Another vote for knitted dresses and jumper dresses here.I wear loose or belted with chunky tights and biker boots .If i'm wearing a more fitted dress e.g something from next i'll wear heeled boots ,as long as the dress isn't too short they look nice.Although DP does call them F.M.B's.
I also wear smart jeans slim fitting bootlegs with heeled boots or shoes and smartish knitwear or a nice shirt.
In summer I tend to live in maxi dresses worn with flats.
I always wear make up and like to have different jackets and hats for the school run when I don't have time to do my long hair. You don't need to spend much to look nice imo.I buy alot of my clothes second hand or in sales,my girls are 5,4 and 4 months btw.

er I think cankles are fat ankles/the kind of legs that are lacking in shape! like mine really which is why I love my knee high boots so much.

IdrisTheDragon · 04/01/2009 09:27

Where do people get their knitted dresses from? I want one

Astarte · 04/01/2009 09:31

I do a prep look during the day.
Jeans, plain white t-shirt, sometimes a fine knit cardi, cons and a good wool coat (bright colour) with ponytail.

Or skinnies, ballet pumps, and a v-neck jumper with a white vest underneath.

seeker · 04/01/2009 09:33

My ds once said to me "Mummy, you wear exactly the same sort of thing during the day that you wear to go to bed!"

IllegallyBrunette · 04/01/2009 09:39

Oh i need to join this thread. I am well and truely stuck in jeans and fitted t'shirt mode and it bores the life out of me.

Going to treat myself to a few new bits and bobs with my first wage packet.

Jewelsandgems · 04/01/2009 09:40

iris this is a nice knitted dress:
oasis dress but I find knitted dresses too inconvenient for me. And all that washing is not good for wool (I have DD1 ar 2.5, and DD2 is 12 months) so, because of DD2 I get food on my all the time, and food really sticks to those knitted dresses!

devil I live in Scotland now! (have yet to update profile)

I wear skinnys with long sleeved tops layered with cardigans or smock type tops on them.
With either high or flat heeled boots. Some ankle some knee high.

Or (short)daytime skirts with thick tights (grey or black) and boots.

Or boyfriend jeans and fitted long sleeved tops or jumpers. Usually stripy, I like stripes.

Jumper dresses and boots.

Dark denim shorts over tights and uggs.

Lots of big/long necklaces too.

Loads of things

I have never managed to find a pair of skinny jeans that fit me properly, they always fit around the waist but are too big in the bum and hip dept, and then they always go baggy at the knees after 5 minutes.

www.next.co.uk/shot.asp?extra=sch&b=X43&p=232&s=1&n=branded&pid=430-016

here are some

princessmel · 04/01/2009 10:08

Re the skinnys, I have 2 fab pairs from H and M. One daytime pair and a darker pair with creases that are more going-outy.

Also got some from Primy which were £8 and spray on! My dad said they looked like tights! lol. I have them in black and white.

Next skinnys not so good for me. I find they come up too high round my tummy.

Gosh you are all incredibly stylish - are these outfits you wear at home if you're staying in and not going out that day?

If I'm staying at home, I'll tend to be in t-shirt and wideleg jersey trousers with a cardi or sweater on top if it's cold or dark jeans and a tunic type top or smart t-shirt/lightweight jumper with a long cardigan if I'm off out. I haven't worn a skirt for about 3 years as I don't 'do' heels and my short, fat legs look a bit daft in flats!

I hardly ever wear earrings anymore either - eventhough I've got lots of really nice ones - time for a change maybe?

princessmel · 04/01/2009 10:10

They are fitted round the bum but looser all the way down.

Right now I look I state! I have pyjamas on with a vest underneath ,and a aleeveless cardigan over the top!
With cow print slipper boots on my feet.

Lemontart · 04/01/2009 10:23

another thread making me cringe at myself!
I am sitting here in a dark blue sweater bought when I was first pregnant with DD1 about 8 years ago and needed a slightly baggier jumper. Additional weight now means it fits me the same as when I was pregnant back then
My jogging bottoms are covered in white gloss paint from a stint of decorating last year. Too comfy to bin them and too stingy/lazy to buy some new ones.
Wearing those comfy fluffy bed sock thingies with grippy bits on the bottom. Awful bright purple with hearts on - DD2 chose them when shopping with DH.
What a mess

This has to be the year where I lose enough weight to feel I can justify buying clothes again. My "make do or only buy really cheap stuff while I am fat" has turned into a 7 yr habit. Either I lose the weight and buy nice stuff again or I just buy nice fat clothes.

I want to wear wide legged nice trousers with little swingy cardy thingies and chunky bracelets and gorgeous posh boots with soft woollen dresses and opaque tights too dammit!!! (can?t now, I would look like a hippo)

pagwatch · 04/01/2009 10:26

I am mostly doing jersey dress with patent boots and opaque tights at the moment. I have some sheer long sleeved t-shirts to go underneath and man cardies for an extra layer when I venture out. I get stuff mostly from Whistles, H&M and LK Benett. I love Day Birger for layers ( when I can afford it)
I never wear jeans as I am short of leg and have skinny waist but round hips.

I do get occasional "where are you going" comments but I don't give a toss. If I endlessly dress scrungy it is a sure sign I am slipping into drepression - to which I am much prone.
Also I am old. I have to make a bit more of an effort

SilentTerror · 04/01/2009 11:32

I love clothes and make up so am always experimenting!
Riven, get on ebay or if you can venture into charity shops. A few bits will make you feel much better for 2009!
As I said before,am loving leggings or skinny jeans with biker boots and jersey tunics/short dresses at the moment.
I usually add long cardigan, sleeveless or not,and pendant necklace or chunky one.
Have recently bought couple of beanie hats too which are warm and look modern.
I love these threads about what people wear

BonsoirAnna · 04/01/2009 13:42

riven - why don't you browse online (nearly all the high street shops sell online) to see what you like and where before going out shopping?
