Has brown become too dominant in style and beauty shops lately

Hi while I like brown its everywhere now. Blazers all brown in shops. I love burgundy but brown in everything. Do others like it.

I don't have any brown in my wardrobe, I can't stand it. So boring.

I am so old that I can remember the brown 90s phase. It will leave soon, I remember wearing variations of drab brown for months.

Also big in the 70s. I still hate it.
Bring back blue!

I am delighted for all the people with autumn and winter colour palettes, as it feels like we've had two years of beige, brown, black, white DOMINATING.
But as a light summer who would like some cool clothes that are a bit edgier and flatter my figure, I weep at every season. Everything I find in my colours is either very cutesy/frumpy (sorry, cant think of a better word) or made of horrendous fabric, or has no room for my boobs. There's some fabulous checked skirts and paisley prints in the shops but all shades that dont suit me! I continue to trawl Vinted like its the daily news....

I‘m so old I remember brown & orange being pretty much everywhere in the 70s.

I don’t think I’ll be buying anything in brown now as we know it’s always a short term colour trend and would end up being a waste of money.

Yes i remember this too.it was all swirly browns with a hint or orange !

Raiderofthelostbattenburg · Yesterday 16:03

I really like autumnal colours including brown, but this year it does feel like it might’ve gone too far! I’m wondering if I’m just feeling over it, because it’s come off the back of a bit of a brown and light blue summer trend too…

ProjectFailScary · Yesterday 16:05

No. I have greying brown hair and a pale complexion so it looks terrible on me. As a plus size, it seems to be everywhere and I hate it.

LagoLady · Yesterday 16:06

It’s horrid, and calling it “chocolate brown” or “espresso” doesn’t change that Hmm

Looking forward to seeing Christmas glitz and reds in November

Loved blues just feel brown overdone now in shops!

As a true summer palette I despair of all the sludge in the shops right now. I’m in the middle of updating my style and wardrobe and I chose the wrong time to do it. I would love to see beautiful colours for autumn and winter rather than everything dark and muddy looking.

RaraRachael · Yesterday 16:24

Yes it's everywhere and it's hideous. It reminds me of 70s fashion and I would never wear it having endured it as a child.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter which shops you use in whichever city there's no escaping it.

I'm much more of an autumn/winter dresser but won't be buying much this year.

HoldMyWine · Yesterday 16:26

Yes! I can’t stand brown clothes. So drab. Reminds me of the 70s.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · Yesterday 16:27

I don’t like it, it doesn’t suit me and it brings back the horror of throwing up at Brownies when I was 7.

Cherrycoko · Yesterday 16:32

I love it, because I have golden tan skin so it sets it off very well. I also love plum, burgundy, navy and slate green.

Nenya · Yesterday 16:45

Not a fan, though I will make an exception for a beautiful chocolate leather jacket or handbag, but I don't think that's what the OP means!

In fairness, though, if your neutrals palette tends more to black/white/grey, it's not difficult to find those even if brown feels dominant at the moment. I'm trying to be gracious and be pleased that people who like earthier neutrals have them readily available 😂wake me up when navy comes back!

HollyhockDays · Yesterday 17:05

Same. I hate brown and there’s so much of it in the shops atm. I don’t mind burgundy as much.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · Yesterday 17:08

Call it caramel, call it mocha, call it taupe, call it tan, call it khaki, call it whatever you like. It's still brown and some of us want none of it.

dottydoglover · Yesterday 17:10

The shops are also full of knitwear and not much in way of shirts or blouses either - M&S particularly disappointing !

LittleMonks11 · Yesterday 17:11

It’s awful! It was the colour of the summer too can you believe? A sea of brown and burgundy everywhere. I hate it!

prinkleman · Yesterday 17:12

I’m not a fan at all of the ubiquitous dark brown that’s everywhere and I hope it’s gone soon. I’ve always loved 70s patterns so something that’s brown and orange and swirly is fine if the style is right. But knitted brown top and knitted brown trousers together? Ridiculous!

LittleMonks11 · Yesterday 17:13

I have a very old (but pristine condition and lovely) French Connection moleskin military style slim fit coat in chocolate brown in the cupboard. Probably haven’t worn it for 20 years. Maybe I’ll see if I can get £££ for it on Vinted or eBay?!

Twinklewonderkins · Yesterday 17:21

I’m a true autumn and it suits me sooo well I’m happy!
Also loving the burgundy but if it doesn’t suit you it’s gonna be totally poo (brown)

Twatterati · Yesterday 17:25

Wow, I didn’t realise the strength of feeling towards brown! The thread’s been an eye-opener.

Brown is one of my best colours to wear so I like it, but don’t go all-in head-to-toe. IMO it looks good with denim, whites/creams, a bit of coral/orange, so it works BUT it sometimes feels a bit contrived, like I’m trying to deliberately look ‘autumnal’. And it looks weird as ‘smart’ clothes - black all the way for that.

[now eyeing clothes up, hoping I don’t look like a giant turd and thinking I do 😭]

The brown and orange!
