Cant stop vaping

Cantstopvaping · 27/07/2023 17:07

I’m so annoyed at myself I’ve got in a habit of vaping whilst wfh, and now I’m really struggling to kick the habit. I go through days of buying them then running them under the tap to stop myself ☹️

I’m an ex smoker from circa 20 years ago so hate the habit and think it’s horrible 😞

Any tips for quitting/Reducing down? I only like the elf bars so its not as if I’ll use any but I’m getting so annoyed at myself 🙁🙁🙁

Pavilion "I was noticeably more out of breath during exercise then anyone else"

embarrassed to say I noticed this at the gym but somehow inner demons ignored that crucial information.

I'm happy to join in, such a waste of money even though I enjoy the cool mint flavour. Started vaping during a stressful time to calm my nerves.

AInightingale · 08/10/2023 12:21

One disposable vape per day in one year - approx. £2000. Write it on a post-it and stick it on a wall somewhere...

MrsSlocombesCat · 08/10/2023 12:56

I use vape pens so it doesn’t cost me much at all and I have no plans to stop anytime soon. I have to watch my diet and my alcohol intake so vaping is the last crutch have. I gave up smoking 16 years ago and used Microtabs for a few years before I discovered vaping, which is much cheaper and far more satisfying. If you’re not keen on vape pens maybe switching will help you stop, because you can gradually reduce the nicotine if you want until there’s 0.

AInightingale · 08/10/2023 13:02

That's okay @MrsSlocombesCat if you enjoy it and aren't spending much. However the people on this thread are struggling with things like cost, fitness/breathing problems, fast heart rate and just general health concerns, the long term consequences of vaping are unknown really.

NoMoreVaping · 08/10/2023 13:54

Feeling much better today

Oddly bloated in spite of not eating much but there's probably all sorts of stuff my body needs to get rid of.

how are others getting on?

Really misses the point of the thread 🤦🏻‍♀️

What are nicotine replacement tablets? Are they the lozenges or something different?

AInightingale · 11/10/2023 16:17

The only ones I've seen are a type of chalky lozenge. They burn a bit in the mouth and give me hiccups.

Allthecatsandcosyblankets · 11/10/2023 16:27

Ah yes I've tried those, kind of like a rennies. I think ill prefer the gum 🤞

Ollifer · 11/10/2023 16:46

Well I fucked it. Managed two days then back on the wagon. Very disappointed and going to try again

AInightingale · 11/10/2023 18:58

Oh crap @Ollifer!! Maybe use something like gum you can slip into your mouth every hour or so. I'm not sure how I would have taken to patches. I have a piece of gum at 6.30 in the morning with a coffee when I wake up, it's a bit shameful but I would have reached for the vape then.

pavillion1 · 11/10/2023 19:01

Im on day 10 , Struggling abit but not so much the nicotine as im not agitated but its like ive lost my right arm .. The second box of patches have been abit rubbish and keep coming loose so although im not climbing the walls , its on my mind more .. Hopefully just a bad day.

its not shameful, i used to do it in bed .. Thats shameful 🤣

AInightingale · 12/10/2023 11:34

4 weeks stopped today, yay. Saved about £150 too I reckon - disposable vapes are a shocking price.

I just keep seeing discarded ones lying all over the place, some in bits where kids have smashed them, and think they are well overdue being banned.

See that's what I find hardest, I vape while drinking coffee. So with the gum do you drink your coffee then vape after or chew the gum while drinking coffee 🤣 as in do you keep the gum in while drinking.

The nicorette inhalator things are great but soooooo expensive! But they are quite like vaping minus the smoke/vapor

AInightingale · 12/10/2023 14:36

Yes I do keep the gum in my mouth even when drinking as it's a bit harsh and the taste of a warm drink mellows it a bit. Tbh I really want to give the gum up as I'm not convinced that swallowing nicotine does your stomach a power of good either (it gives me a bit of wind/hiccups) but I did try to give up a week or so ago when it ran out, and ended up running out to the chemist at 4 30 in the afternoon as I really thought I was losing my sanity. Nicotine is a right bastard in whatever form.

i was going to knock the patches on the head but after reading this il keep going for awhile longer ..
Nicotine really is unpleasant to withdraw from .

pavillion1 · 12/10/2023 17:31

ive bought the lozenges, Hopefully less hassle than the patches

Allthecatsandcosyblankets · 13/10/2023 12:23

Be careful with choosing the right strength of patches guys. I vape 6mg vape liquid and tried the highest strength patches (for people who smoke more than 20 cig a day I think) and I almost collapsed! I went really dizzy, broke out in a cold sweat and thought I was gonna pass out with nausea. Clicked on that it was the patch and after about 10 minutes after I removed it I felt normal again 😮

I think I almost overdosed on Nicotine, I just assumed that because I vape constantly I would need the strongest patch.

I think I'm going to give the gum a go. It's sunny today and this is when I always notice how much smoke/vapor is hanging in the air against the sunlight - scary to think I'm sitting constantly inhaling all that into my lungs. And I smoked before vaping so apart from pregnancy my poor lungs have never had a break. Then I think of people with asthma/long disease etc and feel so disgustingly selfish putting my lungs through this willingly 🫤 nicotine is sooooo bloody addictive it's horrible!

NoMoreVaping · 15/10/2023 10:21

I fell off the wagon ☹️. Thursday and Friday I flew through busy days at work with the help of a vape, just really fancied it yesterday and have woken up with stomach cramps.

Feel a right plum. It's not the nicotine, it's more a psychological thing, and the tastes. i think? I could try 0% but I don't know that inhaling all that other stuff is a good plan.

My sugar cravings have been non existent while I vaped, they are back with a vengeance. Argh.

The flavour I was on when I felt really ill, I smelt a co worker taking one out of it's pack and was immediately transported back to feeling ill.

So that's something.

AInightingale · 15/10/2023 12:45

@NoMoreVaping you wouldn't chuck your shoes out if the laces came undone. Whatever it is, whether it is weight loss, giving up alcohol or smoking/vaping, we are all human and have wobbles.

Tell your co-workers you are trying to give up and get them to support you (they don't sound very supportive opening the damn things in front of you). When I gave up smoking years ago, my colleagues told me off for trying to leave the building during breaks and one bloke used to take out a fiver and pretend to set fire to it. It did help (until I started vaping 20 years later like an idiot).

You are going cold turkey aren't you - that's difficult. Why aren't you using nicotine replacement - it's a hell of a drug and giving it up completely and abruptly is really, really, hard.

NoMoreVaping · 15/10/2023 15:53

Alnightingale oh, I don't take that view...I hot desk, so mostly on nodding hello terms with people, I don't know them well..... but I'd no more say "don't open your vape" than I'd say "don't eat a biscuit in front of me".

I was on another thread where we calculated that I had, through vaping, got myself up to a max of 3 - 5 ciggies per day, so I didn't think any help was needed but I bought some nicotine gum today and now have hiccups!

I didn't smoke regularly before.

NoMoreVaping · 15/10/2023 15:54

If you asked me to vape a flavour I don't like, i'd say no. I wouldn't want it for the nicotine IYSWIM.
