So.... mners....What should I wear to my sister's wedding????

My sister is getting married in April - so I have loads of time to look for an outfit... but formal dressing REALLY scares me and I have found myself getting really very extremely nervous about... well... what to wear???

It is an afternoon city wedding with a sit down meal followed by dancing and general partying to a Brit Pop band after. My daughter is a bridesmaid for it. The bridesmaids are wearing chocolate brown and my Mum has bought a beautiful brightly coloured and quite highly patterned dress from East. It is browns, blues and pinks. Tasteful and jolly. It is very boho chic!

My outfit needs to not clash with my Mum. My sister is not keen on me wearing something completely plain as her adult bridesmaid is wearing a simple but stunning plain brown cocktail dress and she wants her to stand out in the photos.

Another very lovely mner suggested this (see below) which I think is lovely... and kindly added - that I should ask in 'style and beauty' too!

So I have taken her advice - Does anyone else have any good ideas???

Urrrmmmm... sheepishly calls mners please heeeeeelp!!!!

You'll be asked all those questions when the mad wedding outfit shopping MNers come on. Alas I'm not one of them. I can barely dress myself.

teafortwo · 03/10/2008 19:09

Oh - those scary questions made me think Cocolepew is Trinny's mn name!

I also have light skin and dark blonde hair - if the wedding outfitters need to know that too!!!!

Thanks Cocolepew!

That coast dress is lovely. Would be fab with hat and killer stilettos.

traceybath · 03/10/2008 20:32

Karen Millen always worth a look for that glam/wedding type outfit.

teafortwo · 03/10/2008 20:39

that is what I thought too cornsilk - but I have never needed to walk in killer stilettos - and am afraid of wobbling!!!!

Karen Millen - good idea I will look there too.

I like the quietly chic of the LK Bennett one you sent traceybath!

All indoors except a walk between the place they are getting married and the place they are having the reception.

Heels are out - I really am not comfortable in them.

Or telling you my bra size!!!!

Sorry T42 - forgot to warn you about the nork questions

would go with the colours and boho chic I think ?

too plain ?

i like

if you're happy to bare shoulders

Aefondkiss · 03/10/2008 21:05

you see teafortwo nork size will determine whether you need v neck style or can get away with a higher necked style... I am a 32F, it means I have to be very careful about what I wear on top....

I am thinking of colours that go well with brown, without being too bright, do you like pink?

teafortwo · 03/10/2008 21:07

ha ha ha - tsm - was going to ask you about that on the other thread!!!!

Black, red, white.... should I be wearing these colours to a wedding though???

Actually - it is an orangy pink in my Mums dress - I am just e-mailing my sister to see what she thinks about... the black and white dresses???

OP posts:
TillyScoutsmum · 03/10/2008 21:10

I don't think black, red or white are a problem - unless it was a completely white dress (or perhaps even a black one if its very formal wedding).

See what your sis says. I must say, you're being very thoughtful - I wouldn't have a clue what my family are wearing to our wedding.

teafortwo · 03/10/2008 21:13

About a 34C depending on the make of the bra - I wish I had name changed now - tsm that warning came too too late!!!! blush] !!!!!!!!!

TBH - I do tend to do the V neck thang! What do you think aefondkiss??? Could I do high neck or is it no go?

OP posts:
teafortwo · 03/10/2008 21:27

I have e-mailed my sister the coast one and said "what do you think of this dress for me to wear to your wedding????"

I will tell you the feedback!

TBH - If any of you wore those red dresses I would be ooooohhhhing and aaaaarrrring about how lovely they are BUT I have very light skin and suffer a bit from oily skin and spots - so red is not really a colour that looks good on me. Plus I am quite shy - so wouldn't wear it well because of my personality too!

But those black and white dresses are lovely!

OP posts:
traceybath · 03/10/2008 21:32

Black and white is very elegant and you could always wear red shoes/bag if you wanted.

teafortwo · 03/10/2008 21:35

Oooooh - looking again at your dress suggestions tsm.... it got me thinking... you see... one is a maxi dresses, maxi dresses... tsm... mmmm... maxi dresses are completely in my comfort zone - would it be ok to wear a maxi dress to a wedding!!!!??!!!!

Or would it look too Mumsy, too drippy, urrrmmm - just wrong because only the bride should be wearing a long dress, not chic enough??? Or quite a cool thing to wear????

OP posts:
traceybath · 03/10/2008 21:40

this is nice

not sure about maxi dress but thats just because they're not my style - i'd probably go for a slightly more elegant look but then you said your mum is doing boho-chic
