So.... mners....What should I wear to my sister's wedding????

My sister is getting married in April - so I have loads of time to look for an outfit... but formal dressing REALLY scares me and I have found myself getting really very extremely nervous about... well... what to wear???

It is an afternoon city wedding with a sit down meal followed by dancing and general partying to a Brit Pop band after. My daughter is a bridesmaid for it. The bridesmaids are wearing chocolate brown and my Mum has bought a beautiful brightly coloured and quite highly patterned dress from East. It is browns, blues and pinks. Tasteful and jolly. It is very boho chic!

My outfit needs to not clash with my Mum. My sister is not keen on me wearing something completely plain as her adult bridesmaid is wearing a simple but stunning plain brown cocktail dress and she wants her to stand out in the photos.

Another very lovely mner suggested this (see below) which I think is lovely... and kindly added - that I should ask in 'style and beauty' too!

So I have taken her advice - Does anyone else have any good ideas???

Urrrmmmm... sheepishly calls mners please heeeeeelp!!!!

definitely look in LK Bennett. A mnetter suggested an LK dress for me for my sister's wedding and two of them were such a gorgeous fit, stylish without being too formal, that I would happily have bought either.

its pretty teafortwo but its 100% polyester - not sure you'll feel that fab in a polyester dress - sorry!

are you teafortwo of fooc fame?

Aefondkiss · 03/10/2008 21:51

patterned

Aefondkiss · 03/10/2008 21:52

I like that colour teafortwo, would go well with brown.

pointydog · 03/10/2008 21:53

depending on your figure, thismight look good and fit in with the others

traceybath · 03/10/2008 21:55

another lkbennett option

pointydog · 03/10/2008 21:56

What do you think of this too?

pointydog · 03/10/2008 22:04

I don't think it will look nice on. Looks bumfley round the hem. The fit will be crucial.

hatwoman · 03/10/2008 22:09

re heels - have you tried Clark's? I kid you not - they have some really nice shoes and they are incredibly comfy. I have a gorgeous pair of dark red open toe killer heels and have worn them to many a wedding without any wobbles or soreness - they're very soft leather and the style works well (will try to find a similar pic) and they have a tall but oblong rather than stiletoe heel - bit old now but I still love them

teafortwo · 03/10/2008 22:24

I was wondering pointydog - it was a test to see what you would all say!!!!

Sorry I was on the phone so not reading everything - give me a sec to look back at all your ideas!!!!

I really should have name changed!!!!!

I think you are seeing a completely different side of me than the one I show the foocs!!!!

So - This evening - I have eaten enough very dark chocolate, drunk enough red wine and seen enough beautiful dresses to feel a bit more zen regarding my sister's wedding and what to wear.

I have put LK Bennett, Peruvian and Coast into my favourites (I already know the monsoon address by heart). I will see if they deliver here or check them out next time I am in London village or my hometown!

I owe you all a big big thank you for taking the time to talk to me about dresses and weddings and a big apology to anyone who feels a bit let down by the weaker side of the foocs teafortwo!!!!

(teafortwo reassembles self and creeps back to do some reporting on the foocs thread!)

I just showed all your ideas to DH. His favourite was the LK Bennett one!!!! He loved the pink one until he saw the price tee hee!!!

I better e-mail that to my sister too!!!

OP posts:
traceybath · 04/10/2008 20:32

Once you're in LK Bennett you can then pick up some lovely shoes/bag.

LK has outlets at Bicester and Swindon which could be worth a look if you're close to them when you're back in the UK as very reduced price wise.

teafortwo · 04/10/2008 20:35

I wish my sister would hurry up and e-mail back - the suspense is kiiiiilllllin' me!!!

OP posts:
teafortwo · 04/10/2008 20:38

Just explained to DH the concept of an investment purchase! Ha ha ha - We are talking ourselves into me wearing that dress for the wedding!!!!
