My birthday is coming up and I would like to ask for a nice perfume.

Ideally i would like one of Penhaligon's, but not sure anyone could afford that for me!

So what else do you recommend?

Well, right now I'm wearing "nutmeg and ginger" by Jo Malone and the other one I wear a lot is "Tuberose and Gardenia" by Estee Lauder. For "going out", I wear "Carnal Flower" by Frederic Malle.

All of which I luuuurve to chat about but I guess it doesn't help you.

If you like Pehaligons, I'm guessing you like single note florals with a slightly vintage feel. So, as a starter for 5 points, maybe you'd like "Vintage Gardenia" by Jo Malone.

I wear Aqua di Parma Iris during the day and Chanel No 5 at night as I have been wearing it for nearly 25 years and can't give it up!

notamumyetbutoneday · 21/10/2009 11:42

I have loads that I love:

Femme- Hugo Boss- wore this on my wedding day

Armani Code- Armani- an 'evening' perfume as stronger/heavier (not 'down' with the perfume lingo!) than somethign you would wear in the day time

Very irresistible by Givenchy- got this in Harrods sale last Christmas (after Christmas) for £15, huge bottle as well.DH's fave

Envy me- Gucci- very light perfume for days when you dont want to smell too perfumey

J'adore- Dior- fairly sweet but nice for summer days

DKNY- be Delicious- very fruity, get lots of compliments when I wear it

Ones Im not too keen on:

Obsession- Calvin Klein- my mum bought it for me but i feel its a bit too 'mature' for me (I'm 27)

Contradiction- Calvin Klein- eye-wateringly over-powering IMO

My Classics:
Obsession
Angel
Poison

(am 80s child)

My daytime classics
Clinique Happy
Chanel 19.

Just started using Hugo Boss Orange which is lovely.
Also have a tester of Eau Des Merveilles by Hermes which is gorgeous and I'm hoping for a full size bottle of it for crimbo

cherryblossoms · 21/10/2009 11:51

Aqua di Parma "Iris" is lovely. It's grown up, feminine and sexy but without being in your face.

Someone I knew was wearing it at a party. It's distinctive but not over-powering. I kept on catching little hints of it and was finally compelled to ask her what it was. Mmmm. It's a stretch from Penhaligons ... but maybe that's what you want!

They sell it in Space NK, so if you're near one of those and are intrigued, you could go in for a spray.

overmydeadbody · 21/10/2009 11:53

oooh wow so many recomendations!!!

Next time I have some free time I am going into John Lewis or Debenhams to smell all of these and choose some for my wishlist!

Have run out at the moment but usually I wear either B Scent or Love, from B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful. Love is quite a spicy apple pie smell, B Scent is more clean and fresh. They've got a shop in Covent Garden if you're anywhere near there, good to pop in and sniff before buying

colditz · 21/10/2009 11:55

Hot couture by Givenchy

Damned expensive and now discontinued.

FUCK!

overmydeadbody · 21/10/2009 11:55

notamummy I do love Be Delicious too, have never owned any but it is what I spray myself with when I'm near a tester in boots or John Lewis or debenhams etc

Someone gave me a bottle of contradiction my CK once and I still have the full bottle as I found it horrible.

Have run out of nice perfume and haven't smelt nice for months now.

I wear Lanvin 'Eclat D'Arpege' for day, and Laura Biagiotti for evenings.

tulpe · 21/10/2009 12:12

If you like single note florals, you can't go wrong with Paul Smith Rose.

Being an aromatherapist, I am incredibly sensitive to very artificial smelling perfumes (I get a banging headache walking through perfume departments). This one is absolutely beautiful and has a lovely rose aroma which starts off being very light and then develops into a stunningly deep, long lasting scent.

The other perfumes I wear are

L'Occitane Amber (very sweet, ylang ylang type notes & vanilla).
Stella McCartney
Dior Midnight Poison (very heady- definitely an evening/winter scent)
Chanel No 5 - which I have loved with a passion until discovering the Paul Smith

bodycolder · 21/10/2009 12:12

Every time I wear A d P someone compliments it.

SofaQueen · 21/10/2009 12:13

Spring Flowers by Creed is the fragrance I've been wearing for the past 15 years. If I could, I'd love to perspire that fragrance!

toftr · 21/10/2009 12:14

I love the Philosophy Grace range, and Marc Jacobs Daisy is lovely too. Plus Calvin Klein Truth and DKNY Red Delicious. mmm

notamumyetbutoneday · 21/10/2009 12:16

OMDB I think I read somewhere that our nostrils nice!) can only accommodate so many smells at a time. or something. So it is recommended to only smell 3 perfumes at most at a time, otherwise the nose becomes confused. I most likely learned this from that heavy-weight scientific journal, Marie Claire magazine.

bodycolder · 21/10/2009 12:16

tulpe which stella macartney do you have? She also does an iris I was wondering if it was as good as Aqua di parma

notamumyetbutoneday · 21/10/2009 12:25

That should be "...our nostrils (nice!) can only..."

BonjourIvresse · 21/10/2009 12:27

I'm wearing calyx by prescriptives at the moment, was etsee lauder pleasures before that..

teameric · 21/10/2009 13:23

tulpe I used to wear L'Occitane Amber too. Might have to get another bottle of that as well.

Macdog · 21/10/2009 13:25

I'm saving for a bottle of 'Lola' by Marc Jacobs.
Very flowery

tulpe · 21/10/2009 13:25

bodycolder - it is Stella by Stella McCartney. It is a blend with rose, mandarin, violet and amber.
