely
