I found a sex toy under 17yo bed!

I'm in complete shock, I just can not believe it. It went to flip over DDs mattress while stripping her bed as there was a huge coffee stain on the mattress, i scrubbed at it and decided to just flip the mattress as DD was moaning it stank of coffee.

When I lifted the mattress I found a sex toy! She is 17 years old so I know she is past the age of consent, but I didn't think you could buy anything like this until you were 18 years old! I don't know if to be mad or question how's she's bought it, I also don't want to humiliate her. I'm just so shocked and don't know how to go about it. Do I just leave it and forget or do I confront her? She does have a boyfriend as well. I haven't told DH as I'm scared of how he would react. The thought of it does make me feel quite sick. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? Hmm

You are supposed to be 18 to buy a vibrator but don't go marching into Ann summers and getting some sales assistant sacked for not asking for id ffs she's 17 not 12.

GoldilocksAndTheThreePears · 09/08/2018 17:38

I think I'm the only one finding it odd a 17 year old still has mummy changing the bed for them :D

Rebecca36 · 09/08/2018 17:40

There are a lot of people on Mumsnet who think sexual pleasure is a matter of mechanics - for most women (& many men), it isn't. So many crude posters on here, I wonder if they are real.

I've managed to enjoy sex without any artificial aids and so have a lot of others. It's nice to talk to girls about love and affection but if your girl has a sex toy, say nothing to her about that, she was only experimenting.

IDontEatFriedTurtle · 09/08/2018 17:45

Why is it illegal to sell sex toys to under 18s?

Confused

Enjoying orgasms isn't MN specific.

im bemused by people thinking there is something wrong with a 17 year old having a wank. Loads of women cant wank without a vibrator, and I think masturbation is essential for knowing how to seperate sex from love and for being able to have a decent sex life you need to know how to do it yourself. Give the girl some privacy.

AimeeJx · 09/08/2018 18:18

I had an electric toothbrush down the side of my bed from 14

Branleuse · 09/08/2018 18:41

nobody would be losing their head over discovering a 17 year old boy wanked

AimeeJx · 09/08/2018 18:42

^ This

Moussemoose · 09/08/2018 18:49

There are lots of used tissues in my Sixteen year old son's bedroom!Shock

I'm scared to tell my DH I don't know how he will react.

I'm shocked to think my baby might be wanking.

He might be at 5 or 6 times a day.

At least he gets the tissues in the bin which is more than his brother ever didConfused

SimonBridges · 09/08/2018 18:51

She’s 17.
It’s legal for her to have actual real sex.

Pannalash · 09/08/2018 18:53

Complete over reaction. Don’t mention it.

SchrodingersMeowth · 09/08/2018 18:57

I was another who had one when I was younger. I don’t actually understand how you can be shocked to discover that your 17 year old masturbates!

And some people can’t orgasm without one, so...

Just forget you ever saw it, there’s nothing wrong with it and it’s not like she’s 13 and has one.

IDontEatFriedTurtle · 09/08/2018 19:18

I wish I had one when I was 17. I'd have been far too embarrassed. I did, however, become very friendly with the shower head. Blush

Dilligaf81 · 09/08/2018 19:21

You are massively over reacting. Your daughter has a sex life and tbh I would be proud she was satisfying herself and knowing what she wanted. I think the fact you don't want to tell you DH because of his reaction is pathetic as well.

LemonysSnicket · 09/08/2018 19:23

I had one at that age, she's 17 and it won't get her pregnant.
And if you walk into a sex shop with confidence they don't ID you as they thing teens would be scared

AfterSchoolWorry · 09/08/2018 19:26

Is there an age limit on sex toys?

I never knew that!

ellms · 09/08/2018 20:14

I think some people are only reading OPs first post and not some of her further posts.

Emmageddon · 09/08/2018 21:56

FFS, how would the DD know this thread was about her? She doesn't even know her mother found the vibrator. There's millions of people with 17yo DDs

Not many people who still change their 17yo daughter's bedding/have an an overprotective husband/a very prudish reaction to teenagers being sexually active/a vibrator hidden under the mattress

But hey, patronise away.

downinthejunglee · 10/08/2018 09:50

@AimeeJx a toothbrushShock surely that would hurt?Blush

Branleuse · 10/08/2018 09:53

you dont use the bristles to wank with. HTH

MaMisled · 10/08/2018 09:54

I feel your pain op. I recently found similar under my 18 year old DDS mattress. I too felt shocked and weirdly upset but pushed it from my mind. They grow up!

downinthejunglee · 10/08/2018 10:04

@Branleuse ahh

adoggymama · 10/08/2018 10:19

You're overreacting. You can buy them online at any age & most Anne Summers won't question you!

I brought my first at 17 too. I'm 19 now. Don't humiliate her like my mother did me.

Moussemoose · 10/08/2018 11:53

I can't get over people being 'shocked'. I would be delighted my daughter enjoyed masturbation. Knowledge of your own body and how you orgasm will improve her sex life throughout her life.

It just shows how deep seated society's fear of sexual women is. A women who controls her sexuality is a threat and a shock.
