How can I discreetly manage facial hair while wild camping?

Unfortunately for me, as a woman, I seem to have plenty of neck, chic and upper lip hair. I don't know if it is because of hormones, the pill, etc. I used to pluck but switched to shaving years ago. I'm going wild camping with a very new bf at the weekend. How can I discreetly shave by a Loch!? I don't think a hairly face is an option, we're spending 24 hours together, within 24 hours it will be 1mm of stubble. 🙁

so is he going to be shaving?

Ophy83 · 02/09/2026 09:13

Philips facial hair remover 5000. Costs approx £23, available from Amazon, John Lewis etc. Has a built in mirror.

Askandyforcompo · 02/09/2026 09:31

A little light up travel mirror has changed my life in this respect. I have the same as you and have had it since puberty. I went to the doctor's so many times and just got brushed off. Only now at age 60 have I discovered that I had a high testosterone level all my life.

Hats off to you for the wild camping. That's my idea of hell but you are game!

Contain4 · 02/09/2026 09:41

I would wax it and then take a small handheld mirror and razor for anything that still comes up.

You can literally take it to the bathroom with you and he won’t know.

Waxing can leave a red mark, so if you don’t want him to know perhaps get it done a couple days in advance.

Are you planning on shaving your legs etc?

Where will you go for a poo?

Thatuglywasp · 02/09/2026 09:47

I just can't get over the whole... 'want to look my best for a new partner, I know, let's go wild camping!' Where is the logic.

MidnightMeltdown · 02/09/2026 09:53

You’re going to be al fresco pooing with your new boyfriend and you’re worried about chin hairs?!

Book a hotel with facilities instead!

Disturbia81 · 02/09/2026 09:56

Just take a few wax strips

BillieWiper · 02/09/2026 10:07

I'd just go somewhere private and say I was going for a shave. You don't have to specify which bits of you. You could do it under a towel with a torch and a compact mirror? 😂

So an epilator claims it removes hair for a month, is that true?

Not chin hairs. They are a law on to themselves.

purplecorkheart · 02/09/2026 11:53

Can you get one of those little battery operated pencil size razor things. I assume that you will be walking away from him to pee etc so you could use it then. They are not very noisy.

ScotiaLass · 02/09/2026 12:41

You're getting lots of replies from people who have obviously never been wild camping OP, but I get where you are coming from with the logistical issues of going to the toilet let alone doing any form of self care while you are there! I've never used an epilator, but I wonder if that would work on really short hair? Would it be an option to let the hair grow out before you go and either use an epilator or get it waxed? If you remove it at the root you should get much longer before the stubble starts to reappear. Alternatively Loch Lomond and the National Park has some great campsites that are fairly wild but still have basic facilities and you might be more comfortable there? I'm at an age and stage where camping without a toilet is just not an option any more!

Crucible · 02/09/2026 12:59

They don't look like a razor, they work on minor hairs. You just need a hand mirror.

MrsMcGarry · 02/09/2026 13:02

Epilators will not work on stubble - you need some growth for them to grab.

I would find some time beforehand when you can have a few days growth, and go to a threader (often found in Indian beauty salons or as standalone chairs in shopping centres) to get the hairs removed at the root. It'll hurt like hell, but it'll keep you fuzz free for a few days at least

BrightSloth · 02/09/2026 13:40

Hi, as a former pcos sufferer I tried it all but the one thing that really works and minimises regrowth is hair removal cream, leave it on for 5 minutes and then use a soft is flannel to wash it off and spend a good while in the shower cleaning your pores and you won’t have hair on your face for a week at least and the regrowth is tiny hairs, I used to use one of those facial razors and oh boy I was getting stubble so I’m really happy now that I’ve found a way to completely rid it and avoid stubble, so my advice would be to do a hair removal cream session the day before you go, take your razor in case but I really don’t think you’ll need it 🙏🏻

Arthbleu · 02/09/2026 13:49

For 24 hours a small mirror and tweezers should suffice.

Eyelashesoffire · 01/09/2026 22:34

Well it was definitely true for me and it's been said to me in person by beauticians and on here.

I wish I had listened when posters here told me as it's been a lot of effort to get rid of it.

The Lumea was amazing for body hair but it made my facial hair a lot worse.

Just saying this was also the case for me. Lumea worked great on the rest of my body but yeah, if anything my facial hair got noticeably worse.

TheVelvetCell · 02/09/2026 14:09

TheAquaTraybake · 01/09/2026 22:09

I second the Lumea (or similar device) they've been a gamechanger. I have ideal colouring as well (pale skin, dark hair) but then that's also what made the hair so horrible to have on my face. I'm virtually free of it now aside from the odd plucking. It genuinely changed my life as someone who had quick thick hair.

Failing this, well, you could probably manage a quick swipe with a razor during a loo trip.

Lumea didn't work at all for me on my face, but electrolysis changed my life. Admittedly not useful for OP's camping trip with the timeframe.

I am always curious about Lumea (sorry to highjack the thread OP). Does hair have to be dark when you zap with Lumea? I bleach mine, so would it work?!

daisyydaisyy · 02/09/2026 14:26

I’d just quick dry shave with a razor! I’ve been doing that discreetly for years and years!

bananaboats · 02/09/2026 14:31

Why cant you just wax night before you go surely thats the obvious answer?

QuestionableMouse · 02/09/2026 14:31

lizzyBennet08 · 02/09/2026 08:10

The little veet facial strips before you go will sort it for longer than a few days

God I wish.

They didn't do a single thing for my facial hair, just made my skin sore!

C152 · 02/09/2026 15:14

Men are much less fussy than women imagine. If you want to remove the hair for yourself, fine; but don't bother if it's because you're worried about what he will say/do.

MurphysColeslaw · 02/09/2026 16:00

@JasmineTea11 Your hair has to be dark unfortunately.
And while I understand people recommending the Lumea that might be ok going forward as a long term project but the Op is going away at the weekend!
And I too am with other posters saying ‘wild camping! Wtf are thinking woman!
Have fun though

Get one of those little shavers specifically for chin hair. You know the ones. They look like a lipstick case. And a small mirror. Then find an excuse to sneak off somewhere for five minutes. But if you pluck them out they shouldnt grow back enough to be seen for at least 36 hours.
