Are reading glasses on a chain stylish or have I lost the plot?

Oh dear 😅

I now need reading glasses for anything involving reading or close up detail eg dicing an onion. It’s a PiTA because I’m always putting them down and then can’t remember where they are.

A friend of mine has started wearing hers on a chain (a very bold statement chain) and when I saw it I thought it looked very chic- when I was younger having glasses on a chain was really granny ish and I would never have even considered it, but somehow now I’m 50 I feel that leaning in to being older is absolutely fine and much more stylish than denial.

So I am thinking of getting a chain for my glasses. Have I lost the plot?

I wondered the same.I bought two in Tiger , a gold smooth chain and a funky Vinc chunky plastic chain. I've only used them a few times, found them a bit annoying, reverted back to glasses on my head. Not sure if they're embarrassing, youngest rolled her eyes when I bought them. Not sure I care though.

Wouldn’t be without the chain. I just have to be careful when working with children it doesn’t get tangled in their hair.

I don't wear them (yet) but want this brought it, please, start the trend! I'm just old enough to remember the pre Harry Potter days when some people were negative about glasses full stop, but now some people wear them even if they don't need to. So please, make everyone wearing a chain a thing. imagine how much time people will save, and money.

I love my varifocals, I can just see everything! They don't look any different from my normal glasses. I love my multifocal contact lenses even more though! (Did the monovision method until I got too long sighted)

If you are still only just needing reading glasses, my optician taught me the trick of pushing my glasses down my nose a bit to make it easier to read. Eventually your nose isn't long enough but it delays the expense a bit longer!

Chunky plastic ones in sort of tortoise shell are nice, they sell them for sunglasses 😎

Still not really sure how using a glasses chain makes a person look any older than they do actually wear the glasses. Very odd.

I wear mine on my head, so a chain would
be a sensible move. I get terribly confused between my reading glasses and sunglasses - find myself putting my reading glasses on outside and wonder why they aren’t helping. 😳

I think my approach is the oldest-seeming of all- lose my glasses, squint a lot and hold things at arm's length then ask my daughter to read it for me 😂 Glasses on a chain seems positively embryonic in comparison.

I do work with some young, generally fashioned focused women, who recently started wearing their colourful glasses on colourful chains so it seems to be stylish at least in some circles.

I’m sure she would have been flattered, and highly amused at being thought of as stylish in her later years as she wore her glasses on a chain.

op, no, it is not something stylish or the young aspire to, or trendy, it’s simply practical.

I got a chain and was allergic to it. I wear them on my head but they stretch and I’ve got expensive new glasses so I’m trying to remember to not wear them on my head. At home, I sometimes tuck them in my bra!

Things aren't stylish (or not), people are (or not).

I recently got some contact lenses for wearing occasionally and I need reading glasses with them; I have a complicated varifocal prescription and the lenses can't replicate my glasses. I would LOVE a pearl reading glasses chain ☺️

thats just your perception though, and what does it matter if it’s aging if it looks stylish? And is she really a friend… or a frenemy, to be thinking like that 🤔

I think they'd just bounce about on a chain and be in the way (I have quite a large bust though). I'm team top-of-head, I've always done it with sunglasses and never had the arms stretch, I just buy cheap reading glasses from the supermarket as I don't need them much yet.

I saw a few (young) people with sunglasses on chains on holiday this summer!

Well thats why you are not experiencing the stretch cos you are not wearing them a lot.

That's only the reading glasses, I routinely wear sunglasses on top of my head day in day out in summer (tend to keep the same ones for years) and never had them stretch. Once they are up there I tend to forget to bring them down and actually wear them I'm so used to them being there.

Well stretch is a real thing with glasses so thats unusual.

I have chains or straps mine are sparkly in fact someone asked where I got them from. Multi coloured straps etc. Don’t care if they are trendy but I am 70!

I think they have always been considered stylish for women over 50 and therefore less attractive to younger women, it is you that has changed rather than the fashion.

I couldn’t use a chain as it would get irritating, glasses flapping and dangling around the boobage. And yes, I’d probably lean forward and crush them on something. I get round losing/misplacing them by never taking them off. I have a small pair that are always half way down my nose, and I glance down through them when required and peer over them when not. At this stage, I’m basically Dr. Evadne Hinge.

I should just do it and get the varifocals! Reality is, they would be less noticeable than constantly taking my glasses on and off. It is completely a me problem thinking if my parents wearing them, when I considered them old (they may have been a similar age to me, now )
I dont need glasses at all, for close reading or close work. I barely wear glasses at all at work (hence taking them on and off!)
Then I probably wouldnt need to consider a chain (yet)
