Are reading glasses on a chain stylish or have I lost the plot?

Oh dear 😅

I now need reading glasses for anything involving reading or close up detail eg dicing an onion. It’s a PiTA because I’m always putting them down and then can’t remember where they are.

A friend of mine has started wearing hers on a chain (a very bold statement chain) and when I saw it I thought it looked very chic- when I was younger having glasses on a chain was really granny ish and I would never have even considered it, but somehow now I’m 50 I feel that leaning in to being older is absolutely fine and much more stylish than denial.

So I am thinking of getting a chain for my glasses. Have I lost the plot?

I love my varifocals! They're expensive but worth every penny - get the ones with the biggest vari bit possible (someone will explain it better!) and be prepared to be amazed! I'm going to the grave in mine, just in case there is an afterlife.

I got some chunky multi coloured plastic chains from Tiger Tiger and I think they look cool (inspired by Andi Oliver). I think a thin metal chain could look a bit frumpy.

I went for it and wear these in a bright colour.

I have been using them for over a year. It has changed my life. I work from home and would go downstairs for whatever reason, come back have to go back down became I had lefty glasses there and vice versa. Actually anger inducing.

Now I live in bliss and always have my glasses on.

I dress quite modern, coloured linen and cottons, so they suit my look.

I get compliments, but I guess not for everyone. It is a look I can carry though.

I think we can conclude they currently are stylish …

Not RTFT, but is anyone else old enough to remember Hinge and Bracket?

I use readers for low light or that fecking stupid pale grey or blue font , usually very small indeed, so beloved by some publishers - looking at you, Lonely Planet. Also the minute instructions on so many bottled goods.

Mostly I don't need them.

I have cheap readers all over my house but fizz with rage when squinting at a travel book. I'll have to re-think a chain for travelling. I'd rather go for broke and be loud about it.
I'm in my early 70s so am not concerned about the ageing effects that others perceive.
Now I think of it, I've never thought chains ageing, it's just practical, isn't it? I don't think people are aged when they walk with a stick, I think they've hurt their leg.
