New thread and it's welcome to the roaring twenties beauty addicts!

It's been a little quiet on the exciting edit and beauty releases front what with all the advent malarky but summer is drawing to a close and soon those autumn/winter releases and holiday edits will be popping up to tempt us.

If you're new here welcome and hello and for everyone else nice to see you back on Mumsnet's most tempting thread series that you cannot ignore even if you want to. 😈😍😂

@OvaHereThanks for this. I've really wanted to try the summer Fridays mask when I’ve seen it in the past, so will pick one up and give it a try. Yes, the AB lash serum has done nothing for me, but then uklash does nothing for me either. I’ve had great results with one that came in a LF edit or advent calendar (gold and pink box), so much so friends and family asked if I’d had extensions! (For context I naturally have very short eyelashes).

I understand it’s good to change things up so might treat myself to the beauty pie one next! Are their products generally good? I’ve only tried the one that came in the Liberty BD, and i liked it.

It's the SF Jet lag serum I like not the mask (mask is fine but that's a cream)

This is the Beauty Pie lash serum. The XL one. It's a lot cheaper than £40 if you're a member.

There's a few BP products I really like. Shampoo, Conditioner and body washes are decent. I like the Youth Bomb serum (in Elle advent) and the overnight caviar mask. The candles are great value and quite often on sale too. They have some decent cleansers and creams. I've not tried much make up - I find that a bit boring.

Not sure I use the membership enough but as above there are some things that keep me justifying it. I think it renews in about November so I should seriously think about cancelling. They always dangle a free renewal gift though. 😄

Is the lash serum in a pink box called Glow something? If so I have one I haven't tried yet.

Re floral street fragrances. I read their vanilla one is practically identical Poets of Berlin (Villhelm Parfumerie) same perfume creator, but much cheaper. I haven’t smelled either but if you’re a vanilla / POB / VP fan, might be worth a try.

My CB Advent arrived today. I’ve been having second thoughts about it since I ordered it. I need to have a really close look at the contents list as I don’t think I actually want that much of it! Got swept up in the 20% off and gift voucher.

Thanks for the intel and links! I’d never really looked at BP until recently.

and apologies, you clearly wrote jet lag serum, my little reptile brain just went to the nearest shiny thing I’d wanted previously 😂

I’ve attached a pic of the lash serum, it’s called Grande Lash MD.

On the topic of lash serums, I’ve always really rated the Shiseido one (for brows too) but it is expensive.

IlovePond · 05/09/2026 10:20

@user593 I really like Floral Street’s Arizona Bloom and ‘don’t mind’ the others.

I seem to have acquired quite a few scents from the rest of the range via various edits and I just use them up whenever.

The exception is Sunflowers, which I really don’t like, (although it’s a pretty bottle!)

Did you get the Special version with the scents? That will sell out first if last year is anything to go by. You could just then put the whole advent on eBay.

Obviously you could return to CB but as with a lot of their customer service their returns and refunds can be a hit and miss process.

A question for those who like medik8 hydr8 intense: if you ran out, what would you replace it with? I have a FS medik8 liquid peptides, would you say that does the same sort of thing?

I really love the hydr8 and I might just repurchase, especially as I assume there will be some on Vinted from the Glossybox BAC. But if the liquid peptides is similar I'll try switching to that instead.

I'm a little hesitant because I've had samples of the advanced peptides and hated it (although I can't remember exactly why). And I have loads of general hyaluronic acid type serums, but none of them have been as good as the hydr8 intense - it really seems to do 'more' so that's what I need to replicate.

IlovePond · 05/09/2026 10:49

For those debating returning the CB a/c - given CB’s appalling CS, I agree with @OvaHere - I am not sure I would risk it myself.

The perfume version sold out very quickly last year and it should - in theory - be possible to sell it. Of course, you then run the risk of encountering a scam buyer so 🤷‍♀️ but if you pick someone with good f/b that reduces the risk.

Is anyone interested in the Boots x Floral Street set? I’m not familiar with their fragrances but it looks like a nice set.

I know they are popular, but I find Method cleaning products smell nicer. My skin chemistry is not their friend.

Yes, it’s the Special Edition. I’d have to make sure I had proof of postage to do a chargeback if they mess me around. Personally I’ve never had any issues with their CS but I wouldn’t be surprised if I did. Selling things this expensive on eBay/ Vinted makes me nervous so I’d have to break it down.

I’m going to go through the product list carefully over the weekend. Some things definitely interest me but then I already have so much! I’m very happy with the HFAC as I don’t have that many fragrances, but the CB was an impulse purchase. I shouldn’t buy expensive things on a whim.

The Medik8 Liquid Peptides is marketed as hydrating and also has a hyaluronic acid base so if you own that one I would open and try it. In the meantime if you can get a Vinted bargain on the Hydr8 Intense then get one in case you don't like the Liquid Peptides or to use after.

Disclaimer - I haven't tried either. I didn't like the basic Hydr8 so never tried the intense version. I do have a Liquid Peptides but haven't used it yet.

I know this doesn’t answer your question but I’m also keen to see replies. I brought medik8 intense and AB serum on holiday with me. I thought I would stick with the AB as I love it but my skin became quite dry with the air conditioning so I switched to the Medik8 intense and it’s a wonder product. I really can’t believe just how good it is when my skin is a drier. I’m wondering if there is a similar wonder product.

CB CS now insisting the £20 was sent to me and to check my spam folder again. Getting real tired of this - they just make it up as they go along. I've said I want to formally dispute it and have it raised to a manager unless they can provide proof of it being sent to me, which of course they won't.

I do have £15 accout credit which i'm presuming is from the actual purchase of the AC although as that was £190 I'm not sure where £15 comes from. and I'd used up exisitng credit when I bought it. It's only £5 off what I was expecting to get from the voucher so not sure if I should just leave it, then again if they should have sent me £20...

namechange0998776554799000 · 05/09/2026 14:39

Yes I agree on the hydr8 @Beautyfox!

@OvaHere, don't let disliking hydr8 put you off the intense if you ever end up with a bottle. I had hydr8 first and didn't hate but felt it was very meh. The intense is so much better!

I really rate the medik8, advanced and the one that was in the recent CB edit. I’ve not really noticed much of a difference between the two.

The one in the CB edit is the liquid peptides - that's where I got mine from. If it's similar to hydr8 intense I'll definitely give it a go then

I’ve had the one in the black bottle (think that’s the advanced one?), started the CB edit one 2 weeks ago, the black is possibly a bit more hydrating. I’d buy both again.

namechange0998776554799000 · 05/09/2026 16:22

My other option for a replacement is the Sunday Riley tidal serum - surely if CB have put it in day 25 it must be good? I've just bought a trial size on Vinted so I can pick up a full size if I like it.

Has anyone tried it?

No but I'm expecting it to be like the SF Jet Lag Serum I like which is nearly empty. Hopefully I'll like it.

A Vinted seller put a 5ml sample of Sunday Riley tidal serum in an order and I loved it, it sent me down a hyaluronic acid rabbit hole and I ended up ordering two of the Face the future edits that had the MZ Skin Bio-placenta hyaluronic acid serum. I think I prefer the Sunday Riley tidal serum.

The Medik8 website has very clear explanations of what each product contains and what each ingredient does. It's hard to say what will work for someone else, but as @OvaHere says both have hyaluronic acids. The Medik8 hydraB5 intense also has vitamin B5 though. Who knows if that's what your skin is liking?

https://www.cultbeauty.com/p/the-ordinary-hyaluronic-acid-2-and-b5-30ml/15061691/? has similar ingredients.
