In my life i'm going through a pretty crap time.
Driving home today on the motorway I saw a bunny! Looks like a dalmation. And I stopped in a no stop/no hard shoulder bit, got out, grabbed him and got back in the car. Then had to drive home with a rabbit sitting in the passenger footwell.
I'm in love! anyway dp is furious about me picking it up - please help me show him that any animal lover would do that!.....i'm not nuts, am I?

You can get pet insurance for bunnies too

I was excited a posted, then thought of stuff to add. Sad just wanted people to share my excitement Sad
I've kept bunnies before. He was prob dumped cos he's (by the vets guess) oldish. Also most likely dumped recently as he's not too thin and looks bright eyed.
He licks my hand when I stroke him so think someone must have loved him once.
It was 2pm, really quiet motorway. I couldn't leave him to be a bunny-pancake Sad he was right by the edge! And he didn't move or struggle when I picked him up, just looked at me with his little dark eyes and perfect little nose twitched.
I know I can do silly things and am a bit ditzy but even I wouldn't tackle and abduct a wild rabbit (and realistically I don't think it would even be possible to get hold of one....they move fast!)

Miles, cos he's done lots of them

Miles made me giggle!

Really OP, you did a nice thing. Obviously you didn't cause an accident, and you saved the life of an abandoned pet. MNers tonight are looking for something to jump on.

Any interesting street names around where you found him? You could use one of those. Posting a picture would help with name suggestions if you can.

I like naming small furry animals after punk rockers. Johnny Rotten, DeeDee Ramone...

I've never heard of micro-chipping a rabbit!

But I'd do the same in your position.

Can we have a pic please? I like bunnies a lot.
How about Rover?

Joker I did once stop my car (on a B road though not a motorway) because I saw a large cardboard box on a grass verge. I HAD To go and peer in it because the number of times I've read "found dumped in a box" on Rescue sites.
And this grass verge was in a fairly busy area.

Thankfully, it was empty and no sign of anything having been in the box.

All the time I'm walking there I'm thinking "Don't be guinea-pigs" because I keep 2 boars and there's no way I'd leave them there.

Kittens/puppies I'd take to a Rescue though.

Lucky. Possibly as a middle name, but the one you use as his first name is Bloody.

Vets will micro chip anything as long as you pay! My Guinea pigs are micro chipped ( had to be a certain weight first though)
Im thinking of Brum, after a kids TV program about a car. My Guinea pigs are "moomin" and "little mi" after another TV program (I seem to have watched a lot of TV when I was younger!)
But he looks like a miles I think.
Trying to take a photo but he's under wooden sticks asleep and don't want to disturb him, poor baby needs his rest Smile .
Can anyone remember what the little boy in the moomins is called? He scruffy one who wore green.

Well done you for rescuing him. Horrible, horrible bastards who dumped him rather than even taking him to a rescue disgust me. He's very lucky you came along. Well done.

Ha ha at people thinking you'd kidnapped a wild rabbit! I'd take my hat off to anyone who managed to catch one....
That was a lovely thing to do. Poor thing would almost certainly have been squished if you hadn't stopped and rescued him.

I googled The Moomins (never seen it) there's a character called "Snork" you could pinch that.

How did you manage to persuade the guineas to be chipped ? Mine don't even like having their nails clipped Grin

Brilliant! He is now snufkin. Fits well as I saved him from snuffing it! And he matches me girls Smile . Just caught dp checking in on him so don't think he's as against him as he's making out Smile .

The other day dp was trying to comfort me and said "when one door closes another door opens" ..... Don't think he meant a motorway bunny but I'll take whatever I can get!

My Guineas will do anything for a bit of dill lol. And moomin loves one particular Vet, he could do anything to her and she'd still look at him adoringly (little slut lol).

Well done, yes it was a bit potentially dangerous stopping where you did, but it turned out well and now Snufkin has a good home.

Bastard previous owners don't deserve to have petsAngry

Pleases make sure you give him/her plenty of room to run around and graze. It breaks my heart when I see bunnies confined to a hutch all day...they need to be able to run jump and binky!

Report
JokersGiggle · 11/05/2014 00:12

I could possibly...maybe.........perhaps.... be sympathetic if they said they couldn't afford him anyone or some other reason. But to just say they didn't want "it" anymore was horrible.
And no excuse for just dumping him. There is a lovely rescue place 10 mins drive from where a found him (though he could have hopped to the motorway from somewhere else).

Unfortunately, people think if they release a pet rabbit , he'll find wild rabbit friends Hmm Sad .
Your bunny was probably a childs pet at one stage.............and we know what happens to them Sad
