Do you think that this dress would look nice on me?

I am tall, well 5,10', I am curvy size 16 (ie 38E) and I have shoulder length blond wavy hair.
I am going to a super-cool wedding and I have a very limited budget. So would I look like Bet Lynch in that dress?

No Aitch on ME, it might look a bit too trendy for my middle aged spread iyswim

Are we thinking Ditta Von Teese (sp?) for this wedding? Also, why are we?

PeaMcLean · 24/07/2008 22:45

this one for your shape?

Am thinking more 50s for you, you see.

Carmenere · 24/07/2008 22:46

Yes Harpo that was my worry about it, It looks, on close up, like it is made out of the same kind of polyester that they used to make slips out of in the 70'. I like the shape though.

Wasn't thinking DVT but I suppose that is the shape that suits me. can't do halternecks with my norks unfortunately.

this is the one i have

now, i'm only 5'5 so it's quite Dior New Look on me. and she is wearing far too much at the neck, cos the neckline is already quite footery in itself. i wore it with silver wedges (garden wedding, would have sunk in heels) and a silver chain with a grey pearl, plus grey pearl earrings and a grey pearl and uncultured cream pearl bracelet.

i was dead surprised actually when it came through, it's about ten times as good as it looks in the pic.

ExterminAitch · 24/07/2008 22:50

and, er, for one reason and another i have a fairly outsize tum at the moment... the shape of the dress actually flatters a bit of a tum, so long as it's tied round the thinnest part.

mind you, i'm a bit dvf fan as well, so if you find a good one, go for that too.

Carmenere · 24/07/2008 22:51

what size are you aitch, do you think that large would be anywhere near a 16?

OP posts:
maidamess · 24/07/2008 22:51

I think that would be too short on an Amazonian goddess of 5 ft 10 proportions.

hoxtonchick · 24/07/2008 22:52

you could borrow the DvF dress i bought from aitch!

robinpud · 24/07/2008 22:52

Go to Debenhams as they have different ones in stock from the ones on line. I got a John Rocha one on Sat similar to the last link in style but black and white polka dot which I have got red high heels and bag to accessorise with, all for under £100.

ExterminAitch · 24/07/2008 22:53

god, i know i'm really flogging that uttam dress but if you're worried about that fabric i can tell you that you will think it is a heavy silk.

PeaMcLean · 24/07/2008 22:53

I do like that Uttam frock...

ahundredtimes · 24/07/2008 22:54

I quite like it too. I really like it in the blue.

S1ur · 24/07/2008 22:56

I like Aitch's dress, I was tempteed myself, but am too ethereal

ExterminAitch · 24/07/2008 22:56

that was the only thing that worried me, tbh, as am a 16 (in dvf american a 12 or 14) but yes it was fine. it is a proper wrap dress, so adjustable. when the day dawned i wore a camisole underneath (gap have one in the 'zact colour as my green, one of their hidden support ones) but that was more so i wouldn't look down and see my tits all the time. i test drove it on a girls' night out before the wedding and was informed that they couldn't see what i was talking about.

maidamess · 24/07/2008 22:57

The Uttam one reminds me of what Minnie Mouse wears at Disneyland Paris, especially in the red.

I don't think its very classy. But I havent seen it in the flesh. So I'll shut up.

maidamess · 24/07/2008 22:58

The purple silk one on the Hobbs site is looovely.

ExterminAitch · 24/07/2008 22:58

when it comes, it's actually more green/blue than just blue. i'd also have it in the smokey grey if they had it in my size, tbh. it's quite coat dressy, in a way, those skinny models have the thing wound round their waist about 15 times. really excellent, i can assure you.

ahundredtimes · 24/07/2008 22:58

It could tick all the boxes Carm couldn't it.

it's like Cod's safe Phase 8 one, but with kick.

ahundredtimes · 24/07/2008 23:00

Now you see Maidamess, i just don't understand that purple one. I don't get it. But I did look briefly at the weirdy cream one to it's right. But too short for me sadly.

Actually i spend huge amounts of time looking at clothes that don't suit me and never would suit me.

ahundredtimes · 24/07/2008 23:00

Oh no, on the left.

ExterminAitch · 24/07/2008 23:00

maidamess, i do agree, i think the red one is by far the most obvious, iykwim?

ExterminAitch · 24/07/2008 23:02

the courtney dress, 100x? yes, that is deeply fab. you'd need good upper arms, tho. but it's very nice imo.

maidamess · 24/07/2008 23:02

well 100, thats fine. if we all like the same things wouldn't life be dull. I prefer bold solid colours. I'm brunette though so they suit me more maybe?
