Good morning! Saw the link to this thread on the Royal Family board and thought I'd pop in!

As my user name suggests, I love all things purple but I don't really love Kate's dress! The colour is gorgeous but I think the original version, without so much fabric, would suit her better. And while it's nice that she tried something different with her hair, I don't think it really works either. So it's a rare Kate miss for me!

Yes, gorgeous colour but I just don't think the style suits Kate.

The whole look with the necklace, diaphanous sleeves and flowy fabric reminds me of an Yves Saint Laurent dress Margot Robbie wore to the Oscars some years ago. Same 70s vibe, but Margot did it better!

I'm going to disagree because I hate such a deep V at the front, it doesn't look good.

I think the necklace Kate wore kind of needed a deep V as it's so long. That, or have it pulled up. I'm sure the royal jewellers could manage that. As it was, it kind of 'competed' with the neckline of her dress.

It seems to have a very long "chain" which can be altered. I think it looked good on Camilla with the wide round neckline.

Kate doesn’t have a stylist at the moment does she, so she is probably sticking to what shapes she has worn before.

It’s been interesting seeing the overnight commentary on Kate’s ensemble - various fashion commentators on Instagram etc were raving about it, and I just didn’t feel the love. I was really interested to see it’s from 2016 though - do we think Kate has had it in her wardrobe since then, or Jenny Packham made her an altered version based on their archives? This is the kind of stuff I would love to know!

It did remind me of Rania’s gorgeous purple Andrew Gn evening gown - but Kate already has that in forest green. It’s clearly a look she loves though, as she also has an ice blue diaphanous Jenny Packham evening gown. (This idly made me look up the colours of the Oman flag, being the next state banquet and likely to be a covered-up style dress - red, white and green).

Morning all, I lost these threads for a few months and missed all the summer bling. Ah well.

I love the colour, am wearing a very similar shade today but in baby cord. The Yves Saint Lauren dress posted is gorgeous, but I just couldn't see Catherine in it. She is very modest in her work wear. She's a future queen not a star, and I think she is mindful of that in her choices. Or maybe that's just her preference, she could definitely pull off more daring clothes.

Not keen on the necklace unfortunately.

Looking forward to some lovely autumn style.

@Serenster I wondered if anyone would bring up the horrid dress she wore to the state banquet for Nigeria. I can't get excited about Oman, because as you say it'll almost certainly be another 'modest' dress. I think that on home soil she shouldn't be bound by someone else's religious dress code. It's not as if she generally chooses revealing outfits.

I think it's just a Kate thing. She finds a style she likes and sticks with it. A few years ago it was coat dresses and floral frocks, now it's suits for daytime and flowy gowns with diaphanous sleeves for evenings. I really do think she needs to find a replacement for Natasha Archer. If she can't glam it up a bit at film premieres, then when can she??

As for the Oman state banquet, "modest" doesn't have to mean dull - just look at Rania or Sheikha Moza of Qatar!

Her evening wear is usually a hit, she's had some fantastic, glamorous looks.

I find it interesting that the Euro royals attend things like that. Even if they have no constitutional power, it's good to be informed. I maybe very ignorant of other countries constitutions and their RF place in that.
It would be a good thing for the Wales' to be involved in. Or Harry if he hadn't flounced

As I understand it, they would only be allowed to attend by permission of the Foreign Office? Someone on one of these threads explained the Constitutional issues, but am happy to be corrected.
