In my life i'm going through a pretty crap time.
Driving home today on the motorway I saw a bunny! Looks like a dalmation. And I stopped in a no stop/no hard shoulder bit, got out, grabbed him and got back in the car. Then had to drive home with a rabbit sitting in the passenger footwell.
I'm in love! anyway dp is furious about me picking it up - please help me show him that any animal lover would do that!.....i'm not nuts, am I?

What? You kidnapped a bunny from the wild? Shock Sad

That's cruel.

Lagoonablue · 10/05/2014 22:48

A wild rabbit? Why would you do that?

SavoyCabbage · 10/05/2014 22:49

You are nuts! Your dp is right.

You can't take a rabbit that you see by the road! Take it back.

JokersGiggle · 10/05/2014 22:50

Should mention that I took him to the vets - he's had the snip, is clear of fleas ect and had a micro chip. They contacted the owners and they said "I f..cking dumped him cos I don't f..cking want it anymore"
SO HE'S MINE!!!! ALL MINE!!!!!
Put him in my spare indoor Guinea pig cage til tomorrow when I can get him a proper house!

I wouldn't have done it, too dangerous to people to behave like that on a motorway

TheWorldAccordingToJC · 10/05/2014 22:50

I'd put it back outside. It'll have all sorts!

Is it tame?

Lagoonablue · 10/05/2014 22:50

Ah. So he is not a wild rabbit then.

scarletforya · 10/05/2014 22:50

Tomorrow go and put it back just in case it's family is missing it.

TheWorldAccordingToJC · 10/05/2014 22:51

Oh a real bunny then. A pet one!

A bit bonkers but hey why not?

TheWorldAccordingToJC · 10/05/2014 22:51

Who chips a rabbit?!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/05/2014 22:53

You stopped on the motorway? You are damned lucky you didn't cause an accident! If you had been seen by the police or CCTV, you could get into trouble for it.

What you did was nuts, and a wild rabbit will not be happy living in a hutch.

Kewcumber · 10/05/2014 22:53

setting aside for the moment the wisdom of stopping in a non-stopping area and the potential cruelty of trying to domesticate a wild animal, I'd take him down the vet pretty swiftish as I understand that wild rabbits are prone to carrying a number of diseases and are usually riddled with fleas.

Gileswithachainsaw · 10/05/2014 22:53

Was going to say it's either extremely sick or a pet of you actually managed to catch it.

Poor baby bastard owners :(

Give him a home!

Kewcumber · 10/05/2014 22:53

cross posted

Why not say up front he was a discarded pet? Confused

LettertoHerms · 10/05/2014 22:54

A bunny!

A tame, pet bunny, who was unwanted. And yes, I would assume if I saw a bunny that looked like that, he was an escaped pet, as wild rabbits look completely different than bred rabbits.

He's yours! Yay! Ignore DP. Have you kept a rabbit before? They are a lot of work, do lots of research on proper care.

I luff bunnies. I want one desperately, just need space for it.

hmc · 10/05/2014 22:54

Yes you were stupid to do that on a motorway - put yourself at risk, and others potentially

NameChangeAnon · 10/05/2014 22:55

So you rescued an abandoned pet. Lucky rabbit to have you pass by and be willing to stop.

I assume you are capable of risk assessments and it was safe to do so. Everyone seems to have survived Smile congress on your new pet and I hope the old owner grows a boil on their bum.

iK8 · 10/05/2014 22:56

Needlessly stopping on the motorway is a fucking stupid thing to do. You could have caused a serious accident.

Were you high?

scarletforya · 10/05/2014 22:57

Ooh! Keep it then poor thing!

Casmama · 10/05/2014 22:57

People go to the trouble of micro chipping a rabbit then decide they don't want it so leave it at the side of the motorway and you are such an animal lover that you risk causing an accident to pick it up??? All seems a little unlikely.

MimsyBorogroves · 10/05/2014 22:57

Yes, you did a silly thing - however hand on heart I would have really had to force myself not to do the same had I seen an obviously dumped animal. People are absolute bastards. I can't understand why some people think it's okay to let a domesticated animal free into the wild to fend for itself. I only hope it made its own way to the motorway rather than being abandoned there to reach its fate.

Gileswithachainsaw · 10/05/2014 23:00

cas it's perfectly possible it belonged to the husband/wife/teenage dd/Ds who left or went to uni and then parent/husband decides he can't be arsed any more.

Isabeller · 10/05/2014 23:02

Bunny's from heaven (to cheer you up in your encrapment) Grin

OneStepCloser · 10/05/2014 23:13

Acorn chipped bunny? Really?

OneStepCloser · 10/05/2014 23:13

Gah, a micro chipped
