Are reading glasses on a chain stylish or have I lost the plot?

Oh dear 😅

I now need reading glasses for anything involving reading or close up detail eg dicing an onion. It’s a PiTA because I’m always putting them down and then can’t remember where they are.

A friend of mine has started wearing hers on a chain (a very bold statement chain) and when I saw it I thought it looked very chic- when I was younger having glasses on a chain was really granny ish and I would never have even considered it, but somehow now I’m 50 I feel that leaning in to being older is absolutely fine and much more stylish than denial.

So I am thinking of getting a chain for my glasses. Have I lost the plot?

I think practical rather than stylish. Don’t hug people though, they’ll break and it hurts

I got a chain. I looked like my headmistress in 1986. I couldn't carry it off. Also it swung around, sat atop by boobs and kept clattering against everything.

They're stylish in a 'I don't give a fuck' way, which I love.

Wouldn’t work for me because I would always be fiddling with them when I wasn’t wearing them and they’d be all greasy and smeary when I actually needed them!

I thought it would be a faff to use but it really isn't.

I noticed some chains when browsing among the costume jewellery somewhere when we were away on holiday - I think maybe Accessorise? Though I couldn't swear to it. I noticed then because I at first thought it was an ankle bracelet and was thinking of buying it before I realise it was a glasses chain.

So yes I assume they are newly trendy, and I would like one. I look like some stereotype of a dominatrix/headmistress in my glasses as it is - may as well lean into that. I wouldn't be wearing them on a night out .....

I have taken up my DF method of having reading glasses scattered across the house. By the sofa, in the car, in my bag, by the bed, in the cutlery drawer. Cheap and available is working for me. A chain would be too much!

No dont do this! Its stretches the arms really quickly and then they can break or keep falling off etc. I speak from experience

Only shallow people care what is stylish. If glasses on a chain are useful to you then use them.

So what's the word for people who think it's shallow to care about style but who nevertheless go to the trouble of opening, reading and posting on a thread that's clearly about that very subject?
