Cant stop vaping

I’m so annoyed at myself I’ve got in a habit of vaping whilst wfh, and now I’m really struggling to kick the habit. I go through days of buying them then running them under the tap to stop myself ☹️

I’m an ex smoker from circa 20 years ago so hate the habit and think it’s horrible 😞

Any tips for quitting/Reducing down? I only like the elf bars so its not as if I’ll use any but I’m getting so annoyed at myself 🙁🙁🙁

I know what you mean, I used to hate those 'Vuse' vapes, and one I bought from Iceland, can't recall the make, tasted like a car air freshener. I chucked it in the bin because it was nauseating. The only ones I really liked were Lost Marys Cola and Blue Razz.

Well done to all of those who have kept off it, I'm so disappointed in myself.

Well done

at home, I think I can maybe try knitting or something?

at work, less so!

I've no idea how I got into this. One plus is that I have realised I don't really like many flavours, though I seem to have confused the heck out of my taste buds.

I got chatting to a really inspiring woman at the gym last night. So much fitter and stronger than I could be...or maybe not, I've affected my workouts doing this.

NoMoreVaping · 16/10/2023 11:56

Maybe we need a substitute for vape time? Like even a ten minute music break? I'm actually going to take my headphones outside and just listen to a couple of songs.

Findyourneutralspace · 16/10/2023 12:07

I plan to stop soon too, so I’m marking my place. I feel ridiculous, a 46 year old woman with an elf bar, not to mention the cost to my purse and the environment.
I’ve massively cut back my alcohol intake recently so I’m going to use some of those strategies - my favourite is playing a little puzzle game on my phone.

AInightingale · 16/10/2023 12:35

It's embarrassing, isn't it @Findyourneutralspace? Especially in shops. I am 51 and the thought of asking for a 'blue razz' anything was humiliating. My mother was probably buying the People's Friend at my age.

NoMoreVaping · 16/10/2023 14:09

I can't see why older people would be embarrassed.

but I did feel a bit ashamed buying the odd pack of smokes, especially if the guy behind the counter knows me from the gym (happened in Tesco a couple of times). That said, we have a ballet dancer training at our gym and he reckons lots of dancers smoke.

Blue Razz seems to be an in joke among vapers? What does it taste like?

It's cold out today which is good, that puts me off going out to vape, I also worry it looks unprofessional.

I do have a headache though.

AInightingale · 16/10/2023 14:17

It tastes like something you would have bought in a sweetshop when you were five.

The headache is probably just nicotine withdrawal?

I'm just surprised to have nicotine withdrawal if I'm really on the equivalent of 3 to 5 smokes. I honestly wonder if it's withdrawal from something else in the vapes.

AInightingale · 16/10/2023 14:28

You could test it out. Poundland sell nicotine gum for £3.50 for a small packet, see if it helps the headache - if not, must be something else then.

stopitstopitnooow · 16/10/2023 14:33

I've just run mine under the tap. Want rid of it now. I too am embarrassed by it, and I'm sure vaping increases my anxiety, possibly because of the shame I feel.

I bought gum yesterday, it gave me hiccups

I'll try it again when I get home but the headache is fading now anyway.

Slightly different viewpoint here, posting as the partner of a very long term nicotine user :). Started many years ago on cigarettes, then vape to replace them, then Nictotine tabs you put on your gums (!).

A few weeks ago he took the VERY hard decision of going cold turkey off the tabs (x4 a day) and any other nicotine and I’m
so proud of him. He knew he would just get hooked on patches etc if he used them instead and the nicotine use would never end.

He’s had so many physical withdrawal side effects, the brain fog was awful (and he’s got a high pressured, senior job so this was really concerning for a bit!), and he’s still really missing this crutch that he used when stressed, under pressure, tired etc. trying to replace with meditation, exercise, relaxing baths etc but very hard going. Also trying not to eat too much sugar or have too much caffeine either which is at risk of drastically increasing! Just wanted to send huge words of support to everyone trying to do this! Keep going it is possible! (And now he does have long periods of time when he doesn’t think about the tabs at all which is a miracle considering his complete dependence 2.5 weeks ago)

stopitstopitnooow · 17/10/2023 14:50

Nearly 24 hours in. Easy peasy, that is, until I go away near a pub with friends....

AInightingale · 17/10/2023 17:51

Do not go to that bar! Wait a few days. Alcohol will break your willpower. When I gave up actual smoking, it was still permitted inside places and that was SOOO hard.

I gave up cigarettes about a week after the ban!

AInightingale · 17/10/2023 19:18

That's why I'm hoping disposable vapes will be banned soon. Honestly I don't think as many people can be arsed buying rechargeable devices and cartridges. The temptation to buy a quick disposable in shops will also be gone.

stopitstopitnooow · 17/10/2023 19:28

I'd love to see them banned. I'd never bother with refillable ones

stopitstopitnooow · 18/10/2023 09:36

Who else is still on the wagon?

NoMoreVaping · 18/10/2023 11:50

Fell off again

pavillion1 · 18/10/2023 14:30

im still on ... Treated myself to a new coat today with the money saved ...
Come on you lot .

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 18/10/2023 14:45

A relative of mine for off them by lowering the strength for ages, then lowering the times used. They worked on dissociating occasions with vaping. That did seem to work.

pavillion1 · 29/11/2023 17:07

Thought id check in quickly . How's everyone getting on . I've managed to stay off them . Think ive gained a good stone in the process.
