Right - I bought some velcro rollers a few months back hoping they'd make my (long, fine but lots of it!) hair a bit glossier than my usual routine of leaving ti to dry naturally and nothing else (apart from frequent tugs from dd). I couldn't sleep in them (I tried) and have put them away in a cupboard.

If I get them out now what do I do to get lovely hair?

VietnameseCobbler · 13/07/2009 14:49

monkeysmama · 13/07/2009 14:53

Thanks VC had read other posts and followed for a day or so but couldn't believe it was that easy. Cheers.

Flibbertyjibbet · 13/07/2009 18:38

er.... MamaG I hate to be the bearer of bad news but

80's whopper shoulder pads are back in.

Its just a matter of time before we all look like those guitar players in that wotsisname video.

yup, I see big hair, big shoulder pads, big eyebrows all back in by xmas.

MamaG · 13/07/2009 22:23

not in this house fli!

badgermonkey · 13/07/2009 22:25

I bought some but they just sliiiiiiiiiiiide out of my hair. HOW CAN I BE DOING THIS WRONG?

triffictits · 13/07/2009 22:58

so if you use them on a day you are not washing hair do you have to damped hair first?

I have a graduated bob, tell me how they would help me cos i hate drying it.

bleh · 14/07/2009 10:37

Okay, I tried again last night with really big rollers (I think about three inches across). I didn't wash my hair, but just rinsed it out, half dried it, and then bunged them in, spraying ma-hoosive amounts of Elnet (was concerned that Al Gore would turn up and shout at me about dying penguins, but so far, he hasn't turned up). I then blasted with a hair-dryer for about three minutes (moving around the head) left it in for ages while doing ironing (on the assumption that the heat and steam will help with setting the style). Initially, it did look a bit like this, but once it settled down it was very swooshy and lovely, even after sleeping on it. Highly recommend

VietnameseCobbler · 14/07/2009 13:27

you slept on it?
wow
my farrah curls from yest have lasted till now

bleh · 14/07/2009 13:32

I know!

How do you do the Farrah curls? Might try that out next time.

VietnameseCobbler · 14/07/2009 13:58

rather than rolling it under you roll it away from your face

triffictits · 14/07/2009 14:45

now come on...tell me how these would spice up a shortish bob!

JohnDory · 14/07/2009 14:45

read the thread!!!!

bleh · 14/07/2009 14:49

I have a longish bob, and use 3 inch across rollers. Get smaller ones (from boots etc.). As I said above:

  • Last night I didn't wash my hair, but just rinsed it out (though you can just wash it normally)
  • half dried it
  • (I forgot this step) sprayed on styling spray and combed it through,
  • then bunged them in, spraying ma-hoosive amounts of Elnet
  • I then blasted with a hair-dryer for about three minutes (moving around the head)
  • and left it in for ages while doing ironing.
You can leave out the ironing step if you so choose. You don't have to put all over the head, you could probably get aways with just doing the top layers.
triffictits · 14/07/2009 16:41

ah I know how to put them in, but how will they make my hair look different? what will they do?

I am thicko about this but dont understand how they will change a bob.

dont want to look like crystal carrington!

JohnDory · 15/07/2009 11:33

right well i got as far as the car today with one still in

FenellaFudge · 15/07/2009 15:20

Arf.
Right I tried this morning. My hair looks decidedly messy. It has a pleasant boing to it but still sodding well messy.
My hair looks messy any which way I style it.
My hair hates me. And I hate my poor hand-eye-coordination.
In all honesty, if I resembled a pixie I'd have a crop.

bleh · 15/07/2009 15:48

Triffic, they make your hair more bouncy and voluminous.

MamaG · 16/07/2009 11:19

I now have 8 big velco rollers in my possession.

I have hairspray.

I may regret this. Will report bck.

triffictits · 16/07/2009 12:17

right I am going to give them a go!

I will report back when i have bought some.

JohnDory · 16/07/2009 15:33

Right i have the one in my car now in use when travelling - no one can see can they

JRocks · 16/07/2009 19:06

If you know anyone that can buy direct from hairdressing supplies they are only around £1.50 for 12 decent sized rollers. I have far too many lingering around my home.

I like the look too, when I can be bothered, it's little effort for quite a good result

NervousNutty · 17/07/2009 19:51

I got some today and am now sat here typing this with a head full of blue rollers.

I am not convinced it will work, as I rushed it and have also had 2 glasses of wine.

HotToastAndButter · 17/07/2009 22:32

ooh ooh and?

NervousNutty · 17/07/2009 23:16

Rubbish

No volume, no curls and at one point I feared that I may have to keep one in forever as it seemed to have become permanently attatched.

I found them really really hard to get out, what did i do wrong ??
