The garish prints in horrid fabrics are still there but I think it's their attempt to cater for a plus size woman who wants to wear "bold prints".

Anyway, horrid tunic aside there's definitely some wearable dresses in there. I wouldn't be surprised to see this one in French Connection and I quite like the look of the velvet one with sheer sleeves.

I don't think I've worn velvet since a childhood Christmas party when my Mum put me in purple cullottes and I couldn't get the button done up. She used an elastic band to hold them closed. Oh the shame of it.

ChasingSquirrels · 25/10/2009 11:26

so, formal dinner (sporting dinner) for work - entertaining contacts and (hopefully) prospective clients.
I'm 37, size 13, 173cm.
Which dress?
grey lace
black velvet & sheer tunic
green twist maxi

Amandoh · 25/10/2009 11:29

The black velvet ChasingSquirrels.

The bow on the back of the green one looks awful.

CybilAviationAuthority · 25/10/2009 11:29

I do like to go into shops where I am the hippest young thing there, rather than Top Shop where I feel like Nurse Gladys Emanuel

CybilAviationAuthority · 25/10/2009 11:29

I'm off to Jaques Vert

ChasingSquirrels · 25/10/2009 11:36

bow is awful, hadnt looked at the back. shame as I like the front.

BonjourIvresse · 25/10/2009 11:45

Nice styles but what's with all the polyester though?

MaggieBruja · 25/10/2009 12:02

i WAS GOING to buy http://www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Coats-Jackets/Coats/WE244/Womens-Uptown-Coat.html this coat from Boden,

but then i saw this wallis one for half the price!

Are they not very similar?

and .......... wallis deliver free to ireland. I bought two lovely jersey dresses which were forty pounds on wallis on line and and sixty euro in the irish branches of wallis shops here so I saved nearly 20 euro on the dresses.

I hope the other shops will also follow their lead and deliver free to Ireland!

MaggieBruja · 25/10/2009 12:05

my link... oops. hang on

this was the boden one i liked

MaggieBruja · 25/10/2009 12:14

I bought this wallis dress

here

and this one here

quality not boden, but they aren't frumpy lengths either. above the knee not two inches below it.

soyabean · 25/10/2009 12:17

Ooh Simon I like that velvet one with the sheer sleeves - it might be the LBD I was after for Xmas. Possibly a bit short for me, may go and try it. Agree wallis is v variable indeed.

MaggieBruja · 25/10/2009 12:18

lol just noticed that the second dress I bought is 'posh'. Well, I just can't hide my real self, even on a gingerale and chips budget....

Do you mean sleeveless one? Veh nice

MaggieBruja · 25/10/2009 15:28

I got the usual little peel away label with bar code and order number on it for IF I wanted to return items, so I'm guessing that returning is fairly simple.

Then you go back on line and click on something through your order confirmation email to confirm it's going back.

I am going to order that coat that looks like the boden one I think. OK, it doesn't have the fabulous lining, but I can live with that.
