Smoking to vaping?

Foxbox · 06/06/2018 11:33

Has anyone succeeded in swapping smoking for vaping?
I can't stand how addicted to cigarettes I am, I wake every morning in panic about my health.
I just can't seem to get myself to stop! In fact the more I think about it, the more I smoke!
I was thinking trying to switch to vaping might be an idea?
Has anyone managed this? Any tips?
Thank you

I have just realised that the nicotine stains on my fingers have nearly gone! That’s
made me feel really good as they were very dark and noticeable.

SamanthaH92 · 18/06/2018 09:06

@4dogs mine used to be really noticeable too when i first quit if i had been smoking OH rollies. They soon went. I think if you can stick to a vape you soon realise the smell of fags is disgusting. I don't think i could ever go back. I am currently pregnant and been told not to stop vaping by smoking censation midwife and by normal midwives. Apprently according to last midwife the gps will soon be recommending them and prescribing cheap ones x

BetterthanIthink · 18/06/2018 09:17

Thanks 4dogs
My DH is also going to stop and I’m finding even 3 days in of not smoking as much I can really smell the smell of smoke that wafts in when he’s gone outside for a smoke.
Everyone is doing so well !!

4dogs · 18/06/2018 09:45

That’s great that your dh is going to stop, I don’t think mine intends to but I think he has cut down a bit. He smokes about 30 a
day, tailor mades so it’s an expensive habit. I’m not going to nag him about it though, I’ll just hope he will get fed up with it.

Foxbox · 18/06/2018 09:57

Everyone's doing great!

Brilliant news about your fingers 4dogs, isnt it lovely. SmileI also have a crap 2nd vape which does for an emergency. The vape I bought from the vape shop has a longer battery life and seems to just about last till bedtime.

Good to hear you story Samantha, congrats on your pregnancy.

That's brilliant BetterThanIThought. What a difference!

Luna, good news about DH, you're obviously making it look very do-able

Tutty, I've re-downloaded the app, thank you!

Good luck for today all, everyone's sounding very positive Smile

We are all doing very well so far and should be extremely proud. I know I am! It's 49 hours smoke free for me and about 41 not smoked.

It's nice to brush teeth of a morning and your mouth still feel clean isn't it?!

I've gone back to using a 12mg today as I wasn't enjoying the flavours of the 18mg. I couldn't taste anything at all but my 12mg flavour was stronger?? When I've got some extra money I shall treat myself to new flavours to try. I just need to find one that I love. One that i could happily vape on all day.

I've also digged out and aspire pockex (I think that's what it's called) I'm going to charge it up and get a new coil in it so I have a spare for an emergency. It's not as good as the one im using but hopefully will help in a sticky situation. These are all from previous attempts were I've smoked as well as using a vape in a hope of gradually cutting down. This never worked for me and after 1 day they got flung and I was fully on the cigs. This time I need to try a clean break!

SamanthaH92 · 18/06/2018 10:26

I have the aspire pockex. I bloody love it lol. OH has one too along with about 4 big ones. I don't know where you all are from but there is a shop in bishop Auckland that sell liquid at discount prices. We paid £5 last time for 100ml bottle. Its all good liquid they just buy it cheap and sell it off cheap. You can order online for delivery.

Tuttytoffee · 18/06/2018 10:42

I like it too Samantha but I prefer a longer mouth piece? That one has a short black stub and every time I had a puff I was getting hot liquid in my mouth. I'm using a eleaf battery with an aspire tank thing. All the terminology is confusing to me 🤣.

Wilson2 · 18/06/2018 10:48

I switched from smoking to vaping and saw my health drastically improve - it has seriously helped so much! However, I found the technicalities of vaping, choosing e-liquids, figuring out how the vapes worked properly, pretty difficult. But found this article really helpful gottagettavape.com/know-the-anatomy-of-a-vape-device-before-buying-one/ and am now a vaping pro! I also LOVE the aspire pockex! SO pleased you are making this transition and hope you have loads of success with it! x

LoonyLuna · 18/06/2018 13:16

Quick bit of advice please! Is it better to have a spare battery, or a spare vape pen? (As in the whole thing)

I'm not sure really. If I get a spare vape, I'll also need to get extra coils. So I'm thinking it'll be better to just get a battery for my tank. But what if something happens to the tank?! Aaahhh dilemmas.

Fox, hat trick of fags not smoke! Fantastic!

I like the counting hours. I'm about 53 hours rollie free! I saw OH pinch some of my baccy this morning, but he's left the pouch. Ooh, just thinking about that is the first time I wanted to have a cig! Probably need to vape ....

4dogs · 18/06/2018 13:33

Counting hours sounds good Luna, 53 hours sounds impressive! I think you should have a spare battery and spare coil, that should keep you going. I’m constantly puffing on my vape, need to get more liquid tomorrow and think I will also get a spare coil, my ecig came with a spare but I don’t want to get caught short.

Thebluedog · 18/06/2018 13:40

My dh switched from cigarettes to vaping a few years ago and it’s the best thing he ever did.

His vaping stick broke whilst in holiday so he bought some cigarettes. He smoked one, put it out and threw the rest away as he said they tasted horrid. He’s now on the lowest mg and I think it wont be long until he’s quit altogether

grannycake · 18/06/2018 14:31

Spare coils essential. I also have spare battery. I have never broken the tank but my DH has so we have one spare tank for both of us. I like the Innokin tank as it has a swivel mouthpiece. Well done everyone - you're all well on the way to being ex-smokers

4dogs · 18/06/2018 15:50

I really want a rollie right now! This seems to be a tough time of day for me from about half three to six pm or so. Not sure why but I know I struggled at this time yesterday as well. I have made a rollie but I’m not going to smoke it. I don’t need to, it’s just a habit, I can get nicotine from the vape. I’ve had to refill it twice today but that’s ok, as long as I don’t give in to the craving. Arghhh! I’m thinking of all of you on this thread and taking strength from everyone. I do not need a cigarette. I can do this.

Foxbox · 18/06/2018 16:03

We are on the way to being ex smokers! Go us! I still find this hard to believe when I think we I was at less than 2 weeks ago...
Luna- hat trick! I like it! Agree counting hours is a great way to do it.
Thank you Wilson and bluedog really good to hear about your/DH's experiences Smile will have a read of the article.
Look forward to hearing how everyone's got on today. So far, so good for me... aiming for my 4th 30 not smoked day. I'm going to go to the vape shop and ask them if I need to change the coil in my vape. Still can't tell but it's making less of that lovely crackely sound

4dogs · 18/06/2018 16:22

I’ve worn the battery out on mine already today! My back up is a Cirro 2 which is ok but doesn’t produce as much vape, better than nothing tho and I’ve just ordered a new tank (you change the tank not the coil on this one) for it and some menthol juice. I am definitely having a chain vape day today! FoxBox, you are doing incredibly well and are an inspiration.

SamanthaH92 · 18/06/2018 16:32

@4dogs what size is your tank and what strength nicotine are you on?

4dogs · 18/06/2018 16:47

My tank is small and I am on 12mg nicotin in the Ego Eco and 18mg in the Cirro 2. I’m going to get more 18mg nicotine tomorrow for the Ego. I’m not sure if it is the nicotine per se i’m missing, I think it is the act of drawing on a cigarette and blowing the smoke back out. I’m feeling better now
than I did earlier and I managed not to smoke so all is good.

Foxbox · 18/06/2018 17:08

4dogs just seen your PP where you were struggling. Sorry I didn't see it when I wrote mine. I seem to really struggle at certain times too. It's such an ingrained habit, it's not even about the nicotine. I'm also drawing all my strength from this thread...I found my first 0 fags day the worst, then went back to 1 or 2 the next day, then somehow got through with 0 again the next.
I hope you got through it, you're doing so bloody well. If you did have a fag I hope you're not beating yourself up for it. Keep counting all those fags not smoked...
You can do it. You are doing it, you're also keeping me going Flowers

Foxbox · 18/06/2018 17:10

Done it again! Missed your post as I typed mine. That's amazing. Well done, glad you're feeling better Smile

SamanthaH92 · 18/06/2018 18:20

I am on a 6mg. I get 5 refils out of a 10ml bottle and i normally use 4 fills a day so don't worry about over using it. Just make sure you up your water in take or you may dehydrate your self. Well done for not having one xx

Tuttytoffee · 18/06/2018 18:50

I'm having a terrible day. DC playing up. I'm running round in between jobs. My cravings are through the roof and I feel dreadful. This has to be the worst day so far for wanting a cig so bad. And also my gums are really sore and I can taste blood in my mouth? It's like my gums are bleeding but I can't actually see blood. Not caved yet but this is so hard ☹

SamanthaH92 · 18/06/2018 19:03

Bleeding gums after quitting is normal. My gums still occasionally hurt but dentist said they look so much better x

Foxbox · 18/06/2018 19:12

Tutty you can do this. So hard I know but if you can get through the next few hours, you'll have made it through another whole day. Hour by hour, chain vape if you can, you're doing great. Vent here as much as you need Flowers

OP posts:
4dogs · 18/06/2018 19:16

You can do it Tutty, I was nearly crying earlier but I’m through the worst now. And even if you do have one you still haven’t smoked a load more.
