i often wear jeans and trainers, today ive got like a swing double button cardi thing on too.

what do you think, would it look silly?

what sort of things could i go for that are a bit more dressy but in a causualish way?

longline cardigan

princessmel · 04/01/2009 13:59

Dont think this would be flattering on me though, as I have a tummy and I feel this would show how it sticks out.

I think I diff type of cardigan can be more flaterring

Riven,on the High Street I would try New Look and Primark as Mel says.
If you like leggings New Look and Dororthy perkins have some.
Do browse e bay though.

lovelysongbirdie · 04/01/2009 14:21

lemon tart i hope this thread hasnt made you feel sad.
i think what i would do, i was you is get at least one really nice outfit.
maybe throw those paint stained joggers out?
i did a thread recently saying dd was always wearing this horrible grey long sleeved tshirt, as i was saving her nice stuff for best, but when i looked at photos of her she was always inthe scruffy gear.
anyway everone on here told me to get rid of it and i did
and to no longer keep things for best.
and thats what i do now

I tend to wear skirts a lot - usually long flowing types as I am quite tall and don't have the best treetrunks legs. I have nice shirts rather than t-shirts all the time and knitted tops. I love costume jewellery and am never without something. I wear boots in winter and flat shoes in summer for comfort although I do have some heels.

I do feel a bit out of place in the playground at times as there does seem to be a SAHM 'uniform' of jeans and fleeces but I have never really been a jeans person. However, I don't think I look silly and I am not entirely alone.

Lemontart - I think you need to ditch the jogging bottoms too. I know how depressing it is to be heavier than you would like (trust me I really, really know about it) but I don't think you will get yourself in the frame of mind to do something about it if you are slopping around in awful clothes. You feel like making an effort to look nice.

If I were you I would invest in some cheap trousers and tops and add lots of accessories which will be OK whatever your size. Wide leg trousers are very forgiving of the fuller figure too so why not have a go?!

lovelysongbirdie · 04/01/2009 14:34

riven what do you think to this?

I got the wallpaper in Homebase

And the purple dress is from New Look, huge bargain. I wore it to a Christmas dinner dance thingy .

lovelysongbirdie · 04/01/2009 22:21

yesterday was black skinny jeans tucked into the same boots, with a purple pinstripe fitted shirt

lovelysongbirdie · 04/01/2009 22:40

OP posts:
lou33 · 04/01/2009 23:19

i dont, it was 15 quid in one of those discount shops, madhouse or something like it

i just saw it on a mannequin

OllieWollieWoo · 05/01/2009 09:02

H&M's new spring range has some really nice cotton shirts - several have 3/4 length sleeves with grandad collars and details such as v small ruffles or pin tucks on the front - in chambray blue, pale blue or pink stripes, small floral prints or plain. Think smock tops but more fitted but still long enough to cover tums. Look good with jeans and guess linen trousers when the sun puts in an appearance!

lovelysongbirdie · 05/01/2009 09:03

so today i am wearing a grey knitted dress black tights and grey boots.
ive done my hair and put some make up on.
although as its so cold i doubt we will be going out although maybe in the garden [have to put my skinny jeans on under the dress then] brrr
as far as we will go today will be the local shop i'd say.

lou that sounds nice

Am reading this thread with interest. Any other links to jumper/knitted dresses? And best place to get thick tights for tall people?

tumpymother · 05/01/2009 10:30

feel like a right bag of rags reading this lot ! realise that I need to sort out some new clothing options. 12 months post baby and still struggling with unsightly ceasarian tummy - anyone tried a personal shopper - wondering if that might help me find things I would never normally try on ??

Flier · 05/01/2009 13:51

I decided during the hols that I wanted to start wearing more knitted dresses and a-line skirts, but can I find any nice knitted dresses anywhere? No! aaaaargh!

So today my sahm uniform is the bog standard jeans and jumper

lou33 · 05/01/2009 15:11

today i have on dark blue skinny jeans tucked into flat knee length black boots, and a long sleeved wrapover style black mini dress which has a dropped waist (using it as a top)

lou33 · 05/01/2009 15:12

peacocks and primark have good knitted dresses
