So.... mners....What should I wear to my sister's wedding????

My sister is getting married in April - so I have loads of time to look for an outfit... but formal dressing REALLY scares me and I have found myself getting really very extremely nervous about... well... what to wear???

It is an afternoon city wedding with a sit down meal followed by dancing and general partying to a Brit Pop band after. My daughter is a bridesmaid for it. The bridesmaids are wearing chocolate brown and my Mum has bought a beautiful brightly coloured and quite highly patterned dress from East. It is browns, blues and pinks. Tasteful and jolly. It is very boho chic!

My outfit needs to not clash with my Mum. My sister is not keen on me wearing something completely plain as her adult bridesmaid is wearing a simple but stunning plain brown cocktail dress and she wants her to stand out in the photos.

Another very lovely mner suggested this (see below) which I think is lovely... and kindly added - that I should ask in 'style and beauty' too!

So I have taken her advice - Does anyone else have any good ideas???

Urrrmmmm... sheepishly calls mners please heeeeeelp!!!!

teafortwo YES that would be fab, it is understated but fun because it is shiny, we could look for alternatives unless you can afford to be that extravagant?

It can be fun, you don't have to buy, but it is good to consider the options.

I am off to look at shoes and bags .

  • tsm!!!

Aefondkiss ... oh yes I thought it is fab - I am getting good at this. I have this real urge to go out and buy Vogue now! BUT I have blown the budget on the dress - hence my keeness to use shoes I already have. Given the price tag that specific bag would be out - but can you see one a bit like it?!?

I am starting to wonder if given all of this wonderful fashion advice the papers are going to want to cover my visit to the UK for this wedding - Carla Bruni stylie!!!!

Obviously not including the nude shots or numerous pictures of me looking partied out with so many slightly to very unsuitable ex-boyfriends!

I think you should start a new thread for the bag and shoes, then you could have lots of stylish peeps giving you advice/ideas/inspiration. (the advice may be conflicting but it is usually helpful.)

Are you in France? Maybe we could find things nearer to you?

Bags and shoes from your part of the world would be so much more exclusive/chic non?

Good plan!

Well, for now, thanks for all your help!

I have found a dress and feel quite confident about attending a formal wedding!

Bravo mes amis!!!

I hope you don't mind me calling on you again? Now I have discovered you all I am sure I will want to ask your advice in the future too!

Oh tea for two - didn't realise you were an expat too! I live in Holland and its such hard work finidng clothes I like - hence all thw time I spend on this message board!!!

I'm back in the UK for a quick visit this weekend - without the kids - usually involves me running around the shops like a demented woman, muttering about there being too much choice and not enough time! In the summer I came back with 7 pairs of shorts for DS1 and no trousers!!! Just got carried away and forgot what I had already brought!!!

I'm after the perfect little black dress - not for any particular occassion - just want one in my wardrobe for an eventuality! Have also got a v long shopping list for ELC, Tescos, M&S and John Lewis!!! Its going to be a long day!

Olliewolliewoo - will you be the Holland fooc?

Thanks everyone on this thread - I bought the LK Bennett dress when I was in the UK. It was in the sale so I also bought a silk scarf to go with it and the two cost less than just the dress should have so I was very happy!

Here is the scarf...

Thank you very much for your time it meant a lot! xxx

teafortwo · 19/01/2009 21:12

Thanks blinks that is a cute bag and it is really sweet of you - but actually I have some simple shoes and a bag that I think will go.

My Mother in law gave me a beautiful but simple necklace that I think I shall wear too.

So I think the outfit is all sorted!!!!!

Thanks for saving my life (aka finding me an outfit) mn people!!! x x x x

I went through the same thing trying to find a dress for my sister's wedding last month. Looks like you have had a bit more luck than I did, but I finally found one I adore through
www.gatheringguide.com/ ec/bridalshopsdresses.html, if that should help you next time.
