Son has ordered something suspicious by post

He’s 18. It’s disguised as choc squares and obviously it’s an illegal substance. He’s away atm. I had gut feel from recent conversations and from the shape and feel of package and opened it. I don’t usually open other people’s post of course but this is my son’s welfare, also my money and my home address. I’m trying to work out best approach to deal with this. Any advice? It’s the first time he’s done this.

Apologise for eating his chocolate and see how he reacts

Genius

its called "nesting" or "cuckkooing"

Cuckooing is when a vulnerable person has their home taken over by drug users, this tends to happen if/when the vulnerable person is already a drug user themselves or has other issues such mental health problems, intellectual disablities, are emotionally and/or financially vulnerable. How do I know this? long years of working in commissioning drug and alcohol services, working in drug services including in the Criminal Justice system and over a decade working in mental health. In one particularly horrible incident we had a very vulnerable and lonely patient whose house was gradually taken over by drug users who befriended them, They turned it into a crack house but it was a slow and drawn out process, Hardly think this is going to happen because someone's offspring has a had a package with as yet unspecified contents arrive by mail!

FatSealSmugSoup · 17/02/2023 20:38

What “evidence” are these gangs holding against internet shoppers? I ask because I bought edibles (I suspect from a mn-er) and if someone turned up at my door and said “let us in or we’re telling the fuzz you bought gummy bears” I’d laugh my socks off. I wouldn’t expect the police to do anything more than roll their eyes at me.

LilLilLi · 17/02/2023 20:38

Nimbostratus100 · 17/02/2023 19:46

no I am not, I am speaking from long experience

typically, the house is visited and checked out, and if the gang thinks this is a promising area to set up a new branch, they simply move in, by force

This is how they operate

How do you think drugs gangs expand into new areas?

You can live around them in your house, or you can move out

Oh come on, they’re not setting up trap houses in your average 3 bed semi in suburbia.

This is literally my job - they move into homes of vulnerable people, mostly single occupants and usually those that are addicted to drugs and it’s NEVER the top dealers living in trap houses, it’s the kids they recruit.

You are being a bit over dramatic, it’s edibles not a kilo or crack. Nobody is taking over the OP’s home.

TempyBrennan · 17/02/2023 20:38

Have you actually opened it all up? Or just the envelope and looking at a box of chocolates?

LilLilLi · 17/02/2023 20:38

Kilo of*

lailamaria · 17/02/2023 20:39

yk it could just be sex chocolate with an aphrodisiac in, that's also an option, just to make you all aware

Axahooxa · 17/02/2023 20:40

Could be msg if mushroom chocolate

Axahooxa · 17/02/2023 20:41

That was a Freudian typo- sorry

BamBamBilla · 17/02/2023 20:43

Monosodium glutamate?

fuckupthenight · 17/02/2023 20:45

justasking111 · 17/02/2023 19:12

When you think you've heard everything.

Lost a customer who accelerated into a tree. He was having a flashback three weeks after a magic mushroom weekend. It's stored in the liver apparently.

🙄🙄🙄 we knew this was bullshit as 16 year olds

Kerfuffler · 17/02/2023 20:46

BamBamBilla · 17/02/2023 20:43

Monosodium glutamate?

I've been told snorting that really stings.

Justmeandthedog1 · 17/02/2023 20:46

It’s your house and if you suspect illegal substances coming into your house you have every right to open the package and see what it is. Your house, your rules. I told my children if I they ever brought drugs into the house I’d call the police and hand them over with whatever it was.

greydon · 17/02/2023 20:47

Definitely send him a message telling him you ate it

shrumps · 17/02/2023 20:48

I would just throw it away if I be was worried. If he wants to buy weed or whatever he does it without involving my address.

FatSealSmugSoup · 17/02/2023 20:48

greydon · 17/02/2023 20:47

But if it’s sex chocolate it’ll traumatise the lad picturing his mother in “that state”.

Curriedpeanuts · 17/02/2023 20:49

If customs pick up on it they will alert the police. Depending what else is going on in the background, they could decide to execute a search warrant, that will take place whether your son is home or not.

underneaththeash · 17/02/2023 20:49

I’d stick it in the bin. (I have a later ago teen too)

SunnySnowdrop · 17/02/2023 20:53

Why is it obviously an illegal substance?

Wonnle · 17/02/2023 20:54

You should get a job with HM Revenue and Customs if you can tell something is illegal just by feeling it through some packaging !

lailamaria · 17/02/2023 20:55

oh yeah scare the kid into thinking he might have harmed his mum, i really hope it's just either normal chocolate or sex chocolate and op stops being so suspicious of her son

Pickingmyselfup · 17/02/2023 20:56

How do you know it's illegal though unless you've opened it and it says on it?

I've bought chilli chocolate from Amazon, had it been from a different shop it could have been packaged differently so that it was clearly chocolate but impossible to say what kind.

Brefugee · 17/02/2023 20:57

how is it your money?
Nevertheless, you shouldn't be opening other people's post.

When he gets back ask him what it is, and stop giving him money to spend on whatever it is.

SpangledShambles · 17/02/2023 20:57

Hi, thanks for all responses. I didn’t realise I’d get so many. He’s been talking about the ‘benefits’ of micro dosing endlessly recently. The package was small, grey plastic and with a small object in it. I know my ds very well and knew it was something like this. Inside the package were two tiny rectangle sachets each saying ‘Tiny Maxatec Salted Caramel Chocolate’. Clearly, if it was chocolate, he can buy that from the shops! Why get two tiny squares sent to him. There’s been a lot of good advice on here which I appreciate thank you.

Because he is at school and the only money he has is from his allowance from me.
