Cant stop vaping

I’m so annoyed at myself I’ve got in a habit of vaping whilst wfh, and now I’m really struggling to kick the habit. I go through days of buying them then running them under the tap to stop myself ☹️

I’m an ex smoker from circa 20 years ago so hate the habit and think it’s horrible 😞

Any tips for quitting/Reducing down? I only like the elf bars so its not as if I’ll use any but I’m getting so annoyed at myself 🙁🙁🙁

So so addictive and I know exactly how you feel

Get to b&m and get nicotine replacement tablets from there such a better price than the pharmacy

Have as many as is allowed on the instructions and you soon get a handle on it

I quit vaping by doing this good luck!

Cantstopvaping · 27/07/2023 17:26

Thank you @BeeBelle16 i will go and get some later, I manage 3 days then punch one of my hubbie 🙁 my will power is awful but I know if I can crack 2-3 weeks I will ditch it. I’ve got back into the gym and am eating healthy again so hoping my healthy habits will give me a dopamine hit elsewhere.

I feel so disappointed in myself 😞

Don't beat yourself up. They are hugely addictive Flowers

JudyGemstone · 29/07/2023 09:46

use them as a cigarette replacement and not an adult dummy.

So stand outside and use it for a couple of mins, then put away. You wouldn’t smoke in your house all day every day so don’t vape like this either.

buy the nicotine free ones. Elf bar do them. Honestly it’s as much habit as actual nicotine craving that keeps you on them.

Hi @Cantstopvaping just wondering if you've been successful since you posted?

I have stopped today - using nicotine gum which is horrible - and I didn't want to create yet another thread. If anyone is in the same boat, could you link in with me for a bit of moral support!?

I'm not craving really but then my kids aren't home from school yet....

I hate how much they cost, and with a ban seeming imminent I think it's the best time to stop. I really don't want to be tempted to buy illegal ones as they're even worse. I don't like vape pens at all so they wouldn't tempt me in the slightest, but I do (DID!) have a fatal weakness for cola flavoured Lost Marys.

Cantstopvaping · 15/09/2023 07:19

@AInightingale i have!! 3/4 weeks in now and using the tablets recommended by @BeeBelle16 it still took me about 4 weeks after posting this to stop. I was chugging on them all day wfh

I think I got to the point where I vaped so much in one day my lungs were screaming at me 😵‍💫

my hubby didn’t get on with the tablets he found them too chalky so used gym, keep at it! You got this!!

Oh thanks for replying and well done. Glad someone has been successful and I bet you've saved a packet. I too gave up smoking 20 yrs ago but took up the vape during a seriously rough patch a few months ago. But I quit smoking and I will quit this!

pavillion1 · 01/10/2023 15:01

Is this thread still active? Im quitting my electronic Cigarette from today im on my last cartridge. Ive bought nicotine patches to start from either tonight or tomorrow.... Im so sick of doing it , Im starting to feel really embarrassed that as a woman of nearly 43 with 2 kids ive got this ridiculous habbit .
If anyone fancies joining me over the next few weeks id appreciate the support.

AInightingale · 01/10/2023 16:58

Hi @pavillion1 good luck with stopping. I've quit the ridiculous habit over two weeks now so v glad about that plus eighty quid better off, I'm sure.

I am using nicotine chewing gum (next stage - quit that). It gives me something to do as well.

Get your e cigarette and all paraphernalia in the bin tonight/when you finish and remove all temptation.

I do actually feel better physically - nothing but fresh air going in my lungs now.

Let us know how you get on.

Thank you , Ive just binned them and puf my first patch on .. I went for a stage 2 patch so hope thats enough. I didn't want to go with the stage 1 patch because that was a higher strength then my cigarette cartridge. 🤷🏻‍♀️

AInightingale · 02/10/2023 15:04

How have your first 24 hours been @pavillion1 ?

pavillion1 · 02/10/2023 20:11

Yes not awful , ive a few occasions of going to reach for it then i have a few minutes of missing it ... It was glued to my hand for nearly 10 years .. I also should of gone with the higher nicotine patch as ive been abit tetchy today 😬

AInightingale · 02/10/2023 20:29

Yes you take in a colossal amount of nicotine when you vape, esp if it's 'glued to your hand' as you say. I bought the higher strength gum and glad I did!

Ollifer · 02/10/2023 21:05

Hi I'm on day one of quitting vaping using the high strength patches. It's been really tough as I usually vape out of habit all the time from when I wake up to when I go to bed! Glad day one is nearly over, I've eaten like a horse.

Hideous isnt it , Well done us for getting through day 1 .

NoMoreVaping · 07/10/2023 21:03

Hi
anyone about

i started a thread in AAIBU explaining I’ve basically made myself ill vaping. Happy to do cold turkey, none since last night. Just wondered how others felt when they realised they needed to stop. I feel quite unwell as in fluey. Hopefully tomorrow will be better

NoMoreVaping · 07/10/2023 21:05

PS if you don’t see the thread, it takes me 3 or 4 days to smoke a disposable but someone has explained that’s a lot of nicotine and I wasn’t a regular smoker before.

AInightingale · 07/10/2023 21:22

Well done, I had to use nicorette gum (which I now have to give up).

Think if you go cold turkey, it is very tough for three days but beyond that your body no longer physically craves nicotine, just the smoking habit I suppose.

I was lying in bed the night before I gave up after reading and vaping for a solid hour, with my heart really pounding racing a mile a minute and thought, this is crazy, I need to stop this.

NoMoreVaping · 07/10/2023 21:29

Al. The heart racing thing, I only noticed it yesterday. I think it’s been going on a while but always so busy I didn’t notice. Stopped and observed it and it was really scary. Took like three puffs. Worried if I’ve damaged my heart in some way.

Olivia199 · 07/10/2023 21:30

Hi all, I should really join if that's okay.

I gave up smoking 7 years ago but used the Vape to do so. Went down from the higher strengths all the way to Nicotine free liquid. Then gave up altogether for two years to have my DD.

Started vaping at work again when I returned but on low (1mg) nicotine as they'd stopped doing the free one I liked. Gave up just fine to have IVF again and got pregnant. So stopped for the 14 weeks of treatment and pregnancy.

Sadly had a missed miscarriage and on the way home from the scan I popped into B&M and started straight back up. Few weeks on and I absolutely want to give up. I did so easily previously but always for a reason. So guess I'm trying to find my reason again now (other than the fact I no longer want to!).

It's absolutely just habit for me. If I'm at work I don't think about it, if DD is around.. same. But on the drive to work when she's at nursery, and once she's in bed.. old habits die hard!

How's everyone doing?

AInightingale · 07/10/2023 21:40

Hi @Olivia199 that is very sad for you and totally understandable that you reacted in that way. I was an ex/ non smoker for years then turned to vapes about 6 months ago after a hellish couple of months dealing with one crisis after another. Don't know why I did, I was just utterly pissed off.

You need to just pick a day, get the vapes in the bin (one you can't access!) the night before and get stocked up on some lozenges, patches or gum, I think - I didn't actually find it as hard as giving up smoking as you can't smell other people's vapes so it's not as hard as getting the aroma of cigarette smoke when someone else lights up.

pavillion1 · 07/10/2023 21:53

I knew i needed to stop for many reasons but what i think was the decider was i just felt like such an idiot doing it at my age (42) None of my friends do it and the hassle of going out the house for long periods of time did my head in , Making sure i had enough cartridges and batteries, having to nip of every half hour .. The cost of the brand i used (Motives) had shot up and half the time they were good batches and bad batches .. I was noticeably more out of breath during exercise then anyone else .
It was time to Stop . Il be on day 7 tomorrow.. Im using patches atm until i know im out the danger zone ..
Good luck everyone xx

Olivia199 · 07/10/2023 21:58

Thank you @AInightingale, you're absolutely right. I didn't use anything to stop before and found it so simple. I guess now it's that horrible side of hating that it's such a habit but also secretly getting pleasure from actually doing it.

I order all the Atomisers etc online as I don't have anywhere near me, so once I've binned them I hope it'll be fairly straightforward as there's nowhere I could get them instantly. Just need to pull up my socks and decide this love hate relationship is over!!

Between work and being around my DD I actually use it much less than when I gave up before. I was absolutely a "strapped to my hand" kind of vaper a few years back. But when I consider not having it at all...!

I think it'll be a goodbye on Friday night. Mainly as I've got Friday off with DD in nursery so I know it'll be a tricky day. Will try and set myself up to win and all that. Whereas the weekend we are busy so that'll help.

I'll check back in Friday night for some accountability!

Olivia199 · 07/10/2023 21:59

Though it does help that my current Vape has a broken charging port so it's a bloody nightmare affair to charge the thing. And I am NOT buying a new one! Hopefully I'll be cross enough with it that I'll enjoy chucking it!
