What to wear to sleb-studded private art view in a swanky mayfair club(I will be 3x their size, have nothing to wear, and may well cry in the toilets, but have to go for DP's sake?)

Sorry, am new to posting in Style (as I last bought clothes eons ago), but I really need your help!

DP is having a major show (he is an artist) in a very posh club in London in a month, and told me excitedly that all sorts of people have said they are coming, including Girls Aloud. I do of course feel very proud of him and want to be there to support him, but the thought of Cheryl "I was so fat at 9.5 stone I wanted to kill myself" Cole swanning around is too much for my fragile ego to bear...

I am 5'2", a size 12, probably will have skin too bad (psoriasis bad at mo) to show much arm or leg, and also clueless when it comes to knowing what sort of outfit would be appropriate.

I hate shopping, so online if possible would be great. Please help me, I am majorly stressing out about going to a big do when I am a bit shy anyway, and o don't want to be sneered at by famous twiglets or (heaven forbid) hear "Oi, outta the picture fatarse!" from some paps

Please help me feel more confident and pick an outfit!

Cheryl Cole style

VinegarTits · 15/01/2009 17:38

Yes i like the Chiffon dress, but that model is too skinny to pull it off, it just hangs on her, it would look fab on someone with curves

VinegarTits · 15/01/2009 17:43

I love the way you can view catwalk on that site so you can see how the drss moves

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 15/01/2009 17:46

I love the pinafore dress, but it would need thick tights!

VinegarTits · 15/01/2009 17:46

This one looks fab on the catwalk

Right i'm off home!

BonsoirAnna · 15/01/2009 17:49

I wore this dress to quite a dressy party last weekend. I wore it with a large purple/black/green necklace and purple metallic ballet flats (both Marni sale, but no links unfortunately) and it looked great and was really, really comfortable.

GentleOtter · 15/01/2009 18:14

Tights for psoriasis - if you get your legs waxed a few days before the event then it can help the psoriasis.
Either these in different colours or stockings from here.
You don't see any psoratic patches through them.

AugustusGloop · 15/01/2009 18:17

Not very sexy though is is?

GentleOtter · 15/01/2009 18:19

Yes they are. The last thing you want is patches of psoriasis showing through thin nylon tights or stockings.
You think that everyone can see it.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 15/01/2009 18:38

A few suggestions:

juicy couture

Antik Batik

Tea Bags (lol at name of designer but v chic dress)

Tara Jarmon

and another by Tara Jarmon

BitOfFun · 15/01/2009 18:39

Agree GentleOtter! I am hoping to have under control by then (hospital appt soon), but was thinking either opaques or overdose on sally hansen spray before I put fishnets on? Anyway, supposed to be bathing dd2, so will pop back a bit later!

Will check them out in a little while- your hubby could come with me if DP wasn't!

AugustusGloop · 15/01/2009 19:35

I would do this if you want to cover psoriasis with colour accessories, hair up and cuff bracelet

or this one if you want to reveal.here

YOu dont want to look cold- not a good look

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 15/01/2009 20:36

BTW which club is the event being held at?

BitOfFun · 15/01/2009 21:06

It's The Mayfair Arts Club?

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 15/01/2009 21:15

I think, not 100% sure though.

Right, Anna- your dress is beautiful, but I don't think it would suit me. I need something more Nigella-ish with a lower front to avoid looking too chunky across the chest and shoulders. Wrap dresses are good, but I'd have to be careful with the length as I am short. Mrs Simms' again are lovely, but would probably look a bit boxy on me. I need to go back and check VT's and TDWP's...

ithinkimtallandblonde · 15/01/2009 22:57

Anna that dress is fab. I have to attend sleb functions occasionally and i find french connection always holds it own
is lovely on, i am a silmilar shape tou you by the Sounds of things and its cheap so you could by killer heels. Long pendant necklace and a hair appointment is a must.

AugustusGloop · 16/01/2009 20:43
Hmm
BitOfFun · 22/01/2009 22:27

Right everyone, pics on my profile of the dress I picked up in the Warehouse sale for £20...Whaddyya think? What to wear with itr? Boots and boho stuff, big bag, maybe?

It was the first one I tried, any more would have been too traumatic!

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 22/01/2009 22:36

Bump?

OP posts:
TheDevilWearsPrimark · 22/01/2009 22:36

Fooooking gorgeous!

Now what to wear with it?

CoteDAzur · 22/01/2009 22:40

Wear all black. Some jewelry.

And high heels. As high as you can possibly walk int.

squeaver · 22/01/2009 22:43

Can't believe I missed this thread! And now it's all resolved. FAB dress BoF! Completely agree with Cote - vvv high heels, black tights (NOT lace!!)

I'm crap on jewellery I'm afraid.

BitOfFun · 22/01/2009 22:47

Ooh, glad you likey! I do have some of those v. high platform shiny black courts (only previously used for hobbling round in bedroom prancing) which might look good with opaque tights...thing is I will have to get pissed and it might end in disaster. Shoe shopping I can do though, so maybe slightly less vertiginous version?
