Smoking to vaping?

Foxbox · 06/06/2018 11:33

Has anyone succeeded in swapping smoking for vaping?
I can't stand how addicted to cigarettes I am, I wake every morning in panic about my health.
I just can't seem to get myself to stop! In fact the more I think about it, the more I smoke!
I was thinking trying to switch to vaping might be an idea?
Has anyone managed this? Any tips?
Thank you

Oh what a hard day in terms of cravings I've had. I've nearly caved twice today and had tons of cravings. People I've been with or walked past while smoking have been getting dirty looks off me. Not in disgust but jealousy. Also it smelled so good and familiar I just really really wanted one. I nearly walked in my house and lit one up! I was seconds away from doing so. I thought I was passed this stage but clearly not. I hope I have a better day tomorrow as my will power is starting to give in 😑☹

LoonyLuna · 27/06/2018 20:05

Oh no tutty! Sorry to hear you are struggling today. The fact that you have had those cravings today, and haven't given in is amazing. Have faith in yourself. Even if tomorrow is another bad day, you can get through it. Because you already have! But remember, if you do give in, it is not the end of your not smoking journey. You've come so far. You've got this!

Foxbox · 27/06/2018 20:28

Oh Tutty Flowers
It's not easy by any stretch of the imagination is it. I think you hit the nail on the head with the familiarity thing. I really feel you on that. I think it was dogs who said about our brains being retrained to the new normal. I think they have panics as they fight back against the re- programming. You're so strong and you've got this. You've come so far. Minute by minute, hour by hour, you're winning the battle against the evil cancer sticks. Think how you felt before you started and hold on to the gains if you can. Like Luna says, you've done amazing to get through this far and whatever happens it's by no means the end of the road.
Hoping for a better day for you tomorrow

Thank you all. I made it to early evening then got stuck into a easy going light hearted book. Took my mind right off it. I'm now in bed so that's another day not smoked. I'm really proud i didn't cave today. I wanted to so bad! It is very hard isn't it changing what comes so naturally to you? I've smoked since I was about 12/13 🤤 Its gonna take me a long time to get used to it. I will have good and bad days. I just hope I'm strong enough to hold it out. I know if I even have 1 fag all the 100% progress bars on my smoking app for my health with go back to 0% and my days back to 0. I don't want that, I really don't.

Foxbox · 27/06/2018 22:59

You are strong enough. You've shown that already. So impressed with the way you got through that. Have you got some 18mg for when it's really tough? (I think you're on 12?)
Yes it's such a big thing to get used to. I read an article saying that we should expect to go through a grief process as we've made the fags our friends all these years and leant in them in every situation for so long. Even though we know they've been a terrible friend to us, that made sense to me. Anyway, well done, another day done and a tough one at that. Your strength inspires me.

Going through a grieving process makes sense Fox, cigarettes have been my best friend for 35 years. I think that’s why I stare at them so much when I see someone smoking. Well done Tutty for getting through a difficult day, you did really well. I went on a pokemon go raid last night and a couple of people were smoking, made me want to reach automatically for a cigarette, just habit. I’m on day 10 today, yay double
figures!

Keep going!

LoonyLuna · 28/06/2018 14:15

Think I've got the right all now.

How are we all getting on today? Any better today, tutty?

I've gone a bit brave and ordered a banana flavour! 😱

Smoking to vaping?
LoonyLuna · 28/06/2018 14:16

*app

That is a lot of cigarettes not smoked, Ollivander. That's so amazing!

4dogs · 28/06/2018 17:05

Those are impressive figures Olivander! How are you doing Tutty? Hope today is better for you. I mislaid one of my vapes earlier and nearly cried, I felt bereft! Found it about an hour later and had another
charged one but I just felt awful. Then I was at a friend’s and it ran out and again I felt a
real panic for a minute or two but it was fine and pokemon go distracted me from any cravings on the way home. I still can’t stop eating though, I’m hoping it will wear off
after a while. I have had 6 bags of crisps today, normally I can go months without having any and all I think about is crisps, cake and chocolate! I suppose it beats thinking about cigarettes tho!

Tuttytoffee · 28/06/2018 22:37

Evening all, I've managed another day. It feels like it's getting harder for me. I don't like the vaping much and just have a constant feeling that there's an itch i need to scratch. The vape is helping 100% but my body knows it's not the same. I'm not getting the full satisfaction i would off a fag. I knew this would be the case and why it's not going to be a easy ride. Just hard to power through on bad days. I'm still smoke free though so I must want it more than I thought I did. I think the issue with me is that I actually enjoy smoking, it's a massive stress release for me. At the same time they cause me stress worrying about my health all the time. Damn you disgusting sticks that are enjoyable but kill you ☹

LoonyLuna · 28/06/2018 23:24

Oh tutty! I totally get you about the enjoyment part. I bloody love a cig! But I think what has helped me is getting excited about different flavours. Have you tried many? What is it that you aren't liking? You are doing so well though. You should be ever so proud of yourself.

Jins · 28/06/2018 23:54

Wow everyone's doing well.

I'm late to the thread but I'm now 18 months smoke free and allegedly £4K richer but it doesn't feel that way because I've got a drawer full of exciting kit and a cupboard full of different flavoured eliquid. Blush

I'm a custard vaper 75% of the time but today I'm vaping something that tastes exactly like mcvities gold biscuits and it's gorgeous.

I make my own liquid now which is easy enough and cheap and I only use rebuildable tanks nowadays so I never get the gunked up coil taste any more. But 18 months ago I was messing round trying to find the right kit and the right liquid and I quite miss those days

4dogs · 29/06/2018 07:38

Hi @Jins, well done on giving up for so long. I’m intruiged, how do you make your own liquids?

Jins · 29/06/2018 07:53

@4dogs I'm not very adventurous so I mix using concentrates from Chefs flavours or bestcigliquid. There are loads of online calculators to tell you how much PG, VG, concentrate and nicotine to add.

I have a couple of litres of pre TPD 72mg nicotine stored in my freezer which will last a few more years yet but it's still obtainable although more expensive than it used to be

Foxbox · 29/06/2018 12:24

Just checking in. Had a shitty couple of days personally but managed to stick to the vape so I'm pleased with that. Passed the 2 week mark now. Everyone's doing great despite everything!
Nice to meet you Jins Smile

Well done on two weeks Fox. It’s good that you got through some tough days without lapsing. I’m on day 11 now and feeling proud of myself. I was a very heavy smoker who loved smoking, never thought I would quit, don’t think I’d have done it without this thread. Now I’m loving my vape and am
mixing my juices together to get the perfect combo of menthol, mint and eucalylptus, it’s lovely and cool and fresh. Both my vapes
ran out of battery simultaneously earlier so I had to use my not very good cirro one but it was better loaded with a glacier/menthol mix so I survived. I’m still hyper noticing smokers when I’m out and about tho! Don’t feel envious but I do stare at their cigarettes!

TooTrueToBeGood · 29/06/2018 14:57

Well done and keep going.

I switched to vaping back in December 2009. I'd been a heavy (30-40 a day) smoker since I started secondary school and had tried and failed to give up smoking numerous times either with NRT or going cold turkey. I managed to quit once for over a year but I always ended up mack on the smokes.

8 years vaping now and haven't touched a cigarette nor do I have any desire to. Stick with it and find what works for you best in terms of devices and liquids. It may take time and a bit of trial and error but the benefits are so worth it. I've saved a bloody fortune but more importantly my fitness is better than I can ever remember. I've always been active and enjoy running, hill walking, cycling, kayaking to name a few group activities. For all my enthusiasm, when I was a smoker I was usually the tail-ender in the group puffing and wheezing to keep up. Now I'm invariably out the front having to stop or slow down to let others keep up.

Foxbox · 29/06/2018 15:27

Thanks dogs Smile and you're doing brilliant. I'm really proud of all of us, wouldn't be where I am now without this thread either. Don't have the support in IRL and know I would have lapsed on my own, but there's something about not wanting to let the side down and being encouraged by others that's so valuable to me. What's your favourite menthol so far dogs? I'm a bit bunged up today and really enjoying the eucalyptus/menthol combo of moriyas mix. Feels like it's doing me good 😂 I'm tempted by the salt menthol one you shared the other day too.

Hello TooGoodToBeTrue! 👋
That's very inspiring/encouraging to hear how well you've done and managed to stick to it. I have high hopes that us newbie vapers here will be the same in time.

dogs, I keep eating rubbish too. I think we might need a weight loss thread once we've cracked this Hmm

OP posts:
Jins · 29/06/2018 16:17

I'm amazed by how many of you are menthol vapers. Menthol and tobacco are the two I won't touch Smile

I found after 3-4 weeks that my tastebuds had returned and everything I'd loved at the start really didn't taste good any more. I think I got through the first few weeks on jam on toast from onepoundeliquid and pina colada from joose juice. I don't want to vape either of them ever again.

Today I'm switching between the best vanilla custard I've ever found (and I've tried a lot) and elderflower lemonade in my cloud chucking tank. The variety of flavours is mind blowing

Foxbox · 29/06/2018 16:36

The menthol is adventurous for me atm 😂 Still on mostly tobacco flavour!
Although, I too am intrigued by the vast array of flavours available, just not sure if I could cope with it all day. We'll see, it's still early days....
Luna and Tutty are more adventurous with flavours I think...

OP posts:
Tuttytoffee · 29/06/2018 17:39

Well I'm happy to say that today has been a great day so far. No cravings much! Maybe 1 or 2. I think I'm not liking the vape as I'm using the peach one that smells like the shots in the local Chinese 😂 I loved the vimto and blueberry flavour. I'm refusing to go and waste money buying more though until I've used up what I've got. I spent £11 on Saturday and got 5 flavours. I've still got a full bottle of shisha grape and some peach and blueberry left. I think that'll last me 2 more days so not having 1 bottle a day like a 1st thought. Must of just really had a bad day for chain vaping. I'm aiming for buying more on Monday.

Tuttytoffee · 29/06/2018 17:40

Sorry no, I've also got the full bottle of vanilla custard but it burnt by coil off one puff so I'm scared to use it again.

whereiscaroline · 29/06/2018 17:46

@Foxbox I am so proud of you!! Well done GinThanks

Jins · 29/06/2018 17:49

This is my second attempt at vaping. The first failed partly because I had rubbish kit but also because the flavours were wrong.

Don't be scared to chuck the ones you don't like to the back of a drawer. It's more important to keep at it at this stage
