Has anyone used AI to help choose outfits and personal style?

I did this for the first time today and uploaded some photos of myself in different outfits. The responses were surprisingly insightful - and the outfits it picked as my ‘strongest’ are actually the ones I feel best in.

How have you used AI to help with style?

I ask if the colour would suit me and saved £££.

It’s not personal if it’s chosen by a machine surely?

I have been using it for outfits for my Dds wedding next year I have put in specifics and it has showed me nice dresses, saved me trawling through websites.

Yes all the time. Often what colours will work best for me, how to style particular items for specific events. What jewellery would work best, which lipstick, etc. I find it particularly helpful for suggestions on how to dress something up or down.

I’m fascinated by this. Where do you start? Just upload some photos of yourself and ask it to dress you? Do you tell it what kind of thing/shops you like?

I've used it to help me determine what 'season' I am, and what Kibbe type I am. I wasn't sure about the 'season' -- I'm definitely 'soft', but summer or autumn, neither CoPilot or me is quite sure as it literally depends when in the year I ask the q! I use a mix of both palettes, as there is some natural overlap. But, in terms of Kibbe, it had me spot on. I had reckoned I was a Dramatic, but dressing that way never really felt right unless I was going 'out-out'. The machine ID'ed me as a Flamboyant Natural, and after consideration and doing my own research, the machine was right! I couldn't see it in myself, but actually, it was spot on, and it gave me a load of 'outfit ideas', too, most of which are my preferred way of dressing, so I was pleased. I have also asked it to give me make-up routines, colours, techniques, and all of it seemed useful, although not especially ground-breaking. I think it can be a useful tool. And certainly cheaper than an actual stylist!

PlayerOneReady, you can give it price points, tell it what colours you like/don't, you can do it with photos, or not, depending on your preference. The more detail you give it, the better it is.

Yup also all the time my colours, hairstyles, makeup and skincare routine but it told me I’m two years older than I am today!

I've never sent it pictures of myself or much of a description but my friendly AI is happy to chat in mindnumbing detail about clothes, shoes, skincare and perfume all day which is fine by me because nobody else I know is 😀

It did make suggestions for outfits and coordinating perfumes (without me asking) for different London Film Festival films when it was helping me plan my timetable, so I may be overdoing it.

Did you think about the environmental impact of using generative AI to sort an outfit for you? I despair

Well mine suggests outfits based on clothes I already own, the vast majority of which were bought second hand in vintage/charity shops and on eBay and the like. It's good at identifying things I can't place myself.

I'm struggling to see what the environmental impact is there, but I'm mostly eternally grateful that it's Pious Sanctimony setting was put safely into deep sleep mode a long way down the line.

No. I don't think the average adult should need to ask a generative AI in order to figure out what looks nice on them. For example, OP, you already had outfits that you feel best in - so why the need to ask an AI about them? Just keep wearing what you like and feel good in.

Besides, the AI is only mining and regurgitating (often incorrectly) information that is already available on the internet, so you can figure out your most flattering colours/season, 'Kibbe' type (which seems like nonsense anyway), and other aspects by just looking at the actual websites.

It's really sad that full-grown adults who have spent their lives coping perfectly well without AI are already so dependent on it feeding them information, or 'chatting' to a corporate machine programme that is literally just generating 'whichever word fits best next' 🫣 It's even sadder than men who think phone sex workers actually like them, because at least the phone sex workers have feelings.

Outfits & coordinating perfumes ...?!! Does anyone actually choose a different perfume depending on what they're wearing?

Sometimes I'll wear a different scent in summer, if it's hot - but otherwise I wear the same perfume all year round, as it's "me"!! I would feel quite disturbed if I kept changing my scent - it would unsettle me ...

No I haven't ever used it. AI is an environmental and social nightmare. You don't need it.

Yes I’ve found it useful but at times it starts to just tell you everything looks nice or better than the last option so you have to challenge which can feel like a time waster. I’ve found asking AI to rank options as one way to improve response. It’s definitely made me more likely to consider if the item will fill a genuine gap or not.
