Has brown become too dominant in style and beauty shops lately

Hi while I like brown its everywhere now. Blazers all brown in shops. I love burgundy but brown in everything. Do others like it.

I also think brown can look good with lighter denim in summer.

I had my colours done and tan brown and chocolate brown were excellent colours. I do generally find them hard to wear though. As in they need to match correctly in warmth and depth, and not look like a sack.

It really suits me so I’m loving it and have lots of lovely looking clothes atm

  • that wonderful material..crimpelene As though the brown wasn't bad enough.

The brown 70’s was my childhood. It was everywhere including on the walls.
Proper George and Mildred wallpaper usually with some sort of orange involved. That’s definitely on its way back as well if you look at interior decor, fringed lamps the works.

Its everywhere isnt it! I find it hard to match up colours wise

But presumably you don’t have to buy anything this season?

Yes. It’s hideous and completely ubiquitous.

Calling it ‘bitter chocolate’ or whatever doesn’t change the fact that you’re wearing a sad looking brown cardigan.

😅

CherryKerry · Yesterday 14:44

It's everywhere but I probably just notice it more as its not a colour I've ever worn.

I was an 80's Brownie and probably still traumatised by the hideous brown dress with banana coloured accessories!

I don't like burgundy either as it's our corporate colour at work and I've spent 30 years being surrounded by it 🙈.

Hell, had forgotten about crimplene. DM bought crimplene dresses from M&S and I'm no style maven but they were hideous.

PipkinOfPepper · Yesterday 14:47

I love wearing brown and it suits my colouring far better than black, but even I am bewildered by quite how much of it there seems to be in the shops at the moment!

ChaToilLeam · Yesterday 14:51

I hate hate hate brown, it doesn't suit me at all! Remember being made to wear brown crimpelene flares in the 70s, with a hideous mustard jumper. Don't know what my mother was thinking. 🤮

Burgundy and dark green are lovely though.

Policeontheplane · Yesterday 14:51

Everything looks like sludge. I want some winter jewels coloured clothes which are suitable for summer and autumn not just sparkly party wear.

GingerBeverage · Yesterday 14:52

You mean the last year of brown winter, brown spring, brown summer and brown autumn are too much?!

Surely not, when there’s the simultaneous wonders of khaki and cream to liven it up 😂

Berlinlover · Yesterday 14:59

It just reminds me of poo, it’s just awful. Don’t get me started on brown nail polish.

I'm so old I remember the brown 70s.

Me, too.

Wall to wall brown, mustard, orange and a colour that my late mother used to refer to as "cow muck green" (probably now known as "duck shit green").

There was a lot of burgundy and purple around in the mid to late 60s, too, especially for shoes. Those low heeled, double strap Mary Janes that Twiggy used to wear seem to have made a come back this last few years.

I love brown and generally wear it as my main neutral (where someone else might wear black or navy). Love burgundy too so it’s all good for me.

We had a rather large sitting room with two alcoves that were papered in a pattern of most of those colours. Plus a brown leatherette sofa and a swirly red carpet. Hommage to Terence Conran it was not. However, that wallpaper was improvement on what it replaced which had, I kid you not, a pattern of house bricks.

Anyway, brown. No thanks.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · Yesterday 14:21

No. For a start I get 70s school uniform vibes. Second, who wants to walk around looking like a giant turd?

We definitely need the laughing emoji back MN 😂

TheChosenTwo · Yesterday 15:37

I’ve only just started getting into brown after resisting for a number of years. A very dark brown seems to suit me and looks nice with my tan skin colouring and dark features.
So I like it! Not head to toe, but one item at a time is fine. I also have some brown loafers for work which seem to go nicely with some of my trousers, olive green ones and navy cords, the brown goes nicer than black footwear, just a bit softer.

TheOGCCL · Yesterday 15:38

This is the era for me but it has been going on ages now! I think it is starting to turn actually. There's more grey and red about.

Oh yes I had that wallpaper too; brown, orange and a touch of mustard mixed up in a psychedelic print. I’m surprised I got any sleep at all.

RosaFelicia · Yesterday 15:40

Brown suited me when I had blonde hair years ago. Now I am grey it looks dreadful!

FieldofMusic · Yesterday 15:41

I love brown and it really suits me. There are so many different shades both warm and cool that there's one to suit everyone.

Saying everyone who wears brown looks like "a giant turd" is as ridiculous as it is untrue. Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean that it looks terrible on everyone.

DinoLil · Yesterday 15:41

Hehehe I bought a brown 'lounge suit' effort. Aka jogging bottoms and matching top. Soooooo comfy. Then I realised I look like my dog. Same colour. Not a good move!

Livpool · Yesterday 15:44

I hate brown - it’s miserable and reminds me of my school uniform. Poo brown is not flattering, except in a toilet bowl.

Floisme · Yesterday 15:45

If it’s still dominant in 15 years then I’ll take complaints. Until then, as far as I’m concerned, it’s payback for 2 decades of grey.

soupmaker · Yesterday 15:45

Do others like it.

No. I'm a jewel winter and am waiting for the winter colours to hit the shops.

Me too @RampantIvy Current offerings in stores remind me of the wallpaper, furniture and soft furnishings in my parents “good room” in the late 70s. All hideous on me.
