Smoking to vaping?

Has anyone succeeded in swapping smoking for vaping?
I can't stand how addicted to cigarettes I am, I wake every morning in panic about my health.
I just can't seem to get myself to stop! In fact the more I think about it, the more I smoke!
I was thinking trying to switch to vaping might be an idea?
Has anyone managed this? Any tips?
Thank you

Hi foxbox. Just been reading your thread and thought I'd join in as I'm about to make the change from smoking to vaping. (I've name changed due to my shame of smoking with a baby!)

I've quit twice in my life. Both during pregnancy. And started soon after I had my children. My littlest is 6 months now and oldest is 7. The 7yr old talks about it all the time, and it gives me the sadness. So I've bit the bullet and have ordered a vape. I'm hoping it'll arrive today, but I doubt it will be here until at least tomorrow. I only smoke about 6 roll ups a day, but I hate myself for it!

I've ordered the Switz2 from a website called totally wicked. It's had good reviews and I've ordered it in rainbow. 😂 I'm really excited to get started.

You're doing so bloody well to cut down from 30 a day to just a few. Which definitely gives me hope I should manage ok. My partner is very sceptical about switching to vaping. He smokes too, and won't even entertain the idea. Hoping that once I'm super successful at my camping quest, he will change his mind. I'd love him to stop smoking.

Hope you have a great day :)

LoonyLuna · 14/06/2018 10:25

Obviously meant vaping quest! But a camping quest does sound fun!

grannycake · 14/06/2018 13:04

Just popping in to say well done to all of you - you're doing really well. Luna my DH was very sceptical when I started but when he saw how well I did and the extra cash I had he changed his mind, I started during an Easter break and he started in the May half term. He's now better than me as I still use 5mg nicotine in my liquid and he's been down to 0 mg for months

Noqont · 14/06/2018 13:55

Yay well done everyone 👍

LoonyLuna · 14/06/2018 14:03

That's good to know, grannycake! Mine is awful stubborn, but we shall see!

I'm so gutted. It arrived! But it won't charge or turn on!! They are sending me a new battery to arrive tomorrow. But it's so disappointing!

How do you all charge yours? I've put the usb in the laptop. It worked for a time, but I unplugged it to give it a quick tester and now it hasn't come back on. It's probably my fault, I guess ...

Foxbox · 14/06/2018 14:15

grannycake thank you for checking in and for the encouragement, it's so valuable to me Smile

Welcome Luna!
Glad you've decided to join too, I honestly think this is the best hope we have! Others who have posted their stories here are testomentbto that Smile so many people saying they didn't manage any other way but have done it through vaping. It's very encouraging Smile
I too name changed for this thread due to the shame I feel!
I also hold out hope for your partner being inspired by you over time..

I keep saying it but I really think the vaping first then having a fag if you really want one approach is bery helpful. I've tried to keep my habit very much the same as my smoking habit in terms of when, where I do it etc.
It's not the same but it's the closest thing to it so I'm sticking with it.

Having said all that, today is not such a smooth day as yesterday for me. Various external stresses are making me crave my long established crutch. I'm trying to accept it for what it is and just put one foot in front of the other, focusing on the gains so far. Banking the feelings of the good days to try and draw on on days like today...
One step at a time...

How you doing 4dogs?

You'll all never look back!

I used to smoke between 20-30 a day depending on how stressful my day was (working in emergency services)

My best advice to those making the switch is don't go for the cheap ready made option or a low value (think under £20) vape stick. It won't work as well and you'll use it as an excuse to get back on the cigarettes. I've not touched one in 3 years now. Get yourself to a shop and speak to the staff. The range and variety these days is huge. Good luck

Foxbox · 14/06/2018 14:35

Noqont and Luna somehow I missed your recent posts when I posted mine Confused
Thank you for the support Smile
I charged my cheap vape pen wrong when I first got it, I don't know how but I went to the shop and they sorted it out for me. I now use my phone charger plug with the cable that came with my new vape. Hope you can get it sorted.
Marcus that's really good to hear, thank you for sharing your story with us, I find it so helpful and look forward to feeling like I'll never look back Smile

It is very exciting, and liberating, to break free from the fags.

Foxbox · 14/06/2018 14:39

Liberating. I like that 👍

I gave immediately when I bought my vape kit. Was shocked at how easy it was.

Also, wondered where the hell all that extra cash had come from at the end of each month Shock

YourVagesty · 14/06/2018 14:41

*gave up

4dogs · 14/06/2018 15:49

I went to the vape shop and bought a stick one, I just didn’t fancy one of the squat square ones. I got rolling baccy flavoured vape juice and it’s really nice, I get a decent amount of smoke to exhale and it makes a good noise when I drag on it. I have had four cigarettes today, I’m not beating myself up over it. I’d like to give up completely but dramatically cutting down is a good result as well. Glad I found this thread, everyone else’s stories are brilliant to read.

LoonyLuna · 14/06/2018 16:48

How did the vape shop sort it out for you, Fox? I think I put the coil in wrong at first, as it leaked a little. Could that be why the battery isn't working now? I know I should just chill as they are sending a new one, but I was so excited 😂

I agree with you 4dogs, they definitely don't look as nice as the pen ones.

4dogs · 14/06/2018 17:17

Did you prime the coil by dropping some fluid into it? I got the man in the shop to fill mine up for me. Also, I don’t mean to insult you but has it turned itself off? You have to press the button 5x quickly to get mine to turn on or off. Just seems strange that yours worked then conked out. Very annoying when you’re trying to get started.

LoonyLuna · 14/06/2018 17:29

Yeah, I followed all the steps in the instruction booklet. Drops on the coil thing. Put it back in, fill the tank, screw back onto battery thing. Then I plugged it into charge. Light didn't come on straight away. But then the red light that indicate it's charging came on. Left it for a while. Then unplugged it for a little trial, and no lights since. That's when I realised it leaked. So I cleaned it up a bit (just wiped off the excess with kitchen roll) and no leaks since. I've tried the five clicks about a million times! 😩

4dogs · 14/06/2018 17:34

That’s so annoying!

Foxbox · 14/06/2018 18:55

Oh that is annoying Confused I don't know what they did to sort mine out, I left it with them and went back to pick it up later. I'd done something wrong charging it. Not very helpful, sorry 😐
I bought my most recent one in the shop all set up with the coil etc, they filled it with liquid and told me to leave it 20 mins before I used it.
That's brilliant Yourvagesty 😊
I've just bought a pack of tobacco 😬 Struggling and realised I didn't have any on me. Haven't had one yet but feeling desperate. It's a long and difficult day today so not suprised I feel like this.

Just had one. They're not very nice are they Envy

OP posts:
LoonyLuna · 14/06/2018 19:41

No worries! I expect it's just a faulty battery, I usually get sent faulty things. It's how my life goes 😂 I'm trying not to think about it, telling myself my vaping quest begins tomorrow, not today!

Is having a cig and finding them gross helping, do you think?

grannycake · 14/06/2018 20:04

Foxbox I think you get a growing realisation that they're not that great - you've nearly cracked it now. (And it's been less than a week). You're doing brilliantly

Noqont · 14/06/2018 20:35

Just had one. They're not very nice are they

Nah. And the thing you start to notice, which I never did as a smoker, is that they bloomin stink. Its nice to not have stinky clothes anymore.

Ginmakesitallok · 14/06/2018 20:43

Well done! See- easy! Next there's the wee switch in your head when you see yourself as a vaper, a non smoker. 😀

Foxbox · 14/06/2018 21:22

You've nearly cracked it Smile I love that thought!!
Yes and the fags do stink don't they, I'm beginning to be able to smell a bit better and am amazed that you can smell them a mile off!
Looking forward to that switch...I'm growing very fond of my vape.
Roll on tomorrow 4dogs!

Been vaping for 4 years. I was a 40 -60 a day woman before that. My ex husband bought a basic set up,which intruiged me.
Bought a cheap ego set up to try. Ran out of tobacco when he was at work (he'd taken the big pouch with him),that day was the day I quit smoking.
I started off on 24mg. Now I'm on 3mg with one set up just for 12mg for ''those'' times. I have 5 set ups now,2 MTL ones and 3 Sub Ohm/DTL.

Could never go back to smoking,it stinks, tastes revolting and is so expensive now. Plus my health and skin is so much better. Best thing I ever did for my health.
