Welcome back everyone to the new thread and hello to any newbies - join us now in time for the autumnal fun. 🍂💄🌂

As always when the Advent threads are running hot this thread is a little quieter but holiday releases, sets and edits are just around the corner. I'm super excited to be going to Sephoria London in October - I still can't believe I lucked out getting a ticket.

Some exciting homegrown news -after a few technical hiccups the FB group is now searchable (but private) MN Beauty Chat Swap/Trade/Sell.* *For those interested in the group we have a few joining rules you will be asked to abide by. Thank you @MrsBnow12 @CinderellaParker for your help.

Liberty has the Violette FR Bisou Balm in Chocolat in stock 🙌 Just used my BD credit to buy it. I’m excited about this one as I love my others.

So vinted claims this buyer can only use DPD and allowed her to buy something despite DPD can be turned off. She can use inpost and evri though. Tried cancelling and rebuying but still just DPD. So it seems Vinted will ignore your postal choices.

Yeah mine does that with evri. I have switched off it off as we have 2 lots of royal mail lockers and 2 lots of inpost lockers near us so I'd rather use them, but it keeps only giving evri which means I have to do a 40 min round journey 😐 it does give you the option to cancel but I don't get why it doesn't give them the option to buy using a different courier.

Bonkers, wasted so much time over it. She would have been happy with Evri. Mine is DPD I'm working whenever the post offices are open and I'm not making a special trip to queue at one on my weekend.

I’ve just had this as well, it’s so annoying. They have purchased a bundle of fragrances and it’s come up as DPD, which isn’t one I use. I didn’t want to cancel the sale with it being a few items so I accepted.
It’s really annoying though as I didn’t have time to make a special trip to do the DPD one over the weekend (they purchased early hours of Friday) and they have contacted me asking to delay the postage as they are going on holiday and “it may not arrive in time with Evri”…so Evri was clearly a suitable choice for us both but it went through as DPD.
Now I’ll have to wait a couple of weeks for the sale to complete/my money to come through.

user593 · Yesterday 20:22

I sold a bundle of fragrances earlier today too and it went through as DPD which I rarely ever get - I wonder if there’s something in that? Thankfully my local post office, which is short walk away, will send practically anything including DPD.

Edited

Yes DS mentioned the post office to me last night so I had planned to take it there today but then got the message from the buyer asking me to delay. It’s a little annoying that they didn’t mention any urgency for despatch when they first purchased, but they have good feedback so I’m not concerned (hopefully I won’t encounter any issues 😬)

I’ve been holding my breath on a few large (£100-£200) Vinted sales recently and they’ve all been fine. You do hear horror stories, but I like to think in the main people are good!

I find they loss lead by having one star product and then a load of products that are maybe not shifting, not saying this is the case with this edit as I've not looked at it but found that with some of the space nk ones. Also brands will want the publicity/awareness so maybe trade some of the RRP for that.

Disclaimer - I don't work in this field, just guessing.

It my be because the products have a huge mark up so even at £45 they are turning a profit

I used to work for a company that made lots of perfumes, high and low end. In our staff shop a bottle with an RRP of £100 (20 years ago) could be sold to us for £6-10 and the company would still make a profit on that

part of it is the illusion of luxury - if you think it’s a premium item, you pay the premium price. If it’s “too cheap” you don’t feel like is as much a luxury

This is reassuring 😊 I was having a bit of a wobble about putting some of the more expensive fragrances on there due to scammers, and of course courier issues. It makes me nervous when it’s larger amounts at stake.

I removed the Inpost option recently after reading about some people receiving the wrong parcels or where there was an item already in the locker when they have gone to post something, and because you don’t put a label on them to despatch I have lost trust. I’m hoping it’s a temporary issue because I found it really handy

You are absolutely right about the illusion of luxury and I can’t help falling for it. I also absolutely fall for price reductions, GWP, free product offers etc.

If the Murad resculpt serum was much cheaper I probably wouldn’t have tried it in the first place as I would have assumed it didn’t actually work. Yet by making it expensive and then regularly selling it at a discounted price and offering other products for free gifts etc. Murad have persuaded me to spend around £400 on their products in the last year.

The true cost is probably tiny. However given it has actually significantly improved my skin this year I can’t really complain.

Not to be a downer but 2 of my Harrods FAC perfume sales have gone AWOL. Not a huge amount of money, £50 in total and if they are fully lost it will be resolved eventually but it takes around a month to be recompensed.

I have a label machine so I can put my own labels on. I've heard about wrong labels being put on etc so I'd rather just do it myself 😃

A buyer told me DPD was the only option offered with fragrance. After 3 attempts where the lockers didn't have any labels in the printer, I cancelled. Relisted and someone else bought it with evri or inpost. I think they make the rules up as they go.

Hi is any of the Sephora own brand products make up and skin good any good? Thank you in advance

Thelifeofawife · Today 08:58

@OvaHere This is my worry. I have also had mixed experiences on Vinted as to whether I’ve gotten my money back or not.
I probably shouldn’t have gone ahead in the first place allowing a courier that I’d initially blocked out.

@Cyclingmummy1 I really do think they make it up as they go along. I find eBay so much easier on that front and this is the reason I had decided to sell anything more expensive on there, as you can specify Royal Mail with tracking. I have, however, ended up putting a bottle of PDM on Vinted because eBay pulled it querying whether it was fake - I sent proof of purchase but they still haven’t sorted it.

@JoRaRaRa I need to get a printer really. I did change the shop at which I do parcels, I trust they will get it right, but the lockers are an issue

Thelifeofawife · Today 09:02

On the Murad front, I’ve been using the eye cream for about 2 years (less so this year due to trying Tatcha & MZ) since it appeared in a JL BAC. I’ve also had the night cream which I found pretty good.
I checked my stash last night and I’ve got the one that’s in the CB edit (well it’s a cream, I think the edit may be a serum) - I think it came in a Debenhams edit, I seem to recall kicking myself that it was the only edit I didn’t buy multiples of 😅

I found a sample of the Dirty Milk version of Borntostandout this morning. This one smells on me like a weird combo of vanilla and milk.

I genuinely can’t make my mind up whether I like it or if it makes me feel a bit sick - it’s weird!

I'm reposting from the Advent Calendar thread - in case anyone is looking for skincare for men

LiB have the Men's grooming advent kit available now. It has quite a bit that I would use myself. Code GROOM10 takes 10% off, plus free delivery.

Last year I split it for Xmas gifts and donations to a local men's hostel. I nabbed the metal eye roller for myself and still use that.

@keepincool never mind men, I only want the Skincycles moisturiser I haven’t heard of until this morning. It might be a relatively new product. Pondering if to order, it works out at just under £85 with my old LiB subscription discount.
