In my life i'm going through a pretty crap time.
Driving home today on the motorway I saw a bunny! Looks like a dalmation. And I stopped in a no stop/no hard shoulder bit, got out, grabbed him and got back in the car. Then had to drive home with a rabbit sitting in the passenger footwell.
I'm in love! anyway dp is furious about me picking it up - please help me show him that any animal lover would do that!.....i'm not nuts, am I?

Is he neutered? If not he probably needs doing especially as he will be a house bunny. Sounds like he was marking his territory which is normal male bun behaviour but stops after neutering. Rabbit urine can smell awful and looks brownish. Mention it to the vet while you're there but it sounds like he is marking you as 'his'Confused

Grin at people thinking a black and white spotted rabbit was wild! Good for you OP. I rescued a lone duckling once and ended up keeping it. Successfully released it in my village where it happily lived with the other ducks but was still very tame and used to approach people in the pub garden for food!

My last bunny was 10yrs ago and a lovely little girl. So have no idea what snuf has just done! I'm covered in smelly spray!
Just come in from having my highlights done and he's hopped all over me which made me smell a bit but now he's just covered in in a really acrid smelling spray from his rear end. Its really strong and I can't get it to go. Is that normal? Should I mention when at vets later for test results?
He doesn't smell at all! Just me! I really really stink!

Haha I was expecting snuf to be a bit bad....he played up a bit for the male vet nurse but love the vet who was a woman. Think he's a boob loving bunny lol he kept snuggling into her front!
I always thought I was a Guinea pig person rather than a bunny one....turns out i'm both!

Sounds like Snufkin has done pretty well for himself! I miss my house bunny so much and would have done the same as you.

I love good bunny people, they are a special brand of crazy.

I never reveal vets bills to DHSmile.

Glad he's doing well. Any chance he could speak to my Current Bun about 'appropriate behaviour at the vets' as he sounds like an angel. Current Bun has notes on his file at our vets warning them about his behaviourConfused. He is so naughty.

Wow in the last 24hrs snuf has cost me £350!!! (hutch and vets, not including food!) But worth every penny. They took xrays to check his joints ect (he just chilled out so didn't need sedating!), took blood to check all his levels and see if he's has vaccinations recently, changed details on his chip, checked his ears, eyes ect, took skin samples to see if he has lice ect, checked all over for ticks and loads of other stuff. So far he's looking good, just a little stiff in his left hip but we don't know if he's knocked it recently but nothing showed up on xray so that's good.
I've asked for blood results back soon (and paid extra) so we'll know tomorrow, want vaccs sorted asap so he can play outside, and to see if he has anything we need to deal with. Don't want him to be harbouring something that could make him ill.
Love him so much, even dp loves him now.....but we won't be telling him how much that bill was!

Ask if they are discounting for rabbit awareness week :)

I left that up to the vets, they can take action if they want.
I've booked him in for a full health check today, anyone know approx how much it will cost?

Have the original owners who abandoned him been reported? Sounds like they admitted what they did to the vet so it should be an easy case to prove.

Yay Snifkin Grin. Hope he behaves at the vets and gets a clean bill of health.

Great that he's eating well, he must be happy with you. He really did land on his paws - what a lucky bunny.

Snifkin update , he's very happy in his new cage. Was a bit confused by the ramp to go to the bottom story but got there in the end. We're off to the vets today to find out about vaccinations. He's eating me out of house and home lol which is good cos the vet wants him to put a bit of weight on.

The comments at the top made me laugh too as was trying to imagine a load of Dalmation look a like bunnies running round the fields. If they are there, they are very well hidden as I've only ever seen their brown cousins

Well done OP, he clearly has landed on his paws when he hopped precariously close to the cars, sounds like it was meant to be.

I couldnt believe the comments at the start of this thread it was obviously a domestic bunny from the OP and a microchipped rabbit is not uncommon at all. I foster rabbits for the local rescue and they all get microchipped before they leave us. Well done for rescuing him I'd have done the same. Hope he has a lovely time living with you, from your set up sounds like he will be very happy.

How is Snufkin settling in?

Report
Gileswithachainsaw · 11/05/2014 14:38

I know funny

:o

Plus had it been a wild rabbit the fact she caught it meant it would have been very ill. The vet would have PTS saving poor thing from suffering.

There was no way that bunny would have lost out

FunnyFoot · 11/05/2014 14:36

I loved the way the OP has been accused of bunny-napping a wild black and white spotted rabbit! Yeah cos there are loads of them just hopping around with their lop eared bunny mates in the wild.

I am pleased you rescued him OP and I hope you and your furry family have a hoppy future Grin

If he's pooing in one spot put a litter tray there with wooden pellet based litter in it. PAH do a bunny one but most supermarkets do a cat litter which is the same and cheaper. Once he's got used to using the litter try in his chosen spot you cAn move it to where you want it to be although this can take time. When you first put the litter tray down put some of his poops in there so it smells of him.
